There is not one word in the Bible that says that a woman has to stay with an abusive husband...especially if he is physically abusive. My pastor would NEVER counsel a woman by telling her that she has to stay with a man who is beating her. He would, as a matter of fact, assist her in getting OUT of the marriage. Some of these "old school" pastors make no sense...and if I had a pastor that told me to stay in abusive marriage, I would leave his church and my husband! This woman is giving her the same ill-advice as well. Would she stay in her marriage if her husband was beating her? I would forgive after much prayer...and I'd be packing at the same time. Too many women are in the graveyard listening to people who think that they are giving "godly" advice/counsel.
I don’t agree it’s right to stay in an abusive relationship. Forgiveness is vital in our lives, an abusive partner is not a test from God for God doesn’t seek to harm us. The abusive person must find healing, if there is an abusive person in the church the church should help in ensuring the safety of the family & help the abuser and only then offer help with reconciliation. Many women and children have died before their time in the name of endurance. Abuse is never right!! It’s not godly.
James 1:8 A double minded man is unstable in all his ways. This husband is double minded, he wants to put away his wife because of his arrogance. Wolf in sheep clothing at church but abuse his wife behind close doors. This man was suffering from pride and status. There are people in the body of Christ that are save but not delivered, followers but need deliverance. On the other hand, the wife was so bitter because she was suffering by beating and harsh words. Words are not wind they are powerful and can destroy a person physically mentally emotionally. God ordained marriage and it is honorable in God's sight. The enemy does not love marriage and he will do anything to destroy a beautiful home created by God. So I take this opportunity to encourage all married couple to build your relationship on the foundation of God and be prayerful regarding your marriage and home. Don't go around telling everyone what is happening in your home, tell it to God seek the face of God for your marriage. God bless you.
