  • My astronomy friend Stacey is getting married this weekend. In my intro I said they're getting married on Saturday 4th May but it's actually 5th May - I'm such a dufus! This of course means the Moon sketch is a day out. I'm a bit gutted, but they love it regardless.
I used the NASA SVS Moon phase and libration tool to look up what the exact lunar phase will be tomorrow and to make sure I got the libration correct. I downloaded the image and created a pastel drawing on black paper using Stabilo CarbOthello pastel pencils in white, grey, lamp black and black. The paper is from a black A4 sketching pad by Frisk.
I took a photograph every 8 seconds with my Canon 1100D. I had about 750 images of the process which I turned into a video using PIPP and Movie Maker. Over 2 hours work is condensed into just 3 minutes in this video.
I want to wish Stacey, Naomi and Lunar the absolute best wedding day, and wishing you the happiest married life together.
