Tony's passing was extremely sad. He had heart surgery and he never recovered from it, spending 5 or 6 months in the hospital afterwards until he died.
I thoroughly enjoyed watching Tony Randall-as Felix Unger; and Jack Klugman-as Oscar Madison-on reruns of "The Odd Couple" since January, 1977. The original ABC prime time run was from September, 1970 to July 4'th, 1975!
OMG they are soooooo funny together. Making it all up right there. Clean and funny!!!! Johnny is so respectful of Tony and makes the interview so smooth.
The tune they played when he walked out was "Boo-Hoo" a 1937 hit for Guy Lombardo. The tune was removed from the syndicated repeat showings..Randall loved that era of tenor bands & often sang numbers from that era & did a wicked funny take offs on Carmen Lombardo & Rudy Vallee!
The Perfect Balance: The Perfect Host, the Perfect Guest, and the Perfect Audience. And, almost every night for 30 years, that Perfect Balance was achieved, or nearly so.
the song they played when he came out was one he once sang on the tonight show. he sang two or three times on here, always stuff that was pretty funny. I've looked for his singing on youtube and it's not on here. the one they played went, "boo hoo, I'll tell my mommy on you--" etc. the hokiest one went, "have a madeira, ma dear," really silly.
Randall was quite a character! Carson liked him and gave Randall lots of air-time. Great publicity. Sinatra was like that, if he liked someone, the sky was the limit. Sinatra opened the doors for hundreds of artists. Don Rickles was one of them. Their mothers became Friends, and Rickels' told Sinatra's mother, "My son os trying to make it as a Comediant, but he needs a little help. And Sinatra stood by Rickels Forever.
I couldn't imagine eating FROGS or the little amphibians too!. LOL Oh C'Mon!!! That joke was told in homage to another, great "LATE(LATE).TIME" host CRAIG FERGUSON. CBS should've paid him what he wanted!!!
Johnny didn't delve too deeply into the topic except to say most people don't need it. But beyond that, the component that stops perspiration and odor is aluminum. The armpit is sort of a nexus for veins and blood vessels; that's why the nicotine patch is placed there for wannabe quitters. Anyway, keep putting aluminum and other carcinogens there for hours, and guess what...?
No! Tony Randall wasn't gay. Perhaps he was a little bit far over too excentric and he was somewhat very theatrical in his mannerisms, but definitely not gay. In fact, Tony Randall was married to the same woman, for over 50 years and the only reason that Ed Macmahon kissed him on the cheek is simply because they had rehearsed this many times before, on the Johnny Carson show. It's a well renowned custom among men, in Europe. Even Frank Sinatra would kiss Dean Martin on a regular basis. This is showbuissness...Man!
@jeantetreault132 And a few years after losing his first wife, Tony, aged 75 married again, a 25 year old woman, 50 years younger than he. He fathered 2 children with her at the age of 77-78!
@@Doug-ip4up Of course any adult with working eyes and especially ears could tell Tony was gay, and sheesh, there's nothing wrong with that, and no one needs to defend Tony's honor. It's astonishing that in 2024 some people don't realize that marriage and children is absolutely no proof of sexuality. Also, the young woman in question giving birth is not proof that Tony fathered them.
God! Watching this clip made me realize how much I miss BOTH these guys! Oh yeah, Ed McMahon too.
Ed was unappreciated
What an American Treasure
No one like him no one - the world suffered such a loss when he passed.

@@Doug-ip4up Didn't know that - bit sadder ending than I expected. I went to his memorial service which was in a theater on Broadway.
Johnny Carson to Tony: "You really don't age." And he didn't until he died one day.

Great interview👍👍
Randall was a class act. Prefect timing.
Great show 👌 I'm enjoying.
I just picture the Brain Gremlin in place of Tony. Lol.

Look at Johnny's sport coat. Mr. Fashion. He was always a trendsetter
And Tony's tie lol
10:30 Johnny is thinking of Anne and Frank Hummert.
where are the Tony Randalls of today?

What a great joke to end the conversation with!
I remember the commercial Tony described.
Hi, do you have the episode that aired on 29 May 1990 with Jay Leno as the guest host?
Tony's personality is similar to Spock in "Star Trek".
Damn 105 times on Johnny.
Barretta had him beat
Johnn
Tony seems to be shrinking.
In comparison, Randall is Trump and Carson is Harris.
Zzzzzzzz
They're eating the pets they're eating the dogs they're eating the cats they're eating the frogs in Springfield Ohio Trump was way ahead of his time
Carson was completely wrong on deodorant/antiperspirants‼️

Garbage talk interview
My guess is that Tony Randall while being obviously gay was very particular unlike his costar Rock Hudson.

Randall was always a super-annoying bore.
Tony was a good interviewee. 😮 I didn't know that, Freddy. 😅
Tony was a great raconteur. I could listen to him indefinitely.
