Just stunning. The four last songs are incredible, but this final song, this one gets me every time. The sunset as a metaphor for death- Beautiful, reflective, peaceful, and melancholy- Strauss so masterfully set this to music.
this song of Rihard Strauss is my favourite of all, I could listen to this all day and all night and not be tired, the soprano singing it is very good. Thank you for sharing it on UA-cam! We are all now living through this coronavirus pandemic, none of us knows how long we have left but this music is what keeps me alive and why I get up in the morning. Like you, my channel is for non-commercial use, but for enjoyment of anyone who loves deeply music which penetrates the soul and the heart of everyone, this song is one like that. Thanks Thomas Ligre.
Kathleen Ferrier was arguably the greatest contralto who ever walked the planet. These songs were written for the soprano voice, so I would be very eager to hear what she would have done with these. Can you point me anywhere?
These brilliant songs were written when Strauss was in his eighties. That's almost as much of a miracle as the early masterpieces of Mozart.

Línea melodica: auténtico Strauss, armonía: auténtico Strauss, contrapunto: auténtico Strauss. Absolutamente divino e inconfundible. R.Strauss grande!!!

A delightful reading.
I love Annie’s voice and emotion in this emotional ARIA. To say, I knew Annie a while ago is true, and she has a pure voice and heart.

First heard this in 1990 opening credits to "Wild at heart"
Gretchen am Spinnrade : 1814.
Im Abendrot : 1948.
I sing these,. it's very difficult...but the last words. ..and now is this death were sung by Kathleen Ferier soooo beautifully

Even more a miracle. I doubt if Mozart could have written much more of any interest past his 40s...
thankyou very much , just wondered was there an orchestra and date..
brava!
Hi! Do you have this shit for piano and soprano in pdf? It would be nice and very helpful !
I have this sheet for piano and voice
Obsession of 6/4 chords
Anthony Mondon that’s strauss for ya
I think at some point Mozart would have sounded a bit like Beethoven sounds.
