Take its soul...... then give it a new one!! I've been reading the Reed Ghazala on Circuit bending on and off for ages and yet I've always had a dark interest in opening things that made noises and thought 'Maybe I'll short this out with this!' using some of my Dad's breadboard wires when I was in my teens, when I was you and fresh and not withered and tired, like these days. The benefit of circuit bending these days is identifying devices/chips you know you can do a good bend on without killing it!

Ohh the DD5. Surprisingly good as a pad MIDI controller. I gutted mine for some analog synth toms using the pads but still kept the guts for re-housing into a MIDI drum brain or some kind of MIDI drum trigger project

@19m10, You mean positive and negative edge.
@33m00 you might be better off using a CD40106 Schmidt inverter instead of a transistor. it's a abrupt change, either on/off but nothing in between ... unless you use a Schmidt trigger (wiki: Schmidt trigger) transistor setup, witch takes like 3 transistor ( 1 to invert ) and a bunch if resistors, now it's more voltage controlled thing and not really what you want and it might fail if you apply the wrong "type" of voltage.
the Cd40106 is the MUST have CMOS IC in your collection ic as Synth builder guy, use 1 to invert or 2 cascaded for non inverting.
How about pop rivets and matching metal rings to support the plastic on the back?
not being a nit picky, just trying to help.

Best advice ever snipping the battery lead. I knackered a nice keyboard because of negative battery lead falling on to pcb.

Great preservation again Buddy. Make it worth something, right 😆 Aluminum does have a happy speed where the material won't stick to the step bit. High speed minimum pressure needed to cut 👍🖖 yet. Shiz bits are shiz bits in a minute

I wanted to simply replace the pads on this with momentary switches. Would i still need to add transistors to boost the voltage, or is there another way to go about it?

i think the midi on that drum machine was fir adding drum tracks to a
very similar yamadhuh midi-keyboard (or any other midi-keyboard that didn't already have built in #rythm tracks...
Rather than be a drum kit replacement.
I think it sold for like 79.99 USD back in the day.
and i didn't much like it myself
becuse of the poor sensitivity of the hard rubber pads. But it was much cheaper than a midi keyboard back in its day.

Sad bit of dissection. Looks like a 6800 based system with a timer/ROM and addressing multimeter, but not close to enough resolution to read the chips. Didn't hang around for 1.5+ hours, but wondering if OP figured this out..?

Sam, I think some of the circuit bending vids would be better done as 15-30 min vids and you making multiples parts but that depends on how much time you have free. Slicing a dicing a stream is another option to cut it down into smaller parts but you might need to record the stream on camera and stream at the same time too. Circuit bending vids would be a welcome addition to the channel tho.
