Hey bardown, content has been great recently. Is there any chance you guys circle back to your original quizzes and make a part 2 to those? (Contract/free agency/jersey/logo quiz) would be awesome to see
Flames have 20 million in cap space and have been acquiring great prospects from drafts and trades over the last 2 years. There also 8 more 1st/2nd rounders coming the Flames way in the next 2 drafts. I don't really get why everyone is so fixated on the Huberdeau contract - it's bad but it's totally survivable. Dallas is doing just fine with a couple of boat anchor contracts in Benn and Seguin. The main point is that there's cap space and a lot of young guys coming in. You can call it the Void but I think the direction is a hell of a lot clearer than what the Penguins are doing.
They have more depth than last year. They have more young talent they addressed or have tried to address their biggest issues (their PK) made playoffs for the three years were in the hunt last year until the las month of the season. Sounds like a team looking to make the playoffs again.
The thing about Anaheim last year is that, in context, it may only be *slightly* better than two seasons ago in terms of points, but it was nowhere near as dire. Two seasons ago, everything was the problem, top to bottom. We had prospects, but the team had no idea how to play hockey in any phase of the game. Last season, we lost so many 1-goal games that could have gone either way, when normally, we'd get blown out, but we were a lot more solid until we traded away the vets at the deadline, plus we had some bad injury luck last year. Defense and special teams improved to bang-average (which is way up from "worst in the league") while offense regressed. If Cronin can get goalscoring worked out this season, then best-case scenario, we may just compete for a wild card spot. We're nowhere near contenders, I'm not gonna pretend like "WE'RE GANNA WIN DA LEAGUE!" but it just feels like we have one major problem, and if we get that sorted, we can expect to see major growth.
Detroit missed the playoffs by one point. Everyone is acting like they sucked last year and will bad. They were also underrated before last season too. Until they actually make it people will never respect them.
@blatty2646 Absolutely, people have been claiming Ottawa will make a jump for years. They lost Chychrun and gained Ullmark. Other than that, they haven't done very much to change the team.

@LRon-Hoyabembe you give them too much credit! Even on paper it was clear this was not going to be the same team as last year. New coach and system, grittier forwards, beefed up defensemen, and complete upgrade in net. Not to mention their youngsters getting even better with age. But I will admit the Prague series cleared a lot of doubt for me personally, albeit it's only a small sample size. And I agree, they're definitely going for other teams throats this year, preferably teams in red white and blue 😈
@@Musicmelo14 they lost to a rookie goaltender in Akira Schmid when they played in the playoffs, did you forget? This season is their last real chance at a cup, something you haven't seen in a very long time, sport.
Putting Ottawa in “Playoffs?!” category is one of the worst all time takes. They haven’t made the playoffs in 7 years. That’s the literal definition of a hockey void.
On Detroit: Seider was still good last year. He had the 3rd hardest usage of any dmen since the cap became a thing, and alway against the toughest match ups because red wings had no one else they cuold trust in those situations. Almost every statistic fails to account for that. Also they don't have to trust Talbot to carry them. They hope that one of Talbot ahusso or Lyon can do that. Husso need to be healthy, Lyon need to prove that he can maintain his good performances for longer periods of time and Talbot needs to prive that he can do what he did last season behind Mo Seider and his merry men.

As an Oilers fan! Oilers are getting rated higher than they need to be, I understand why but Knowing Oilers for so long, I don't feel they are clear favorites, I think Florida is right there with them, and Vancouver, Colorado and Dallas are pretty freaking good as well. Also, Oilers lack of Defensive issues hasn't been fully addressed yet.
I can see Edmonton going deep in the playoffs, but Stanley cup winner? I can’t take them seriously with that defence core, Ekholm carries it so bad. Bouchard is a beauty but only puts up points. The rest are mid at best, not to mention the pylon known as Nurse. Skinner also needs to show a little more consistency, but he is still a good goalie. I’ve picked Dallas the last few years, and I could see them making the finals, but my cup pick is the Rangers. About time they take another step, they are too good defensively and have one of, if not, the best goaltending tandem in the league. All they are missing is some bottom 6 depth or a second line winger to replace Riley Smith.
1 goal away from it last year, saying cant take them seriously os pretty stupid. Their defence on first glance sucks but they did real good last season
Problem with Edmonton is they only got as far as they did because the goal tending overperformed. The team got worse this year, and they've had 2 terrible performances in 2 games from the net minders. Early exit this year.

I think having the Leafs in a tier above Vegas is kind of wild. Vegas has just as much, if not more, talent. Plenty of players there with Cup rings. Idk. Feels like a weird choice
Jesse's right on about maybe next year for the Wild. I think we should make the playoffs this year, but even if we do, we will lose the first round. Next year, we finally get to be a real team again (thanks NHL), and if Rossi, Khusnutdinov, Buium, and Wallstedt all make strides, I can see next year moving into the elites. Of course, we're Minnesota, so I know better.
If you ever wanna know how the league views vegas. This is it. You clearly havent watched any vegas games if youre saying alec martinez was a big loss. He was good in our cup run but last year he was a liability. He was slow, turned over the puck often. He was everything you dont want in a defensemen. Stephenson was a loss, but hertl > chandler. we needed a big net front guy who could just park in front, win net battles, and tip in shots and rebounds. I know hindsight is 20/20 but we more than made up what we lost considering other than marchessault, we primarily lost depth players. But barbie has more than stepped up to meet that, same with olof before the injury. In fact our biggest hinderance now, is hill falling off. Idk if hes just lacking confidence, but he's been struggling. And that means if our defense is a little off, we lose. Do i think vegas will make a cup run? Nah. But i feel like theyre a shoe in for a playoffs spot as long as they stay healthy. I mean additions like hanifin to replace martinez, holtz on depth, hertl to replace stephenson, olofsson to also fill the stephenson void. I feel like we did what vegas has always done. Stacked our team with players who may not be mega stars like matthews, but filled our team with a core and 2nd line level underrated players to fill the rest of th3 slots

For sure. They just need to stay healthy so that the chemistry can continue to develop. Leo to Cutter looking pretty good so far in preseason. Hoping they can keep it up.
I didn’t necessarily disagree with any of the rankings but I think there needed to be a tier between Cream of the Crop and Playoffs. Playoffs should’ve been looked at as teams on the bubble could make it, maybe don’t. And Cream of the Crop should be teams that are basically locks for the playoffs and have a strong chance at a cup run. I feel teams like the devils, leafs, canes, and maybe bruins and Canucks fall in between that. Borderline locks for the playoffs but not viewed as a top 5 team. Like Devils and leafs in the same category as the panthers rangers and stars just feels wrong. Maybe next year also should’ve been reworded to looking to the future.
According to most available defensive metrics, Ottawa was a better team than Boston 5on5, and also in their defensive zone. Ottawa got caved in by their goalies. 22 times, they allowed the first goal of the game on the first or second shot allowed, which I believe is an NHL record. Ottawa couldn't get saves or stay healthy last year. If they get both quality goaltending and health, they're in
Have a feeling that Buffalo placement is gonna bite you guys. (not a Sabres fan but I feel like they have to put it together this year or heads are gonna roll)
That prediction board is hilarious :30 . Who puts TOR as "The Cream of the Crop" over FL, the NYR or even BOS. Maybe TOR will be better this year since they acquired a legit #1 goalie in Stolarz.
Everyone always forgets about Brandon Montour, Mister Clutch for Florida’s playoff runs Without him to clutch up and score OT goals every Overtime, I don’t know who’s gonna step up and get it done
The Pens missed the playoffs on the last game of the season with one of the worst power plays in the league. If the power play was even 1% better than last season they make the playoffs.
As a canes fan I agree with what has been said, but I do not believe our window is closing. This year is a retool year we had a lot of expiring contracts and we are in the process of setting ourselves up for the future. We have good prospects coming up an our organization does great getting creative. We will be back in the top of the league but it will just take a year….. we also perform better when we are not expected to do well both years we went to the eastern conference finals 2019 and 2023 we were not expecting to do well. This team still has it in them
@LRon-Hoyabembethe Canes core isn’t that old. Seth Jarvis, Svech, Aho, and Necas are all under 30 and they have some pretty good prospects in Blake, FUS, Artamonov, Trikozov, Nadeau, Nikishin, and Morrow are all high end prospects and they have other solid prospects. Canes have also been really good at turning fridge NHL players into solid NHL regulars (see Noesen and Chatty)
Have they heard how good Nikita Artamonov? He’s dominating in the KHL. Also are they coveting that Jarvis is still young, Svech‘s pretty young, and Aho isn’t that old. Their core is on the younger side compared to other contenders.
Yinz gave 31 teams atleast 2 to 2.5 min … but not the PENS … regardless of how yinz feel about their upcoming season - it’s not fair to the team that holds Sidney P. Crosby (currently on NHL MOUNT RUSHMORE & still playing)…. this team is honestly better on paper than the last 2 years - & youth has been injected into the lineup (love Jeff Carter but no more!) & you cannot bet against & angry Sidney Crosby who hasn’t felt playoff hockey in 2 years - In the last 13 games of ‘23-‘24 … Pens went 8-2-3 (that even includes the meaningless last game of season loss against the Isles) Sid put up 25 pts GENO put up 14 pts Rusty put up 15 pts EK65 put up 10 pts Bunting - 13 pts & with great leadership from SID - the ENTIRE team rallied behind him - wasn’t just him like it was for most of the season . really hope you guys realize that the “Pens in the Void” stigma is dead . the team has a direction. you just can’t ever count SID out , I’m sorry . - & thank you Jesse for being the only one backing them up
Anyone else sick of Luca? That take on the Avs was so incredibly biased along with several other takes. The avs will probably make the playoffs, they are NOT top 5 by any means. Terrible forward depth, atrocious goalies
I think the devils make the playoffs for sure this year, but it’s really a toss up of whether it will be as the #1, 2, or 3 in the metro, or a wildcard. Can go any way
Florida wins the presidents trophy, makes it to the finals twice in a row, wins the cup in dominating fashion except for 2 games they were clearly way off their game. And you call the Oilers the favorite to win it all? A team who squeaked their way through to the finals?

I feel teams like the devils, leafs, canes, and maybe bruins and Canucks fall in between that. Borderline locks for the playoffs but not viewed as a top 5 team. Like Devils and leafs in the same category as the panthers rangers and stars just feels wrong. Maybe next year also should’ve been reworded to looking to the future.
Julia is cute
According to most available defensive metrics, Ottawa was a better team than Boston 5on5, and also in their defensive zone. Ottawa got caved in by their goalies. 22 times, they allowed the first goal of the game on the first or second shot allowed, which I believe is an NHL record. Ottawa couldn't get saves or stay healthy last year. If they get both quality goaltending and health, they're in
As a flames fan, this hurts, but I agree
ngl, it's nice as a Canucks fan to finally get some respect this season. It's been a rough decade tbh.
Can you put all these discussions on the spotify/podcast feeds?
I can’t in good conscience have Edm as Cup winner Vancouver is my pick
LOL. the Canucks have one good season and suddenly their fans come out from under the floorboards like cockroaches
Big shoutout for Jesse reppin’ the three crowns! 🇸🇪🇸🇪👑👑👑
Jesse going off on the flames is killing me speaking facts tho!!
Ye with little faith left Puljujarvi from Pittsburgh's line-up!
Great to see a Swedish Tre Kronor jersey Jesse!
The way that LA is EDM's warmup round is how the isles are to carolina
Have a feeling that Buffalo placement is gonna bite you guys. (not a Sabres fan but I feel like they have to put it together this year or heads are gonna roll)
No, it won’t. Buffalo will always suck dude.
Heard a great way of describing the no-mans-land teams recently. "no today and no tomorrow"
Just opened the video and I already miss Corwin… also where is Dz?
Came for the hockey love. Subscribing for the hot shots 3 caddy Mel reference. “CREAM CHEEESE!” 17:34
Can't believe it's been a year since the last prediction vid was out
Love how some teams are talked about in depth for 5 minutes and some teams are talked about for 1 minute and not in depth like others. seems biased
Putting the Caps a tier above the Penguins is laughable.
That prediction board is hilarious :30 . Who puts TOR as "The Cream of the Crop" over FL, the NYR or even BOS.
Maybe TOR will be better this year since they acquired a legit #1 goalie in Stolarz.
My only problem with Edmonton is that they aren’t really young anymore
How is that a problem? They have all experienced guys for the most part who know what it takes to win it all. They’ll probably be even more hungry too
Utah in playoffs is insane, 1st overall for sure.
Did Corwin actually leave Bardown
Everyone always forgets about Brandon Montour, Mister Clutch for Florida’s playoff runs
Without him to clutch up and score OT goals every Overtime, I don’t know who’s gonna step up and get it done
Where do I find the final list?
The Preds 3rd line is all 15 goal scorers and didn’t play full seasons. And you need a tough 4th line. They are cream of the crop for sure.
Canucks should be cup contenders, you must hate the Canucks.
I am a Canucks fan and I even think that they shouldn't be in cup contenders.
I have a good amount of teams ahead of edmonton, and yes the canucks are one of them
@@bristlethistle7456 lmao
You have to be incredibly biased to think Canucks should be cup contenders
No, it’s official, Bardown hates the Canucks 😅
Calling LA Kings "Edmonton's warm up round" is crazzzzy! lol
I hope they filmed this after bruins yesterday
53:17 Rangers only lost once to the Panthers in OT. While the only two wins the Rangers had in that series were in overtime, in a row.
Yo where do I get a pair of those glasses Jesse is rocking? those are absolutely sick
The Jets could be surprisingly really good. Let’s go!!!!!!!!!!!!
With new coaching, it really could go either way. Hopefully special teams improve this year, and they can keep the solid defensive play.
Canadiens goalie just shutout the Leafs 1-0 with 47 saves
Vasi plays like he did two 3 years ago. The lightning are going to be a huge surprise this year.
team getting older
42:25 wait what? I'll give you a hint, Parise and Suter
this is the last yr the buyouts will cost alot
Gotta love the “window is starting to close for Carolina”. Yah tell that to Unger Sorum, Blake, Morrow, Nadeau and Nikishin. They will be fine.
Have they heard how good Nikita Artamonov? He’s dominating in the KHL. Also are they coveting that Jarvis is still young, Svech‘s pretty young, and Aho isn’t that old. Their core is on the younger side compared to other contenders.
Without Z this one is hosted by "I've never seen Dryden's mask before" Luca. How does that even happen?
Cant wait to see the habs win the the Stanley cup this year ‼️💪🏻🔵⚪️🔴
Honestly, if they somehow play the Oilers for the Cup, I'll root for the Habs. I don't like the Oilers, they're overrated.
@@MrKyleMcQueen lol, the team that just went to game 7 of the cup finals is overrated. you really used your brain for that one.
"But their name is still the Toronto Maple Leafs..." best joke!
Yinz gave 31 teams atleast 2 to 2.5 min … but not the PENS … regardless of how yinz feel about their upcoming season - it’s not fair to the team that holds Sidney P. Crosby (currently on NHL MOUNT RUSHMORE & still playing)…. this team is honestly better on paper than the last 2 years - & youth has been injected into the lineup (love Jeff Carter but no more!)
& you cannot bet against & angry Sidney Crosby who hasn’t felt playoff hockey in 2 years -
In the last 13 games of ‘23-‘24 …
Pens went 8-2-3 (that even includes the meaningless last game of season loss against the Isles)
Sid put up 25 pts
GENO put up 14 pts
Rusty put up 15 pts
EK65 put up 10 pts
Bunting - 13 pts
& with great leadership from SID - the ENTIRE team rallied behind him - wasn’t just him like it was for most of the season .
really hope you guys realize that the “Pens in the Void” stigma is dead . the team has a direction.
you just can’t ever count SID out , I’m sorry .
- & thank you Jesse for being the only one backing them up
Anyone else sick of Luca? That take on the Avs was so incredibly biased along with several other takes. The avs will probably make the playoffs, they are NOT top 5 by any means. Terrible forward depth, atrocious goalies
I think Seattle or St. Louis should replace LA in playoff spot. The doughty injury is going to hurt as well
Jesse's Sweden drip is immaculate
Sabres have been 1 year away since 2012
I think the devils make the playoffs for sure this year, but it’s really a toss up of whether it will be as the #1, 2, or 3 in the metro, or a wildcard. Can go any way
Florida wins the presidents trophy, makes it to the finals twice in a row, wins the cup in dominating fashion except for 2 games they were clearly way off their game. And you call the Oilers the favorite to win it all? A team who squeaked their way through to the finals?
I'm a simple man. If I see a tre kronor shirt I press like!
No offense to these guys but hard to watch without Corwin. He was definitely the heart of bardown, Jessie is the prehensile tail Luca is the opposable thumb and Z is the brain.
Craig Berube is such a good coach. I bet 2 years of him gets the leafs to a finals.
My finals guess is NYR/NJD vs DAL/VAN
No faith in the oilers.
