- A truly gorgeous Star Wars cockpit. This is in superb condition! Made in 1983 this legendary machine is still fantastic to play. There's a look around and then two games. You can tell how much you get into the game by my reaction at dying on the death star in the first game. I literally throw myself forward. The game makes you feel like you're there! AWESOME!
The sound this game made when you sat in the cockpit! I though & felt amazing as a kid, the hairs on the back of my neck stand up now, listening to this! Thank you, kind regards Richard U.K
I remember the first time I found this game. It was a revelation compared to the likes of Space Invaders. For the first time, it felt like really flying a spacecraft. Even in these days of fully rendered 3D, these vector graphics look beautiful.
I only played the stand up version, and I thought *that* was immersive. Didn’t even know this seated style existed! It’s a fantastic game. Wow!
If I could afford to collect arcades, this would be the first one I would buy.
Absolutely! There's two stand outs, this and the first WRC rallying. 🐕
This takes me back , one of the finest arcade games ever . I'd love to be able to play this beauty again .
You can now buy a 1up Arcade version for 500
I played this game for 11 hours straight from the moment the arcade opened until it closed on a single quarter, 81 million points, boy did I have to take a leak!!! Loved this game, so cool to see a functional unit still around.
I remember being in awe the first time I saw that game in our local arcade 😮 Shame today's kids don't get to have the same and just get console and PC games. Kinda feel honoured to have grown up during the arcade generation.
Cyklon 1 you and me both! I'm (cough) 43 (cough) and it was a great time back in the day. Atari 2600 was at home for when I ran outta quarters in the arcade. 😂
43 as well 😂
We still got some pretty kick-ass arcade games. I grew up in the 90’s and the Star Wars Trilogy Arcade was probably one of the best games out there. Now the kids have the new Star Wars Battle Pod. Still good, but it can’t compare to the older ones. I still think Trilogy Arcade was the best one, but that’s just me.
21 and I played on this when I was younger and loved it to pieces, always have a place in my heart
I was born in ‘03 and don’t get me wrong, as part of a new generation, arcade games are still fun for me. There is a arcade place a hour from where I live with hundreds of rare games and can be played coin free for one price. They had a stand up cabinet version of this but had a sit down version of Missile Command which is very fun. While I play a Xbox and PC I do have good feelings with arcade games old and new.
One of my top 5 arcade memories as an 80s kid, always felt so cool playing this while some younger wide eyed kid watched from the side like you were a hero!
❤❤❤ I haven't seen one of these in at least 28 years!!!
I was 10 the last time I saw one
OMG!!!!!!!!! ❤❤❤🤘🤘🤘🤘
Same here
I can hear your breathing dude. That's how I am with video games. Well done on your playing and making me feel like I was panicking in an exhilarating rush with you.
I certainly remember when this game came out , the stand up one I mean , this version was usually in the larger arcades and some places had the balls to get 50 cents a play , whereas the stand up version was just a quarter . Nice video and thanks for sharing.
Just got my Star Wars arcade1up with the bench today for Christmas from my awesome wife! Already putting together cockpit for it using pvc, plexi glass and a little imagination!
I’m 15 years old with parents in my 40s. I live about a hour away from a place with hundreds of rare arcade games. I found a sit down version of Missile Command, and at the same place I found a stand up cabinet of this game. As part of a generation with consoles and PCs I play myself, I can imagine how revolutionary this game was with sketchy 3D graphics in a cabin like this that can probably withstand games today. I want to see one of these and try it, hard to find, but it would probably be my favorite arcade game if it was in a cabin like this.
If I ever win the lottery...
I absolutely love this game. My favourite arcade machine of all time!
I so agree! Kind regards Richard U.K
There was one of these in the back corner of an arcade in Talacre where we were on holiday when I was 10 (circa 1986), Once I'd found it, you didn't see me for the rest of the holiday.
One of my fave arcade games from the good old days blew me away when i first stood behind looking through the viewers window!
Only talking about this classic at work today, oh how i'd love to own one!! brings back a lot of memories for me as a child. By far the the greatest arcade game of all time!!
I remember playing the hell out of this game on the Boblo boat way back in the day. They also had the same set up at the local arcade around the corner from my house. The one on the Boblo boat had a chair that would swivel though. Like you were in the Starfighter. The good ol days..
I played this once as a kid. I only wished I had unlimited quarters. The quarter experience and retro purity. I can tell the sound is so 80s swell and controls, I bet it smells vintage in there like a vintage car.
Going inside that cabinet as a kid back in the day made me feel like a X-Wing pilot. Damn, that was so awesome. :)
So true! You and me both
Oh man great memories of playing always a crowd watching when playing this. If I ever start a collection this would be my first...I gonna start saving.
fozziebear26 Being good enough to get an audience was a plus. I remember the Dragons Lair game was so hard to master, when someone was good, you paid for their next game just so you could see the end.
a true arcade classic from atari absolute gold that machine is
This takes me back!! The queues to play this back in the day was mad! You just felt like you were there! Happy days they were indeed! :)
Wow I used to love playing this as a young teenager. Cheers for upload
One of the most memorable things about playing this was the rock-hard seat. 100% wood, very comfy.
Loved this game as a kid , it was in our local arcade here in Hawkes Bay , New Zealand , I never got past the 1st trench run😁
this takes me way back to sitting on my mom's lap playing this. I thought this was the best game ever.
I loved this game back in the 80s!
What a gem! This is a game that people would gather around. Thanks for sharing
I couldn't play it but I did love this sit down cabinet - like being in an early VR.
So true!
i remember playing this wonderful game way back when i was a kid .... still remember how to play it ...lol
I first saw one of these in 1983 in a Soho London arcade called 'Las Vegas' i was only young and i had to travel to London on my Lunch-money when i should of been at school... but once seen, never forgotten.
One of the best memories of my childhood!
I remember playing this game on vacation at Disney quest. I was so bummed out the day it was closed off
Yes, it's not too rare. I remember many sit down games, (Turbo, Pole Position, etc), and even Disco of Tron (not "sit down", but similar)...I loved them. You'd be in a packed, loud, crowded arcade, & you'd get into a sit down.....Immediately the clatter or coins, talking & digital sounds would noticeably subsided. When you started the game, it's speakers (often located behind your head), drowned out the renaming arcade noise. You were almost completely encapsulated by the game/it's confines.
They had one of the machines in a Disney-owned hotel in Anaheim. It must have been 1995 Anime Expo when I played in a sitdown Star Wars (1983) game. That's when they STILL had arcades as a thing in the US.
I stole one of these with my uncle back in 1984 from a local fairground ! Caused a lot of trouble and a few people got badly hurt ! Those were the days
Simply brilliant! Lol kind regards Richard U.K
They had this game at the Daytona Mall arcade which was located right across from the Daytona Six Movie Theaters next to what was then a store called "Zayres" which was a predecessor to WalMart in Daytona Beach right on Nova Rd. It was a great arcade in it's day and this was a very popular game that they actually charged 50 cents because it was considered a "premium" game due to being able to sit down. Those were the days. It was the all time highlight of the video game age! Memories....
Kids today don't understand just how cool this game was. When we were kids, we didn't want to be Jedi Knights swinging lightsabers around- we wanted to blow away TIE's and this game made that happen.
Some of us wanted to be the TIE Fighters......and then TIE Fighter came along....
I’m a Gen Z kid and really love old school arcade games like these. Technically the modern version of this game is the Star Wars Battle Pod, it’s fun but not as revolutionary as this.
Wasn't there a bigger sit down version of this made? I feel bad that kids these days haven't got cool arcades like we did when we were young. Arcades were exciting places to be when I was a kid.
I think it looked bigger cos some of the arcades had a bodykit type thing on them.
Early during my time in the Navy, about 1987, we had one of these in the barricks lounge. I pumped a lot of quarters into that machine.
I remember being 12 years old playing this game at the Arcade
Used to have one of these at the Chuck E Cheese in Calgary in the mid 80's - wanted to go there just to play this!
i remember playing both standup and sit down versions.
the sit down versions of the arcade games where more fun but also they were more expensive to play.
This machine has been well looked after!
Nice Star Wars environmental clean!
Those yokes can take some hammer ;) good effort sir
amaizng memories of this cabinet in arcades
no matter how you emulate this it will never look as good as it does on a real vector monitor!
Is this one emulated because I have a real one and it does not play a demo mode like that?
''You can tell how much you get into the game by my reaction at dying''
*Fist through screen*
Awesome piece of history gone ><
wish i could afford this!
I sat in that cockpit so many times!
Same here!
*****
If I could have all those coins back, I could probably buy one now.
I Rembrandt playing this game in the arcade in downtown Fredericton New Brunswick in the 80s. It was really cool. I'd love to have it but the chances of ever being able to own it would almost nil :(
The Greatest Game As A Teenager,,, Amazin 👍
Barcade in Jersey City,NJ has this. I was able to play it and it seemed like everything was working fine.
Considering that home computers had games like Blue Max at the time, this is pretty phenomenal.
Look at the size of that thing
Life goal to own one of these
Make sure you turn them off when you leave the house. The circuit boards have been known to set on fire if the machine is left too long in attraction mode.
Also I have an original set of atari game boards(working when last tried). There are a set of 3 and you just plug them in.Very rare if anyone wants them.
I remember skipping school just because want to play this, my parent caught me on the arcade and kick my ass.
I used to play this version at SHOWBIZ PIZZA PLACE in Pasadena Ca back in the 80's. I played the stand up version at 7-11 down the street from my school.
I want to find the crazy rare variant that you sit in and it moves you 360 as you play the game. I played it at Circus Circus in 1985 or 1986.
Still in great condition!
Ah back when Vector graphics hit big. Every game that came out for a while had them.
I beat this game at a modern art museum exhibit. Lol
got it,playin it last night!
I was playing few times that version as a kid. huge emotions, but It was too hard for me.
@thatbastardson Yea......damn it.....I forget the name. Oh....Star Wars: Arcade (1993)? It was ported to the Sega Genesis/32X. Is that it? There was also Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back arcade game, with vectored graphics & game play similar to this game.
i want a Sonic Blastman arcade machine to beat senseless. they are so rare. ahhh!!
I bought one of these for £50 . . . played it to death in the garage
It's so rare that its a local arcade
The cockpit Star Wars really isn't as rare as you might think. It's just highly sought after, which makes it more pricey than the stand up model.
I remember seeing 2 of these at Disneyland only time I ever played them in the mid 1980's was in my teens. Lived about 10 miles from there had a yearly pass parents would drop us off for the day. Glad I grew up in the classic years of video games not that today's video games aren't great but not the same as it was then. Back in those days coin-op video games were using latest technology in electronics they didn't have the processing power we have today the electronic engineering was amazing. arcadeblogger.com/2017/06/16/atari-star-wars-arcade-cockpit-development/
I'M GOING IN!!!
Even I can hear OB1 saying, Use the force DAMIT!!!!!! You suck at this. WTF????
In Houston there was a line and a crowd at Scoops and Games for the sit down version. Only to be 15 again and have a pocket full of quarters.

+alex arellano Back in the 80's it was the golden age of arcade game cabinets. Me and my friends spent evenings playing those hits in the arcades. I miss those days...

Similar style to tempest
its on nintendo gamecube
no there isnt
Yes it is, all 3 are on Rouge squadron rebel strike. Star wars, empire, and ROTJ. It's unlockable via codes.
Never mind I looked it up

Arcade 1up sucks lol
Rare? Meh. Not really.
