Hi Tim: Following your story and watching this documentary, I feel like I’m you. You see I also broke my C2 vertebrae in a cycling race last August. I was also 39 years old at the time. Unlike you however I opted to have 40mm screw put into my neck. I would love to come to Boulder to meet you. I will send you a message via Facebook. Thank you for sharing your story. Good luck in the training and I’ll be cheering for you at Kona 2018 👍😀
What a great and inspirational story. I am recovering from a C-1 fracture. I'm out of the halo now and I'm in the process of weaning myself off a hard cervical collar. I had been training for my first marathon when I broke my neck. I've set my sights on finishing my first marathon next year. I've been riding the Peloton and doing PT on my lower legs. The doctor says running is still a few months away, but I'll get there. Seeing Tim's grit and determination to bring himself back from his traumatic injury was an emotional and motivating experience for me. Thank you Tim for sharing this window into your journey back to Kona.
Wish you all the best. I had the same problem in 2017, but broke C1 and operation was needed because it was an unstable fracture Gehweiler Typ III. Halo was no option in that case. Now I nearly quite good recovered and can do the most sport I did before. Life is sometimes not easy.
The "halo guy" is actually an Orthotist/Prosthetist. Those in that profession also fabricate prosthetic limbs and custom braces etc.. It's a small field but takes a lot of grad school certs/licensure to get to that point! Great work Tim!!
hey tim truly inspirational story i'm currently going through a simaler thing i'm 15 and broke c1 and c2 of my spine and fractured c3,4,5 and t1 in a mountain bike crash and got the halo off three weeks ago just hoping i can return to doing the things i love like you did
rory baker hey mate, broke my c7 vertebrae and had to wear a stiff neck 3 months until now. would love to share some thoughts with someone who had a similar accident. greetings
Peter Luftensteiner hello! I had my halo off about 7 weeks ago now and was in a hard collar for two weeks and now home free! As lateral movement is between c1 and 2, my left movement is restricted a bit but it’s a consistent improvement, I’m back to an almost normal life now. It’s been a very frustrating summer, but I’m ready to move on with my life. How’s it going for you?
rory baker nice to hear you‘re doing good! summer was also rough for me but in my case they had to do a surgery where 3 vertebraes are connected by screws and some metal. in two days i will be allowed to move my head again which is pretty hard atm, but they said i will get back almost 100% of my mobility 🙌🏻 guess we just have to be glad to not be paralyzed after all. i only had the stiff neck but no halo, can‘t imagine the torture from it 😧
Hey Tim, I was in a motorbike accident and to say it was a close shave is an understatement! Broke T12 and whilst I wasn't in a Halo I was in a brace for 5 months (24/7). After the healing process I completed my first 70.3 Ironman. By God's grace... So I have an in cling of what you've gone through! Keep it up!
You are an example of self-improvement and will. The Brazilian triathlon cheers for you. We have no doubt that you will be in Kona / 2018. Congratulations !!!!
By disliking Lance Armstrong either. (I didn't dislike it though, cause the story from accident to being back into top-athletic Performance IS impressive. No question about it.)
I just recovered from my C6 and C7 fracture after snowboarding in this winter 2018. Had HALO for 2 weeks, didn't work, had to do surgery. Even Halo for two weeks was nightmare and hell, especially trying to sleep. Good job man, I feel your pain, proud of you! Never give up, and never surrender!
I was counting down the days to see this. I suffered a lower back injury 9 days before Ironman Puerto Rico in March and I couldnt race. Tims story has been near my heart since his accident. His story is so inspiring, it was worth waiting for this. What an amazing human being, so humble and positive. Tim is definitely one of my all time favorite triathletes. Amazing documentary. Thank you Tim, for inspiring people all around the world and for reminding everybody that no matter what you go through in life, a positive attitude and hard work will give you wings to overcome ANY obstacle life throws your way. God bless you always and crush Kona!!!
I've been competing in triathlon for 24 years it's people like Tim that inspire me,you are a machine.Attitude goes a long way he never boubted himself.Awesome story.
Brought me to tears. Simply heart warming to see all the support around you and your way of dealing with it and not taking the easy way of quitting. You gonna make your way to Kona. If anyone is passionate enough to do it this year, then it's YOU. Thx for letting us take part of your way back "Home". I'm totally stunned.
Incredible Story. I hear from the accident last year- than I read that he finished already the Boston Marathon some weeks ago. I wish him all the best for this year. Very good and inspirational video. Greets from Spain
Wow, an amazing story! I had a cycle accident in 2009 and had a head injury and 11 broken bones in total including two vertebrae in my neck and 3 in my back. Sadly, those 5 are still broken and give me constant pain and the maximum I can do on my bike now is 2 hours before the pain is too bad. Your story is inspirational to me and quite rightly to others. It bought back many memories but thank you for telling it and sharing your journey. Truly amazing to achieve what you have done and I wish you all the best to achieve what ever you want to because I believe you will. Thanks Tim for the inspiration.
Just amazing! Truly inspiring, Tim! Could not imagine being in your shoes and having SUCH a positive attitude. You are definitely a fighter and a lion. Go kick some ass in Kona!!

I commend on Andrew Hinton for telling us so lucidly yet another inspiring story on digital platform. Would love Andrew to continue telling this story, at least till Kona. Best wishes Tim!
Cant wait to watch you in Kona Tim, regardless if you win it, you are still a winner to many of us fans and supporters. Congratulations for getting back to where you are today, true inspiration.
Tim Don has always been a legend but now I have a whole new level of admiration for him, what an inspirational attitude. We can all take a leaf out of Tim’s book whenever we experience one of life’s unexpected but inevitable setbacks.
Truely inspirational and amazing. I don't think any of us can understand what he went through after the accident and halo can't wait to see you back in ironman being the best and taking on Kona.
Thanks so much for sharing. Was a Tim Don fan before his injury and I am even more of one now. When I started my Ironman journey 5 years ago I watched his videos on UA-cam and loved his laid back approach and champion mindset. Thanks for the continued motivation and inspiration Tim. This will help and inspire everyone who watches it, whether they are a triathlete or not. Fuel for the world.
Hard work, dedication and strong will power,a person with these three qualities ,sky is the limit for him... Great story, will definitely make all those people belittled who have a habit of giving excuses rather than focusing on cause and effect
Even before I knew about this story, I knew there was something special about Tim Don from other videos I'd seen on youtube that did not necessarily feature Tim. Thank you for this inspirational and uplifting video.
Thank you Tim for your courage and showing us your heart. Can't wait to see you line up in Kona. Also congrats to the crew, Franko and all involved in this beautiful film. Cheers.
I first watched this video around two years ago and that's when I've first heard of On Running. It not only made me emotional (sorry I'm not a native English speaker) about Tim's journey to get back to shape - I've faced more than a year of physiotherapy before - as also introduced me to On. Many thanks. I love my cloudflow by the way... And I have a profound feeling about it as my mom who gave it is now in a vegetative state. Keep running... cheers
Hi Afranio, Thanks so much for your support! Our team loves to hear stories like yours and we are happy to hear that our shoes have been a good fit for you. Hopefully you'll continue to enjoy running on clouds and we wish you and your family all the best!
