Listened to this song over and over and over during basic training, dreaming about my girl. My girl later became my wife and we've been married since 1974. Tell me music can't get you thru hard times and I'll call you a liar!
For 40+ years I have wanted to see a video of this group performing in their heyday. With the American Bandstand performance apparently lost forever and no known video existing of the group from that era, this video photo album is what we have left to treasure. I bought this single in 1971 and it remains a favorite today. It always cheers me up and will always be a part of my life. Thank you RCG for the life-time of happiness you brought me.
A Boston based band, Orpheus, did this first in 1968. There are several versions- highly orchestrated (wow! hauntingly beautiful) and a pared down version, also breathtaking. This is faster and not nearly as sweet, in my opinion. Also, Hootie and the Blowfish covered this and turned many people on to one of the most beautiful songs ever written. Please check out the other versions, especially Orpheus'. It is truly a great song no matter who is doing it though.....
I am very familiar with the Orpheus version, which drags to me. I call it the Perry Como version. Rose Colored Glass has the uplifting pop version and I love pop, not crooners. So to me, this one is the best version by far.
Fantastic! I knew this group had a second hit but no one ever seems to remember it, even me. Thanks for posting this and giving me a chance to hear both songs again. Love it!
Thank You Pauline, RCG had the pleasure and opportunity to creat this work and share it with so many. We are very happy it touched you as it does us. Thank you for your support Stay Safe LM RCG

We just lost our friend Roe Cree who was a member of this group. He was a friend and neighbor of ours here I San Miguel de Allende, Mx. I think we'll play this single at his memorial. R.I.P. my friend!
So, there REALLY was such a group! I think for many, many years, I thought it was just a one-shot studio thing, even though I love, absolutely love, this version of the classic by Orpheus. What a time capsule this is!! Wolfsky9
Thank-you so much for these pics--I love this & the original version. Both are wonderful, & they take me back to an innocent time, a better time. Wolfsky9
This is about as white bread as you can get. Bruce Arnold's original version with Orpheus had a groove and his inspiration Billy Stewart's 1965 hits "I Do You Love You" and "Sitting In The Park" were even slower. Arnold had soul, which is why the R&B and Lowrider crowd adopted his version and skipped this silly cover.

GREAT CRUISING SONG SUMMER 1971
Orpheus had the first hit in New England of this song...a slightly slower song that was the closer of many bands @ The Surf Nantasket
In the style of Cornelius Brothers & Sister Rose.

Roe Cree died, yesterday, in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. RIP.

And now, a new version by The Explorers Club ft. Steven Page (formerly of Barenaked Ladies)!
