Sure thing! Glad I could help answering that for you. But yea you definitely don’t need to unmount any attached device… as a matter of fact there’s no way to do that 😂. Just unplug and go! But to be on the safe side, I still will recommend to close out the files app when you’re done just in case… that’s just me being paranoid though 😅
To be honest and completely transparent: Not really. iCloud is so seamless, fast, and accessible I personally cannot do without it… especially for my productivity. I recommend these devices are for “backup” purposes and nothing else, where you want to keep your important files, pictures, videos, etc… offline and to be used elsewhere. It also makes it a lot easier to copy and share files between ecosystems such as from iOS in apple devices to Android and Windows PC. So I would say these devices are supplemental and depends on your use case and not so much as a “replacement” for iCloud.
I have an iPhone 14 Pro and want to export all my ProRAW photos onto a SanDisk SSD. After transferring the ProRAW photos via the Apple USB Hub, do the files retain the DNG file (ProRAW)?
@@sva9629 as long as you select “save to files” and navigate to the drive then it will copy the file in it’s original Raw format with all original data in tact
Correct. You can also see the older original video I did on the topic when I used an iPhone 14 Pro Max with the lightning port: ua-cam.com/video/iNR6uxytdas/v-deo.html
@@KamaniBrown oh I have another question..A girl said she doesn't use the dongle/adapter. She just uses a regular charging cable (lightning to USB) and plugs that into her usb hub. Then she plugs her SSD into the hub. She says it works without the adapter. That should work right?
@@laurieclarkson9180 yes it will work, but it will be much slower. It's bad enough that the lightning port is capped to USB 2.0 speeds, the cable makes it even worse, and adding a USB hub to the mix is just another link in the chain making the process even slower. However, if time isn't a factor for you and you already have a usb hub, then go for it! I'm all about saving money once it's worth it to you.
Unfortunately no. Your phone will have to be unlocked. iPhones by default are encrypted when locked. Your files app provides root level access to your files and storage devices locally on your phone and iCloud so you cannot access it without unlocking your device.
Yes you can copy your iCloud notes to an external storage device using the same method. Text messages however will vary depending on the type of messaging app/service you use… if you are speaking specifically about iMessage, then I don’t think you can. I will research this though.

How do you avoid the change of date that happens to the file copies? I really like the method, but I stopped when I realized the date and time changed to the date and time of “transfer.”
@@Vivi-o8v the thing is that when you transfer using the method shown in the video, you are creating copies so yes the date will be as of current time, with the benefit being that they are copied over as the universally known and used JPEG format. However, to get the same date and time, you will need to do a 1:1 direct copy. To do this you will have to use the other method which is to select the files and then select “save to files” instead of “copy”, and then save it to your external device. This will create a 1:1 copy and preserve all the date, time, and other settings, however it will also retain the original file format (HEIF for images) which may not play nice on all devices without an extra step of converting them or installing drivers or softwares that can read that format.
I bought the PNY DUO LINK iOS USB 3.0 OTG Flash Drive that has a lighting connector and it worked great when I had the iPhone 13 Pro Max. However I upgraded to the iPhone 15 pro max and it can’t connect to it. I spent a lot of money on the flash drive and I love the futures on it. Is there a way to use the PNY DUO LINK iOS USB 3.0 OTG Flash Drive on IPhone 15 pro max or will I have to get another flash drive. If so, what do you recommend. Thanks for your help.
Thanks for tuning in! Well first of all I feel your pain, it was the same with me when I upgraded to the 15 Pro Max... had to invest in new solutions for data management. But getting straight to it, for your situation, the most cost effective way I've found is to use a lightning to USB-C adapter such as this 1: amzn.to/4dh8vjP to "daisy-chain" the Duo Link to the 15 Pro Max. That should do the trick, otherwise, I've recommended a few solid and fast usb-c 3.1 Gen 2 flash drives (that work perfect with the 15 Pro Max) in my description and pinned comment that you can check out. Hope this helps! 🍻
I would like to keep the videos at the same quality I recorded them on. They’re videos and highlights from my son boxing so I want to keep the resolution good, so if you can recommend me a nice setup. The price isn’t really a issue. Thank you for all the help, wishing your mother a speedy recovery.
When you copy over pictures and videos as shown in this particular video, they will be copied over in the original format and resolution. As for the setup, simply use the Lightning to usb or lightning to SD card reader adapters as shown in the video (listed in description), and copy the videos to the sd card or usb flash drive using the same method as shown. The method is the same regardless of your chosen storage device and you can’t go wrong with either one. If there’s something you don’t quite understand or having difficulties with, please don’t hesitate to ask here. Thanks for the well wishes bro I really appreciate it 🍻.
