Just a couple points I wanted to add:
When Hasan asked about whether he's shia/sunni, the kid's response has nothing to do with him being "media trained" - he responds with an anti-sectarian line because that's the standard line for Muslims. There is not supposed to be a hard distinction; most sects fall under the umbrella of "Islam". Sectarianism is needlessly divisive and plays into the imperialist's interests. It's not a "political" answer at all.
This shows again when Hasan asks about Saudi Arabia and UAE's role as client states, and he responds with "they're our brothers". Of course he's fully aware of their role, but a) he probably wants to be able to go to Saudia Arabia again (he said he went to Mecca recently) and b) doesn't want to conflate the people with the monarchs.
Another clarification: when the kid says "ayb", not wanting to show the finger, Hasan's interpretation is "shame". Ayb is not shame, it's decency/class. Not being outwardly vulgar in your actions does not mean you're "ashamed" of anything. I often see diaspora members make this conflation when they want to exhibit backwards behavior and are told not to do so. I get it, the point is to show he's not some caricature as imperialist media paints him, and Hasan does a beautiful job in that regard. Still, a lot of "our" norms in the west are considered weird by the standards of the global majority.
Finally: the kid said he FINISHED One Piece LOOL I think that got lost in translation somewhere.
