- Since I was a little kid, I've always had a love for all types of trucks. Having worked on many a construction job as a teenager, I was always fascinated with the ready mix trucks. Thomas Concrete has always had some of the better looking trucks here in metro Atlanta.

There's always one guy who has appointed himself as the official water waster. every job there's one.
Yeah, that guy pisses me off every time. He doesn't give a rip if you don't have enough water to clean your truck, he's going to throw 20 gallons on the ground that does nothing.

You’re absolutely correct mate it’s the same here in Australia! They think the truck is connected to a natural spring with never ending water! I just turn the water off 😉

we got some thomas facilities here in north carolina too i do admit their trucks look nice its weird to see a straight tandem axle one because trucks in this fuckin state have such a fascination with axles (especially that stupid looking "booster axle" at the rear) its almost surreal to see a tandem axle mixer these days
Have you ever been to Michigan? I think I counted nine axles on several mixers that I saw up there. Crazy how Bridge laws differ from state to state.
@@CoolHandMacc I have not but I believe I did recently see a photo of a ridiculous looking multi axle concrete truck like what’s the reason for it? does the concrete weight damn much? How heavy could the concrete be if it requires a ridiculous amount of axles another thing I’ve noticed about these “tri axle” mixers whose 3rd axle is that ridiculous looking “booster axle” is they have all that freaking space behind the cab and the tandems are not all the way at the back unlike a tandem axle mixer
@@CSX2665 same weight, just different state laws regarding axles on the trucks. Has to do with weight distribution on roadways and bridges.
If you were familiar with the laws you would know that 34000 pounds is the max load for a tandem axle, the extra axles add another 20000 each, now do the math for the weight of 9 yards of mud, we normally hauled 10 yards every time

Been driving a mixer for along time, I have no idea why these guys pouring this way but whatever. They paying for it and working twice as hard as have to and driver getting paid so all is good. Lol
Right, driver should get as close to the forms as poosible, wet the concrete up to about a 6 or 7 inch slump and pour it out full discharge to reach the the area that the chute cant reach.
How do you guys like this business?? I start next next driving a mixer truck
@@JimmyR83 alot of screwed up hours. Pretty well no life through the week. $ is good. It's a different lifestyle you will find out. Takes a while to get used to
@@jcearnhardt393 ya that’s what I’ve been hearing. I just got my class A cdl and no local companies that send you home every night won’t touch me because I have zero commercial experience. I just plan on doing this for about a year or so How long have you been doing it??
@@JimmyR83 about 6 years. Hard to beat the $. I was gone working from home for 30 years. There is no amount of $ worth that if you have family. Believe me. I give all the money back to watch my kids grow up more. At least now I do go home I just don't know when.

Came here from Victory Outdoor Services, seems like Thomas does a poor job all-around. No rebar, poor tools - hell they used a wooden block instead of an actual concrete form, and they must be overpriced as well because the amount of guys they have for this little job yet guys just standing there doing nothing.
Ryan is way more experienced his crew would have been finishing before these guys had the mud on the ground

Ah man. 1) If you want it wet, order it wet. 2) Leave the mixer driver water so he can wash his chutes. That pisses me off. And I agree they wasting time all the back and forth motion

Can you not see the huge gap in frame work for the first pass? I mean why else would they pour right there first needed dry and set up a bit.Also the water is for the mix it comes with the truck for that reason its not for the driver or his truck, its purchased by someone possibly the finishers or homeowner or contracter, ether way its not technically yours.

Gemäß EU-Normen ist jegliche Wasserzugabe zu fertig gemischtem Beton unzulässig und entbindet den Hersteller von seiner Gewährleistung! ... Um die Konsistenz von Beton zu verändern gibt es Fließmittel. Diese beeinträchtigen die Qualität des Betones weit weniger, als dies durch Wasserzugabe geschieht!

@Henk Vdk my trucks got a water pump that i can cut the air supply to, nothing like having a guy walk up to you with a stack of 10 buckets wanting to fill all of them up.

California Cemex orders trucks with 65 gal. water tanks . We fight it all summer . Makes the job 10x harder .Dummies who order trucks don't know which way the drum turns . Completely disconnected from the real world .

only 65 gallons!? i've had contractors put that much on me before i even get the first yard off.

@@kaykay592 hey nah I quit that job after 3 weeks it was horrible!!!! Worst job I ever had no BS. Please don’t go into that field. I got a class a now I drive an 18 wheeler for the gas station QT… It pays way more and it’s a cleaner job. I wouldn’t recommend anyone go into the concrete game.

they love to pay with that water. concrete is water base, so all the prespraying is wasting water. but they were taught that way, so we let them play

I give them 20 gallons to use as they please with add water or spray that's it because I need at least 50 gallons to wash out and if it's thick and I don't have enough water now I got dirty equipment

Auch das Ausbringen von Wasser auf den bereits verbauten Beton verhindert eine Verbindung von frischem und bereits verbautem Beton! ... Alles in Allem eine sehr unprofessionelle Darstellung. Weder Lieferant noch Verarbeiter zeigten gute Qualität!
I thougth USA did not ad water to fresh concrete at the job site.
The mix design at the bottom of the ticket let’s you know that amount of water you may add if needed. If there is an inspector he won’t let you add water more than once.
There are different codes per state, county, city. Its usually put on the truck at a 4" slump. Different contractors can modify it accordingly

I am 83 years old. I drove it Mix for 30+ years earlier years. ( diamond t trucks) drums McNeilus, We had standard 5 😢speed transmission on a truck and 3 standard transmission on the Mix. Three speed 123/hi hi 2 low for the road ,,,,,,

Wondering what was different about it. “Tailgating” is a pretty common practice. Not paying for a pump and no wheelbarrows
The idiot on the chute didn't move it left to right and put the concrete down where it needed to be. Plus leaving concrete in the chute to dry out. It should take 15 minutes to pour out a truck, with a contractor. A little longer and more patience with a home owner doing his own work.

Chute man needs to put some rubber boots on, cement will dry those leather boots out quickly.
These are European style concrete trucks. I grew up with them.

we use this style alot in Canada
Not like this these guys are handling way too much that driver should have only needed to do one pass and you get two guys spreading and one guy finishing
