Any 80's baby can relate to the popularity of this record. I was four years old when this song hit the charts, and this song was simply the peak of Bobby Browns career. One of his best.
I miss those days, I was in 6th grade when this came out in 89" I remember me and my friends being so excited about seeing the movie, sigh the days of innocence and pure world, Where the kids could go to the store by themselves and play outside until night time comes. :)
As much as I love my life and would never trade it for anything... listening to this and seeing Ghostbusters make me want to be a kid again. Growing up in the late 80s and early 90s were just so innocent and pure. Music was great, movies were great, and we weren't attached to cell phones or iPods.
this song reminds me a bit of my uncle, who lived in the US for over 28 years more so than where he was born, england. But he died from cancer on thursday, and now im thinkin, everytime i see a video anything to do with america, i think of my uncle. And im torn between being upset, but then being happy that he lived his dream, his big dream was to go to America, and he did that and im so proud of him, he was only 50 but how can i complain, he was a winner. RIP uncle. love ya
This song came out when I was in seventh grade. I remember how huge Bobby was at the time and how big "Don't be Cruel" was, even though this single wasn't from that album. Just class stuff here and sounds better than anything coming out today by far.
Unforgettable!!! That tune and the atmosphere ( I was 6 when the movie went out, though it stayed in the mind throught the early 90s. Very nice, very uplifting!!
I was about the same age when this came out..I'm happy to say I got to live in New York around the time this movie came out....other great movies that brinf you back to your childhood...Ninja Turtles 1, Batman 1...good times.
This song is one of the best movie songs that i know, i watched Ghostbusters from telly yesterday, got 2 say that it still is a freakin good movie even though i have seen it too many times
My ffavorite Bobby Brown song! yes! 1989 i was only 11 hearing this song dominate the radio stations great hip-hop R&B feel to beat pop and all. good times!! " took hot to handle to cold to hold!!" haha!
heard this song for the 1st time today on the VH1 Soul channel & instantly fell in love with it...i would gladly listen to the music from the 80's/ 90's instead of some of this "music" getting played on the radio today.
I remember hearing this on the top 40 station 101.5 kplz in seattle back in the late 80's. I lived in Victoria. Pure nostalgia. Why is it always the sunny days one remembers...
Songs do not get much better than this. I heard this song at the Hartford fair five years back. But i have heard this song before that. I don't have enough fingers and toes to count how many memories this brings back. * sniff * ; )
loved this song and film! I was 13 at the time. Remember seeing the first Ghostbusters at the cinema I always laugh thinkng back.. I was lent forward in the higher balconey watching it when the sene with library ghost screamed ...I nearly fell of my seat lol
Bobbys most underrated song. This is the jam!!!!!!!!!! I know he messed up his and Whitneys life but you gotta admit Bobby was the man back in the day with his music and all.

hit after hit Bobby was on top of the music world. Right before he made this song and video he had another little song and video that had came out called "Every Little Step" that was already at the top of the charts. A few weeks later "On Our Own was released and hit #1 on the pop and R&B charts too. I think Bobby was trying to say, "i'am the king of all music right now."
this was the best time in history I was like 7 back than living in nyc Bronx baby where crime was I cant even say with words man its so good to go back and hear songs like this
man even though his personal was/is a mess ... this man OWNED NEW JAC K SWING .... at bobby's peak, he was arguably the number-one r&b act out there. he just made hit after hit after hit. this is one of his many classics
Damn, this takes me back to Summer '89. It was a big year for Hollywood films - especially Tim Burton's Batman. But I was just as excited for Ghostbusters II. As much as I love the Ray Parker Jr. theme to Ghostbusters. Bobby's On Our Own set the tone for GB2. I had picked up both the GB2 and Prince's Batman album that year. I must've worn those cassettes out because that's all I played in the Summer of '89 XD !!!
wow, I 'member as a 12 yr old, I went and watch this movie with my folks, older brother and younger brother. I so wanted to be like bobby. plus he had a cameo in ghostbusters 2

Man, he killed it with this jam... still stands the test of time!
RIP classic hip hop. We miss you! Modern DAY rap and hip hop can never replace the songs from the 80s and the 90s.
I think what makes it ten times better is that I understand all the lyrics of the rap, it goes with the song and the theme of the video
too awesome!! miss the 80s for certain
