88 but born and raised in Humboldt Park potomac and Rockwell sing word for word for years and still bumping this shit showing these new niggas the chi town anthem
I'm 40 and remember when this song dropped in the mid-90s. That's when a lot of old school Chicago Hip Hop was on mixtapes and sold in the mall. Psychodrama, Do or Die, etc. Back then, everything the song was talking about was more relevant. But in the 25 years since it dropped, the city has changed. A lot of the OGs and dudes running shit got locked up or killed. They done tore down the projects like the Rob Taylors, Stateway, Cabrini, etc. And the south burbs like Harvey, Dolton, Cal City, Riverdale, and the Heights have gotten more hood. Yeah, dudes still claim GD or BD or Moes or VL...but it's all broken by hoods like in Cali. As an old school dude, just wanna drop by and show love to a true Chicago classic. Chicago has never gotten a chance to tell it's hood story via music, movies, like California. The story of Chicago's hood is worth telling.
I guess that is what the Chicago Drill Music scene did. I guess it was the Chicago Gangster rap scene was in the late 2000's through the 2010's. L.A.'s gangster rap was in the late 80's and 90's. I wonder how many Chi gangs in L.A. We know the Stones is out there, with what they called the Blood Stones & T. Rodgers. I wonder if the GD, BD, VL, LK, or any other original Chi-town set is out in L.A.?
This might be the best song repping Chicago gangs ever. This is a masterpiece. I live in Chicago and this lets you know all about the city's gangs. I can never just listen to this once, always on repeat.
+Ernie Diaz idk why he left the Latinos out but it is a Latino version to this song too. Every time I listen to this I play the Latino version right after lol
This is still a Classic.. I used to listen this in the morning on the King Drive, and 71st street bus before school.. Helped me get my mental straight so nobody could snake me.. City was FULL of lurkers. Shiiid, it still is.. Respect to the brotha DA Smart ✊
get a job u bums stop ruining neighborhoods n killing innocent people n children low key yall dont even know all that drug money you making cops take it when you get caught n buy themselves new cars while the government makes 30k a year off you while you rot in prison
meet this gentleman at star bar in chicago, this guy is legit down to earth. his being is so super natural, reality in clutch mode, when it for the city of CHI. D.A. when on stage to kill the night while being the first one to go up and bring the crowd to the floor. I doubt i'll ever forget this along with the rest of us that was there.
beef tuff i think the reason they tore the high rise projects down was to cause more shootings move gangs out everywhere in the chi mayor daily had it from the global elites later for NWO take over gun control government takes our guns no guns and government can control us without us defending ourselves i think that’s the real reason they tore them down
I 1st heard this song in 1999. Threw crazy house parties with this track and till this day I can't let it go. I repeat it like 5-6 times STRAIGHT b4 I gotta force myself to change it. Luv this song with a passion. Feelin the message all day. (Brings me back) Wish I could find this album so I don't have to UA-cam it.
Rite of passage as a 7-4. March through OPP territory at night unarmed. Many get gunned down. So bad County got sued. They had to stop late night releases. Lol. Yup. Then when you get on the train, everyone collaborates to get squares, liquor, and some weed. Right there on the train. Like I said, if you know, you know ...
I wish and pray every day that there's a reset button on rap music, and we go all the way back to theate 80s and early 90s rap!!!!! Nothing will EVER compare to the music and rap groups from 1987-2001

This track was always ahead of its time, shoutout DA SMART for educating, dropping logic and knowledge. Born in 90, but first heard this when I was a shorty and was always intrigued by the execution and intricacy of the lyrics. It depicted absolutely every facet of the Chi, and it resonated with me on a personal level. I was forced to understand the layout of this land as a youngin, which set reps/claims what and whom, because of the typical stereotype and label attached to me, stripping me of my own identity because I’m of Middle Eastern descent/Arab. Even though I was born and raised in the Chi. And that target got even bigger post 9/11. All because my family/people own stores everywhere in Chicago, East side, West side, South side, in the heart of Cabrini (granted it ain’t as bad as it once was ever since they tore down damn near 95% of it) Moral of this post, doesn’t matter who you are, what you are, where you’re from, respect goes a long way, and it isn’t given unless it’s mutual, if it isn’t reciprocated, struggle is inevitable. We all share a common goal that should unite us, SURVIVAL. Still an iconic track even in 2019. All love.
