- Well it's been a long time coming but there is now such a thing as a MAKITA CORDLESS/GASLESS FRAMING NAILER!!! Some said it couldn't be done, well this week at World of Concrete in Las Vegas, the new Makita DBN901 Framer was shown off. The US model number is the XNB04. This is a 21° Nailer with the 30° Framing Nailer being the DBN900 or XNB03 in the US.
It's been a long wait... let's hope it was worth it.
Cheers @EliotTruelove for some info.

Good stuff Tools, loved the ah fuck it transition. You've generally been responsible for a tonne of people getting into the 40v line, myself included. I hope Makita recognise you in some way / are able to get you free tools in the same way some other channels do
Guy’s like the Makita mpv 😂
@@aronthomas8018 he is Makita Jesus and these videos are his gospels
He was waiting for the UA-cam time limit on swearing. Golden moment.
That's only 7 seconds now.
Yes I’m included in that tonne…
My allegiance to the 40v Makita line I credit to you my friend. Such an awesome line of tools 🤘
Came for the framing nailer.
Now I have a strap for both my Makita inflator pump.
From Japan. Hate it when the postage is more expensive than the product. Atleast now I don’t have to use zip ties.
Thanks Mr Tools for the bonus info
The charging macpac looks awesome!!!
I'd love to see a head to head with the new Makita framer and the Milwaukee fuel. I've seen the Milwaukee in action and it was fantastic.
I would add the Metabo/Hikoki to that competition
Did you guys watch the video? If so, you've seen all the nail guns I've got, of course I'm gonna put the Makita up against them all.
My brother in law has a home building company. He owns 9 Milwaukee framing nailers. He says they need to go in to get fixed quite a bit
@@ToolsAndStuffOFFICIAL I hope you can get the new DeWalt in the lineup too
Can not move on still waiting for a cordless Table saw😢
Im too.
Me too
Finally thank you tools a damn nailer. Cant wait for you to get it.
Looking forward to the nailer. Had to go for the bicep-busting Milwaukee fuel with a Makita battery in the meantime so will be interesting to check out when it comes.
Great video tools. I'm looking forward to when the 40 volt nailer comes out and how it compares to the Milwaukee as cost will be a factor
Too late for me with the nailer; I now run the Milwaukee with Makita batteries. Naughty but nice. Heavy but excellent.
I like the idea of self servicing though...
Hey mate, what do you mean by using makita batteries on the milwaukee gun? am i missing something?
dont worry i just found out that you can get adaptors lol
Yeah, precisely!
Forget the nailer … where’s the 1/2 inch cordless router??? Makita !! 😅
Dont know if it is wroth it , Hikoki 1/2 router is hard to find , it is just one those tools that eats batteries and add no benefit being cordless.
Got to try it out, it works as good as my Milwaukee, and felt lighter!
Tell us more, tell us more...
The Makita guys said it’ll be released in August
So I’ll be ditching my Milwaukee
Awesome, the Milwaukee is too heavy for busy work a lighter battery nailer is exactly what is needed. I still use my paslode for this reason.
It's 10.9 lbs with a 5 amp battery, the Milwaukee is 9.4 lbs bare tool.
It may feel better or be slightly better balanced, but it's about as apples to apples as you can get in that regard. It's certainly not going to resemble a pneumatic or a Paslode.
August is when we can expect it in Australia according to my rep. He said they'd tried pushing to get it for tax time but had no luck.
I have lots of Mikita gear but ended up getting a Hikoki nailer, and it really good. Now I have got quite a few of the Hikoki tools on their multi volt platform and they are not bad ( 1/2” router, impact driver, )
In my own shop I mostly have Makita, but on site we use a couple Hikoki tools and a agree 💯% with you. The multivolt system is pretty neat and the tools are solid and accurate.
Held out as long as I could, but bought a framing and finishing Milwaukee nailers in December during a pretty damn good sale. So now Ive got mostly 18v Makita, some 40v Makita, 3 specific Dewalt tools, and several Milwaukee 18v now.
Don't you hate that? I started out over 20 years ago with the old blue Ryobi NiCad and then a couple years later started switching over to Dewalt XRP and then the Milwaukee V28 band saw came out and so on and so on and I've never been able to get it back down to one battery platform like the good old days with Ryobi. Now I'm on the same 4 platforms as you.
You can get battery adapters... Milwaukee nailer on Mak batteries kicks the arse of Paslode!
Is your DEWALT tools a table saw and cirular 7 1/4?
@@juliosoto5743 No. 60v air compressor, telescoping pruning pole and SDS drill.
Thanks for the great and honest Kiwi reviews. Kiwi DIY enthusiast living in Japan. Long time viewer, first time commentor.
Not that I need ( but do want 😅) the framer nailer, but glad it’s coming. I was doing some research as to why no battery powered framing nailers in Japan. According to Japanese firearms law a battery powered nailer (of certain power ratings) is considered a firearm weapon and therefore banned in Japan. Air powered nailers exempt from this law I am assuming because of their lack of mobility.
Will never see this framing nailer in Japan but look forward to trying one when back in NZ following its release.
Thanks for the great content and good honest Kiwi commentary.
Let me know if you need any additional channels for product purchasing support etc.
So how come Hitachi (now Hikoki) was the first to make a cordless non-butane framing nailer?
They don't sell them in Japan.
I wish they made a charging station like at 8:38 but meant so you could charge it outside in the elements far away from a inhabited structure.
Thanks for adding to the excitement as always mate. Need to wear out my hikoki now. 😅😅
Still waiting for the nailer. Glad to hear you can pump it up. What would be killer is if you could interchange the degree magazine. And of course it needs to be strong enough to sink the nails flush and not slow you down too much.
ordered the trigger lock... thanks for the link
Still want the 40V multi tool, only as I use one soo often at work.
It's coming...
It's about time! I was literally about to buy a Milwaukee nailer
Me too.
Same glad i waited
Just waiting on a cable stapler tool now from Makita.
Not too excited about a framing nailer (sorry). However video justified by the velco trigger control for the inflated - ordered one straight away.
When u mentioned the backpack batterys i was thinking why they dont just make a back pack that fits 2 or 4 8ah XGT battery's on it i would buy that it would work great for outdoor power equipment and i could still use the big battery's in other things like a vacuum or lawn mower ect would give more use out of the big battery's.
Now all that's left is to wait for a cordless belt sander
Haha definitely
And cordless rotex
1/2 router, table saw
Also need a cordless 16 5/16 inch beam saw!
@@kizzjd9578yeah, a fully supported rotex equivalent would be the tits, I'd jump on that before a belt sander. Only problem is both a rotex and belt sander would be so friggin battery hungry, like an angle grinder. They also need a mains adapter, because there's situations where you really need to run that type of tool at high wattages for long periods of time.
They already have the gear driven polisher in 18v so it's not much of a leap.
Have you got the nailer yet?
Go away
@@ToolsAndStuffOFFICIALnow? It’s been like 11 whole days!?!?😂
30° nail guns are more popular than the 21° in the U.S.
yeah makita WE WANT Batteries to power the inverter! This case for 8 ah would be great if it could reverse power stuff with the inverter!
The image was a bit grainy but it looks like the DBN901 might be made in Japan (?)
Super happy i got into makita xgt platform few years ago, excited for the future.
WOC 2024.
Is my Disneyland.
Now just need a decent 16 and 18Ga nailgun
Yeah I recon, the milwalkie goes good. Wouldn’t mind something better
I think almost all of the Milwaukee nailer, especially the 2nd gen ) are really good. And I can recommend to anyone! I have 3 ( Framing, 15ga and the 18ga crown ) and I would even buy 2 more. I miss just one model from Milwaukee .. cordless roofing nailer like the DeWalt one.
Hi.Nice vid as always. Id love to have a Makita nailer since i'm on the makita platform. I've been using the milwaukee since my paslode died 3years ago. Only drawback as everybody knows is the weight. So if the Makita is not lighter than that then there is no advantage. Winner of the race will be whoever can make a gasless nailer that's as light as paslode!
Looks more compact than hikoki framer, maybe hikoki will start updating their guns.
Hopefully, the compact Brad nailer is so nice and tiny compared to the old version. Definitely need that on every nailer especially the finish nailers
I have the new brad nailer it's probably the best cordless 18g nailer lighter then milwaukee works well just trimed out a house with it. Only issue with it is if you need to nail on a angle you can only angle it on in direction. Towards the top of the gun if you angle to the side it won't sink the nail properly
Unfortunately Hikoki (and Metabo - by which I mean Real Metabo) are owned by KKR Holdings who are just a buy low, sell high company. They have no interest in developing either brand. They tried to sell 1-2 years ago, but failed. There's unlikely to be any major progress by either brand, just cost cutting to make a sale more attractive.
@toolscientist Send me a DM on insta, I want to send you something.
@ToolsAndStuffOFFICIAL I didn't get a notification for this. Lucky I came back to stalk you. I'll send a message now, if I can figure out how to do so 😂
We need a 18v coil nailer would be a fencers dream
FARKINNN ELL WHEN I SAW THE TITLE I BLEW ME LOAD!
10.9lbs with 5ah makes it heavier than the hikoki with 5ah if I'm not mistaken. I thought that all that time they spent dawdling and releasing impact driver after impact driver might mean they would bring the lightest gasless framing nailer. But alas. At least it's finally here.
A few years ago I received a Makita pneumatic finish nailer as part of a promotion when I bought their 12” slider. I used the gun for less than an hour when it started jamming. I have tried to fix it, but it won’t cooperate. I belong to several Fb woodworking groups, and when I posted the issue, several people said they had the same problem. I don’t have a repair center anymore as the man retired and closed up shop. Not sure what to do about it, or even bother. Not happy.
Which nailer are you talking about?
@@bartfoster1311 If you need the model number, I can get it for the next time I'm in the shop. Not sure if that will be today or early next week.
Oh the excitement 🤪 bet you’ll be going nail crazy!!! Hope the elbow holds out 😝
I’m just ready to toss my Milwaukee one in the garbage as soon as this one hits the shelves.
Funny enough the Ryobi is probably one of the best if not the best of the bunch. Hoping to hear Makita has taken it up a notch though. They need another win to keep relevant. The impact wrench was a good one, and the blower from last year was great too. 2 more wins I think will keep them going strong.
I’m switching to Milwaukee because of makita just taking to long!!
If only theyd unveiled this gun last year, i invested in the milwaukee batteries and nail guns back in November
Cheers for the credit, this is an awesome video and a long time coming.
I have that inflator trigger thatbworks for my first gen stick vacuum marginally well (bigger trigger) i can only imagine how convenient it would be for the inflators.
As for other potential tools:
With the US Consumer Safety Commision discussing changes on Table saws, Makita seems to ne vindicated for pulling out of the US market years ago, hopefully theyve been sitting on designs and patents.
Now that we know that patents do mean something:
the 40v Multitool is likely coming soon, maybe next WOC.
Same with Belt sander in 18 and 40v.
And potentially the new storage system, although may still be a ways off given both the adapter and XGT battery box are Macpack style.
The macpac boxes are really crap. I have 3 and the 2 that came with my tracksaw are completely busted. If they fall a few feet they will completely bust apart.
I know plumbers who got the 40x2 concrete saw and while its handy for not making noise and smoke inside when doing cuts for bathroom say the dual charger can't keep up with the tool. So that pack needs to charge more then 2 at a time or else its a bust, but even then...8x8.0 and that charger is going to add $1k to each quote going forward.
Sort of glad the 18v nailer is first...let people buy and use it, if it holds up and is not a lemon I will consider the 40v version (unless I ditch it all together because the QC is trash). Right now I am considering team red even if I need the extra battery/charger in the tool box (no different to using the paslode and its dumb little charger)
You can always buy an adaptor to put Makita batteries on the Milwaukee nailers.
@@ToolsAndStuffOFFICIAL For the size I rather pay extra and use those high output 3.0ahs. Made a difference when I tried a gun with it after using that same gun on a 5.0 for a while.
The Makita mag holder looks longer also which I love if it means you can hold a decent amount of nails and still reload, Milwaukee's worst thing was how small the mag size is.
Thanks for the strap tip!
I secretly hope they are working on an EV conversion kit that uses everyone's abandoned LXT batteries. My 1973 Corolla is almost the exact same color as Makita blue and would make a sweet Makita LXT car.
I use air nailers for framing nail period.
Since im makita 18v only...I painted my Milwaukee to look makita... did not know about the shooting flat thing
1:15 "But, but, but, greatest country on earth, man on the moon, yee-haw"
UFB!
Finally, Hallelujah! 😜🤗😁
Now start bugging them about a bloody 40 volt XGT cordless table saw before we die of old age! Somebody PLEASE!
It's on my constant nag loop.
Yes this they could make a really cool 80v saw like a bigger version of the festool cordless table saw.
Wonder if you could buy one 21 degree nailer & a optional 30 degree magazine & swap them as required??🤔
Top work Mate, long time listener, first time caller...Any recent info on Makita packout dropping in Aus/NZ soon?
Not yet
Makita made a framing gun years ago it really was a pasloade dressed in makita colors. It works great I have used mine for years.
Yes, but not a battery only, no gas Framing Nailer.
Everyone forgets that Makita has had a cordless framing gun for years. GN900SE I’ve had it for about 15 odd years. While yes it’s gas and a different battery but it’s been one hell of a gun and still running it daily
WELL ITS ABOUT TIME 😂
There is some nails sticking out now. Wonder what it will be like with LVL
This was in LVL. Two 1 3/4" pieces. The nails that didn't set were usually the last 2-3 from a set where a full strip was put behind it
One month left!
Any idea when the Dtd173 will be available in Europe? Its been a while already haha..
Too late, I purchased a ryobi nail gun last week 😢 would have loved to get makita instead
Just sell it when the Makita shows up.
It has been 9hrs. Do you have the nailer yet?
DHL just dropped off a 6 pack.
Holy shit finally!!!!
Never thought id say this but the Ryobi inflator/deflator is better than the Makita one 😅
I use alot of makita tools and love them but they seriously dropped the ball on there cases and storage... I'm waiting patiently for them to come out with a Milwaukee style packout system
Hey Tools, just a quick one, could you do a video about the Makita 10.8v lineup? It’s pretty much Makita’s answer to Milwaukee M12. Cheers brother 🍻🍻
The only reason the 21 degrees are sold in the US is because of Is Bostige or stanley, they want you to buy there nails
Where is the 40v 1/2 inch router or table saw? Makita need to catch up. It’s hard being a makita fan and seeing other brands with the tools I want
...including 40V multitool and impact driver with ringlight.
That’s the reason why I have half of my tools from Milwaukee. Because Makita doesn’t have them in their portfolio. I’m normally a Makita user and I would like to buy or use only one tool brand. But Makita is behind all the other brands. Yeah if my Milwaukee tools breaks down and Makita has the same tool I would prefer to buy and use Makita.
How dare you cheat on Makita with a damn Ryobi!!!! 😂😂😂😂 seriously though can’t wait for this nailer here in the UK
Looks like my GN900SE is going in the bin..
Hope Makita do a powerful fixed router for 18v and 40v
Finally! Looks compact, hope it flies. The brad nailer was atrocious
Have you got the nailer yet?
I’ve just been told by my makita rep. We won’t get it until 2025 in Australia. I nearly threw up!🤮
Booo that sucks
Hey, can you please do a review on the VC4201 vacuum/ dust extractor.
Don't makita already have a framing nail gun based on the paslode nail gun the makita gn900se
Yes... but it requires gas and is rubbish.
What’s that black impact/drill thing in the background??
I knew it wouldn't be long until someone asked that... review soon.
Is it an impact driver? Is it a drill?? I guess we’ll have to wait and see
Haha cheers mate look forward to finding out 👍🏼

@@ToolsAndStuffOFFICIALI’ve got the old version from 13ish years ago. Got it in Canberra. I think it still works if I can lay my hands on it in the shed somewhere.

Stuff the framing nailer, what's that grass/lawn trimmer gizmo in the background? Seriously though, what is that!? ;-)
That was the review that was supposed to go out tonight but at the last minute I bumped it for this.
Its like a hedge trimmer. I guess designed for narrow lawns / nature strips.
@@whya2ndaccount Somewhat like some farm machinery I've seen. Done similar with my hedge trimmer and grass when I could be bothered getting the lawnmower out for a small bit of grass that needed doing.😊
10.9lbs with a 5ah I read earlier
Have you got the nailer yet😂
Do you think Bosch will ever make a cordless framer? Thanks for the vids
Yes. Not far away.
Interesting, bit different technology to the others maybe. Cheers mate
That looks sweeet. Any news on a cordless 1/2 router?
nice video as always!! wait tho will that charging box be available in 18v too :O
Dude! The wood theses days all cracked and full of bark
It took me way too far into the video to realize that it's 18v. I thought for sure it'd be 40v and just assumed 4 and a half minutes through the video that it was 40v and never even looked at the battery.
Where is the 40v multi tool! I have to keep 18v batteries in my car still for the multi tool everything else I have is 40v now
They better have a 40v version
It will come later, not sure where I read that, but it will.
But that will take maybe one year more .. the 18v comes in roughly 6 months on the market here in North America .. a d then I will see the comparisons tests before I make a decision. And so long I use my Milwaukee nailer.
I bought a metabo hpt brad nailer the gen 2 it's great little tool
Have you got the nailer yet?
😂🤣😂🤣🤣😂
When is it available in the UK?
YEEEEEHAWWWW FINALLY
Nothing better than the paslode pneumatic gun. I have the Milwaukee and DeWalt gun but they aren't as good as the paslode. Not the impulse gun tho, that gun sucks
Gun looks amazing. We won’t get bump fire tho right down under?
Probably not. Even though technically there is no law against it. Hopefully they sell both like Milwaukee.
Why wouldn’t we? My hikoki has it (Australia)
He means NZ. Companies make non bump fire models for NZ.
Odd not 40v. I’m sure be one, but odd not first
Im assuming the answer is yes, but does that strap switch work on the 40v pump?
The eBay advert says 18v
I don’t remember there being a difference between the 18 & 40v switch location/design. Gave the 18v to dad.
The hardest part about this framing nailer news is il likely have to hold out to see if the 40v is any better than the 18v. I figure iv been rocking the paslode for years now in wait for a Makita, I might as well wait a little more to get the right one.
Murphy’s Law states I will be screwed if I don’t wait for the 40v comparison & then be stuck with a lesser model. Or il wait an extra year for the 40v for it to work exactly the same as the 18v🤦🏼♂️
Works fine on all of them 12v, 18v, 40v
Why is makita so far behind on some of these tools. A few years ago I had to get a milwaukee grease gun because makita was 3-4 years slower than everyone else
Works both ways. Milwaukee were the last to make a track saw and Mower.
15g brad nailer as well?
