@Sean Bunting Exactly this, he's a master at it. I found it interesting to watch/listen to him practice his craft. The entire dice story was him setting up his trick. They sort of touch on the psychology earlier in the podcast. To add to that, if anyone here has played craps and specifically the fire bet, no pit boss or dealer would ever have to tell the table the fire bet had just hit. I've been at a table where it hit, the last point was 12, we all knew it and when it hit, you'd have thought we would have shook the building down. This is one of my favorite stories I've ever heard from anyone. The idea of a kid taking his life into his own hands, and becoming the absolute BEST at something as wild as dice throwing, in order to support himself and his Ma, is amazing. It's just cool, it inspires me to practice hard at anything I want to be good at. I hate being bad at things I like, e.g. sports, video games, puzzles etc. I hate the feeling of doing poorly, feeling inadequate, but the truth is, if I really wanted to I could be good at anything, and so could ANYONE here in this comment section, all it takes is time. Put the time in and you'll be amazing. There is no barrier, there is nothing holding us back but our own mind and willpower, it's so refreshing to feel like you can take it into your own hands. I know it seems like common sense but when your a guy who used to suffer from depression, the world can seem so unreachable, even if it's an arms reach away.......Marcus Aurelius once said something to the effect of, "We must be active in our own rescue...", that's what the kid in the story did, he rescued himself with time and repetition. Also, it's cool the mystique about the kid actually being David himself, real cool Magician-type mystery.
I thought I had no rhythm so I taught myself how to dance kinda, from there I started learning simple drum patterns then progressively harder, I then wanted to try my hands at piano but finger dexterity was awful and my left hand does what it wants A year later I’m pretty solid on the piano and and do some pretty complex rhythms as well As you said you just have to try and practice. I say the same about people who say they can’t cook, people seem to assume that chefs just understand all recipes and flavours etc… read recipes and practice that’s all it takes, any one can cook
Love this comment, as someone who suffers from depression it truly does feel sometimes and everything is unreachable. I often feel inadequate as well and strive to succeed when i fail, i set high standards for myself and try my best to reach them. i love this story as well as i admire everyone with sheer willpower and dedication to a craft. my dream in life is to be a master at something, to be skilled and specialized in a specific domain like none else ever has. the thought of being inhumanely proficient at something is such a fantasy of mine. some that i am striving for currently are at a video game called Valorant, science, and my artistic vision and ability to convey my imagination into visual works. for college im still debating whether i should pursue my passion in film or my interest in aerospace engineering. i believe that ambition truly drives this world:)

That's what magicians do. Tell a story, set up the mythology and create moments. He's been doing it for 20+ years, I don't think he can help himself lol
I like how right after the dice trick, Blaine directly telegraphs how he did it to magicians with his coded words. He’s telling them “I know we all know this specific gimmick but it’s very effective and easy and fun”
The gimmick was that joe was in on the trick. He wasn't tricking Joe he was tricking the audience. He made a point to Joe to not allow him to see the dice, made it very clear. Joe is the person that everyone thinks he's tricking when in reality if you just look Joe shows him the dice. It was an inside joke between them.
David Blaine: "Listen to this amazing story of this kid and how he learned to throw dice and goes around the world winning at craps". Joe Rogan: "My friend Dana White is good at blackjack".
The whole story about the kid is what made the dice trick so cool. If out of no where, he was like, _"Hey do you wanna see a cool dice trick?"_ ... it would be like _WTF?_ The story telling, the way he sprinkles in his own human vulnerabilities, and the way he cleverly takes his time to set up his tricks is a lot of the magic in his craft. It's not just about a 30 second trick. Blaine really nails down the psychology that makes these tricks more astonishing to the audience... rather than just rushing it through.
Haha ya I always just assumed he smokes weed allday and that's just his normal personality at this point. I honestly dont kno for sure or do I care enough to follow his career enough to know more about him. If anyone knows for sure let me kno!
It’s interesting watching the podcast knowing Blaine has certain stories ready that will lead to his magic trick that he’s already planned but making it seem like he’s just spontaneously doing the trick
David Blaine is one of the most dedicated performers I have ever seen. He pushes himself to limits that most of us will never know exist. Thanks for having him on the Podcast.
Try to explain it to me... I'm an avid casino goer, play roulette, poker, and poker table games but I wanna play dice but they don't show you how at the table lol help me understand it bro. I understand a bit about betting up to 6 or from 6-12 or something or another lol
When David says "Yeah, but Im terrible at it." Translated: "I'm excellent at it. Pretty much mastered it. You can't beat me. I just don't find it interesting anymore, because I'm too good at it. I'm just better at other things that I spend way more time on."
I came to know about both of them in the early 2000s shows, then forgotten them in early - mid 2010s and now they sit here together , circle of life is complete
@stepAside it's a common meme that Joe asks everybody if they've done dmt. At the time he linked to Joe rogan looks like he's jacking off. Implying that if somebody were to ever flip the tables and ask HIM if he's done dmt, he would be so delighted that he'd start jacking off

Part of Blaine's performance here is his casualness. He stutters and acts conversational since he's on a podcast.. but that's part of the illusion of it all. He's one of the best magicians in the world because of how incredible of an actor he is. All that being said, how the FUCK did he know what the die was? My personal theory is that there is a transmitter in the die that signals to him what the number facing up is. I think Blaine knows enough about dice to know what numbers are facing outward and was improvisationally adept enough to connect the five to his story earlier..
My thoughts exactly, makes you think that listening to a dice 15 hours a day landing on a different number would make a different note, who knows though.

Something tells me “I wasn’t cheating” means “I trained since I was 12 to throw dice”

David is a great story teller he doesn't just perform tricks
He design his performances in a way that people may think that "It could be real" and it's not just a trick perform
That's what makes him great
His stories blow tho.... "I met guy, things happened, watch me wiggle thing, story almost done, correct wiggling....magic"
bullsi20 😂😂
@Sean Bunting Exactly this, he's a master at it. I found it interesting to watch/listen to him practice his craft. The entire dice story was him setting up his trick. They sort of touch on the psychology earlier in the podcast. To add to that, if anyone here has played craps and specifically the fire bet, no pit boss or dealer would ever have to tell the table the fire bet had just hit. I've been at a table where it hit, the last point was 12, we all knew it and when it hit, you'd have thought we would have shook the building down. The entire casino literally stopped to look at us going bonkers.
He has never formed a trick with a story. His on screen presentation is awful... stares, breaths slow; are you ready for magic ?
His stories used to SUCK. Storytelling is a skill he picked up in the past 10 years
I met this guy when I worked security at the liberty science center where he had to perform...him and his beautiful wife were very nice people and humble.

Very unrated comment
I thought I had no rhythm so I taught myself how to dance kinda, from there I started learning simple drum patterns then progressively harder, I then wanted to try my hands at piano but finger dexterity was awful and my left hand does what it wants
A year later I’m pretty solid on the piano and and do some pretty complex rhythms as well
As you said you just have to try and practice.
I say the same about people who say they can’t cook, people seem to assume that chefs just understand all recipes and flavours etc… read recipes and practice that’s all it takes, any one can cook
The story was probably fake

@Han Lockhart A magician

How is joe asking why Blaine has a dice in his pockets he’s a magician his pockets are like a tardis😂
Joe seems kinda pissy here.
Blaine's best magic trick is making a 30 second story expand to over 5 minutes
No, that was a 5 minute story, which would have been ruined if told in 30 seconds by someone who can't tell a story.
I know a bunch of content creators that are good at that lol
Nope
Haha ya I always just assumed he smokes weed allday and that's just his normal personality at this point. I honestly dont kno for sure or do I care enough to follow his career enough to know more about him. If anyone knows for sure let me kno!

Blaine seems to be a really likable guy. Master of his craft. Much respect
Perfect explanation, thank you! Even after you explained, still amazed at how good DB's performance is
My guess is it's a special die that makes a different sound for each surface when it's hit against a table.
My thoughts exactly, makes you think that listening to a dice 15 hours a day landing on a different number would make a different note, who knows though.
his ring controls the dice like lock numbers you can see him scrolling or tapping at 8:55 to change it from the 4 before to 5
probably some electronic thingy which can change the dots
