    As a beer gadget nerd I love the idea of this series, keep 'em coming!
    Please also do "6 months later" follow-up videos on these!
    It will help you to produce some additional content, but on the more practical end it is also interesting to see what sticks and what end up being duds after the initial novelty wears of.

    Nice one boys! A cool follow up would be to use your (Johnny's) brewing knowledge to get the best from the system (perhaps allowing it to condition longer a little warmer to clean up that diacetyl, or using some US05 yeast instead etc). I think a lot of these kind of things try and make convenience a priority as they're not trying to appeal to brewers, whereas sometimes I'm sure you could get much better results just by making a few minor tweaks to the process.

      I agree Can U Hack the Pinter, longer ferment and or some Maturex or Alphalase ( an enzyme to prevent diacetyl) it's techy! Condition longer to let it clear, Add some hop extract or different hop extracts to the final pour you'll be pouring a clear Johnny Beater ( given you the name of your brew there). Could have several different flavours all your beer pick the Pinter pick the favourite.

    Great vid! I have a pinter. Not tried the APA, but this doesn't sound too hot. Maybe hard to get hoppy beers brewed in this manner? The pilsner was crazy fresh and did get it to be clear. Can condition for longer than it says too - 15 days for the Pils. Your unit fits together much better than mine, I have lots of trouble attaching the dock so getting that looked at - support has been good.

    • @TheCraftBeerChannel
      @TheCraftBeerChannel  3 роки тому +4

      I think you need to look at it not as a beer geek but as someone with a passing interest in beer - people who will never homebrew, but who might want a beer tap in their fridge. It's not taking away from homebrew, it's giving more people a tap at home.
      You could almost certainly use it as a secondary fermenter....might take some experimentation to get right though.

    Great program. Reminds me of those krups machines that dispense 2 litres of beer. The appeal of that machine is you don't need to stick it in the fridge. But you also don't make the beer. You buy proprietary pre made cartridges that aren't open sourced, so the machine just becomes a sad dusty paperweight.
    The appeal of pinter is that you have more beer at your disposal. More than twice as much as the krups if my maths is right. But do you have to stick in the fridge whenever you're not using it? Looks like it takes up lots of space.

    Been buzzing to try it. Wish I could. Original delivery was 2 months ago. Brewing Dock was so tight it snapped so had to get another one sent out. Still wouldn't fit. Turned out the main unit was faulty so got a new whole unit and brewing Dock which fits together well. Go to use it and one of the beers has leaked inside the box and the other has blown and started fermenting inside the bottle..... not a good start.

    Love the video! I’ve got two of these now, there’s loads of hacks and little bits you can do to take the kits to a much higher level. If you’re interested have a look at the Knights of the Pinter Facebook group - most end up extending the brewing (clean up that diacetyl) and conditioning (clear up the haze) time and even adding a cold crash. Hope this adds to people’s view of the product as they’re a great company and have great customer support.

  • @robainsworth7219
    @robainsworth7219 3 роки тому +1

    Look into the BeerMkr. Join the Facebook group and see the beers people are creating and making. Is a game changer for testing new recipes/taste combinations in a small volume. These can the. be scaled up if you’re a bigger brewer. The lack of a need to sterilise and clean everything separately is a plus for the novice.

    • @sslaxx
      @sslaxx 3 роки тому

      Looks very interesting. Way outside of my limited price range though, though it's nice to see it officially supports customising/making your own brews. If Greater Good were a little more flexible with the Pinter's customisation possibilities that'd be nice, as it is (if I can justify buying one) I'd probably make do with the press packs (at least for the warranty period).

    Like the format of this! I think this sort of product is great for someone looking to dip their toe into homebrew for the first time. I wonder if it's possible to hack the recipe kits by adding your own hops or yeast, or maybe using the equipment to serve other homebrew from, sorta like a mini cask?

  • @lukasjager2085

    I like the new format. I must confess that as an all-grain brewer I tend to look down on these "Just pour your extracts in and wait for some days" machines a little because it takes so much of the options and fun out of homebrewing. But I do homebrewing for the craft aspect of it. It balances my desk job a little. Not all of us do it for that reason, some people just want fresh beer and have better things to do with their saturdays than crushing malt and sanitizing bottles. That's perfectly okay and it's great that you address these people with your new format. Also I am really curious to see what Brad will dig up and I wish him the best of luck in his task of tricking Johnny into liking "Cheat" beer.
    Cheers from Germany. And now on to my American Amber Ale brewday ;)

  • @KevinAllOver
    @KevinAllOver 3 роки тому

    I think those extract packs are a solid idea. The main thing that deters me from homebrewing is the whole cleanup situation. Maybe a third party could make some that a) don't cost $17 each, and b) make good beer.

    • @TheCraftBeerChannel
      @TheCraftBeerChannel  3 роки тому +1

      To be honest I think the issue was the ferment and conditioning time they tell you to give it rather than the packs themselves. Going to trial longer maturation.

    • @psprog
      @psprog 3 роки тому +1

  • @colinmurphy2127
    @colinmurphy2127 3 роки тому

    I'm quite tempted to buy one.The stout looks good.The only issue at the moment is they all seem to top out at about 5%, but I think their website mentions that they are increasing the size of the malt packs to address that issue.
    If I bought one, would it end up like most kitchen gadgets...sitting, sad lonely and unused on the counter?

    • @TheCraftBeerChannel
      @TheCraftBeerChannel  3 роки тому +1

      I mean for the price the tech is AMAZING. But it's also just shown how many variables there are in brewing and even with these packs they can't control ferment temps and such. So it might end up dusty.

    • @dannypaterson8475
      @dannypaterson8475 3 роки тому +3

      I’ve got one, you’re right the stout is the most impressive I’ve had. But as for being left aside, I’ve used it maybe 6 times in two months. The monthly delivery means you’re anticipating the next one to arrive and they bring out a new recipe each month too. I can see it being part of my set up for a long time now.

    Love the Brad content, would definitely like to see more in this series.
    One thing you didn't cover (unless I missed it) was the price. Considering the shop-bought beers were better and available immediately, how does the cost per pint compare? What value would a casual beer drinker/brewer see in this option, unless it was considerably cheaper than buying in? Would be interested to know.

    • @TheCraftBeerChannel
      @TheCraftBeerChannel  3 роки тому +1

      Cost comparisons are tricky because craft beer varies so much but excluding the price of the machine itself the packs work out around £1.80-£2 a pint after wastage and such. So could be worth it with the cost of the machine if you use it frequently.

    That wooshy noise is your keg pressure escaping. You kinda need that to pour beer. Also oxygen entering the keg will spoil it

      Like him, I have very little knowledge of home brewing. The instructions tell you to open the valve and release the pressure before using the tap. 🤷‍♂️

    Should have done the test blind. You can tell just from the sediment that the first was the pinter...

      You are probably right...though I think you give a little too much credit to supermarket beers! Had some shockers in my time.

    4 days is too short before chilling, let it sit at least a week preferrably longer and it will remove the diacetyl issue

      Would you rather we lied to you? Also we didn't trash it, we just think the instructions need clarifying as clean beer in 4 days isn't really possible.

    What is Johnny"s accent? Some of the British ones get lost on my American ears. I like it though, it's very musical almost.

    I've been following it and seen loads of problems with it and the people who are trying to persist with it seem to be in an abusive relationship that they're hoping gets better. We all feel like we've got to justify purchases but it's painful watching someone else do it. You can buy bottled beer for the same price per pint that you know will be carbonated right, that you don't have to wait for, that won't spoil within days of you opening the first bottle.... and so on.
    The pinter is a toy. Soon to be hogging under the sink space near you.
