A MIND BLOWING TRANSFORMATION

- We’ve been running up and down our stairs without railing for about 2 years now.
Before that we were climbing a ladder from the main floor to the loft so honestly, stairs without railing were a major upgrade.
But now we’re elevating this space and really taking it from a build site to a future family home.
Follow along as complete our stair railing.
*******************************************************************
And now a little back story on us, in case you just found us on UA-cam. We’re Sara and Ryan. We are your average suburban family, but 10 years ago, we purchased a raw piece of land in the Hood Canal in Washington. We’ve been developing this piece of property slowly, and this year we knew it was time to go all in. So we purchased a log cabin kit home and decided that 2020 would be the year we built a house on our property. We plan to build this cabin (as much as we can) on our own.
Unfortunately, some unforeseen events in 2020 that were completely out of our hands put a delay on our cabin kit being produced and delivered in the time frame we had originally planned. While we could have just waited it out and pushed back starting on the build of our home, we decided to shift gears and change our course for the time being. We purchased a 30 foot yurt, and will be setting it up as additional living space when we begin to build our cabin.
In the summer of 2021, we FINALLY moved to the Hood Canal so we could start the build of our future home. While we are building our home, we are living in a camper trailer and the yurt that we built in the summer of 2020. We hope to have our cabin kit home built by the end of 2023. Just my husband and I are building the house. We get help here and there from friends along the way and we do plan to get help on the roof but other than that we are doing it all on our own.
Follow along with us as we build our dream in the Hood Canal.

My two cents is put anything up so you can finally move in to your beautiful home. You can always change it later. I love it either way! 😊
That railing looks really good!
the railing looks great !! nice job
Great job on the railings. It is always a difficult job getting all the gaps in the railings the same.
Two major accomplishments on this video.
So happy for you.
I like the style of railing you have now
I think wire would look too modern and clash with the rest of the house.
Adding a rounded cap to the top of the railing
( or just round off the edges of a 2x4 would look okay) and some nice looking caps on top of the posts would look great.
I think Sarah's idea of staining the posts a different shade would look nice also.
Now lets get the occupancy permit 😊
I was gonna say the same Lol
The railings look really good. Just stain them to match the walls. You can decorate the colors and features in that way. That way if you don't like something its easy to fix!😊
I think the spindles looks awesome, I am partial to wood especially in your house. Love the cabin feel.
Railing looks awesome,,Glad you didn't go with a cable railing!
I love the railing and the spindles. You did a great job. ♥️ I’m impressed that he can drill such great pocket holes without a jig! 😳
I love that railing and the spindles! Works well with the inside wood. Very impressed which is no surprise.
Stair railing looks amazing 👏
Great job 👍 👍
You two Should be very proud of what you have built, and even more proud that you did it together.
Stay focused! Enjoy your celebration 🎉😊
It's definitely been the ultimate marriage test. We've come through it happier and very proud of what we have achieved.
Love the railing it won’t be long now can’t wait until you all can move in then you all can say well done
I love the spindles, adds a lot of character to your home. Great build....
The rails look great. If you want different vibe then change it but I would be pleased with them as is.
I would see what Kyle could come up with for your railing to tie in the hood, fan and metal trim. Good job on making great progress and getting one step closer to moving in!
I would definitely do cable railing. It does what you need for code, but also does not block the view of those windows in front of them. I agree with the other comment of it looking like deck railing.
It's looks lovely in keeping with the rest of your beautiful house.
Like the railing that you're putting up. Looks nice!
Thanks 👍. It's growing on us.
The stairs look great.
They look great ,another job well done
Beautiful railing, great job❤❤
Looks great 👍Hi from Colorado Springs 😀
I love your railing 👌
LOVE ITHE JUST LIKE IT IS ! ! ! !
We usually glue and screw on this type of fitting
Nice job. I think cable would be too modern. This style looks like a deck railing. I would have cut the pickets to be attached inside the rails with a nice thick rounded cap on the railing, more traditional. But you were smart to just "git er dun" with the materials provided and dress it up later after you moved in :) You could always find tree branches to attach in front of the pickets?
Hi guys railling os looking good😊
Well done guy's a lot of work but looks amazing .x
Great job guys xXx
Well done x
Yay
Use Hickory branches they are as tough as it gets….would make a beautiful staircase
I like the wood spindles
We like the way they turned out, too. Thank you!
Two tone is nice! I would love to see alder branches between the spindles, give it a more organic feel.
The bottom horizontal bars not lining up gets my OCD going!
Great job once again. I would do what you HAVE to do to be able to move in live with it a while and then change if you want to.
I like it just as you have it ,the stain will make it look great
Old wooden railings used to have carvings. I’m suggesting a hobby for after the construction of course.
It looks fine. I have found the more decorative spindle at lowes separated 2 and 3 inches 2 2 inch then three inch you can play around with the pattern, breaks in the straight 3 inch and is more appealing to the eye broken up. Just a thought
Hi! Would you consider a top handrail to cover the spindles? Might be a more comfortable ascent up the stairs. You've done a fabulous job on the build!!
We have the same spindles in our log home. At some point I will paint them, but honestly, they don't bother me because i display some of my Pendleton blankets on my railing. Can you get any more PNW than Pendleton? Also, I have some shelves supported by the whole stick/branch thing. They are a pain to dust & keep clean. They never look as good as they did outside, to the point they will probably go away. Just something to consider.
Looks ok, but even if you put the spindle in between the top and bottom rail , instead of outside
But think what your doing outside , cable, would look amazing inside if it’s black
Looks good, but i think a 1x6 cap put on top would look good.
I agree. I think that would finish it off nicely.
You two are so hard yourselves. The railing looks great, I think cable would not look right inside. The house would loss its vibe, of a cabin in the woods.
Should have counter sunk the spindle screws and put in wood plugs
We did countersink them. We are going back later and putting in the plugs later to finsh it.
Looking good! I would make that top 4' section of hand railing removable for ease of moving large furniture.
That’s what I’ve been telling Ryan!! Even if just for taking down the scaffolding.
It looks good, but it would have been prettier if you had used branches from your property. ❤
✌💗💗🤗
Looks good. Black or dark stain on spindles?
I love the handrails.. great job!
Are you both projektleaders?
I am too and i see the scene😀
Looks good, great job on the railing!👋👍
Any chance you put your larger furniture up in the loft prior to the railing install?
Keep up the good work guys & the videos of course ❤looks amazing ❤
Thank you Wendy!
Inspection Day 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉.
Cable railing please.
You did an awesome job! Yay
Thank you!
good job that stair well was hard job and the inspector said the water heater had to be a deciated plug and socket ?was i right or you just change to a single socket instead of the two socket you have ?
The water heater was already on a dedicated circuit as per the manufacturer recommendations. The inspector just wanted us to convert it from a duplex plug to a single so that only the WH could be plugged in.
Yes posts a different color too much wood hang a colorful large quilt or tapestry on that wall
👏🏻👋🙂🙋♂️🇩🇪🤗
A black railing would have looked good.
You are off the rails. .
Lol! We were a little kooky in this one. ha!
😂😂😂😂
Yes ma'am, do something different with the stairs. 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
It's very very ugly. Please change it ASAP
Good job people on the railing.
Congratulations on passing for your electric !! 🫂🫂🫂🫂
Please do a different railing. This looks like outdoor/deck railing and does not look like inside railings at all. I would hate for your beautiful home to look cheap due to the railings. You could do the cable railings (my fav) or a wood look but not in this style. It looks basic. I loved everything up to this point. Just being honest
Thanks for your input. We might change it in the future. We are planning to put a top rail on, which should add a more finished look to the railing.
It would be beautiful if it was metal to match there ceiling.😊
YOUR RAILING LOOKS GREAT!
I think the guy that helped yall with the metal in ur ceilings and with ur fan if he could help design a metal railing with u guys would be beautiful...Either like u have the wood or up and down another way ❤😊
The railings fit, good choice..
Go with what came with the kit
Awesome job. When does new one come out? I’m having withdrawals!
This Sunday is our next episode.
Nice very nice Gary
I vote for branches
