"There was no way I was ever going to do anything to address there problems. And that's when I realized, I had finally become a real politician." One of the most true statements I ever heard
I think there's a number of factors at play... Exposure is good, especially if it's going to be on mainstream television. You also want that exposure to be positive. Then there's also the fact that this might be the person to represent you in the future so you want them somewhat happy... Then also there's just a lot of peer pressure and shit, all these people around, cameras, treating this one guy as important, not wanting to create a fuss/awkward situation, etc. You get the gist. I mean if one is confident and brazen enough, they can get away with a lot, without any cameras or anything... people often don't really feel comfortable enough to stand up to that sort of shit, especially if potential danger is an element, which can become rather abusive and sad, but anyway. Oh, and yea all of this video is probably just part of the script, but either way.
@@Siberius- unlike the OP responding to your comment, I actually appreciate the long form response. Yes I think exposure and pressure are the largest key factors. A man that walks into your store with all these cameras and people sounding him. You'd want to make a good impression. There's also the manipulation of hope. People are always looking towards or hoping someone can assist in solving their problems. That someone has to be a politician more often than not because they themselves (sadly) can't change policy. It's a sad and manipulative game that politicians play with these meet and greets. Probably some were scripted, but given their record I'm sure others were not. Most probably were not.

It's not about bribing the politicians, but if you have a chance to get your restaurant in the news because someone influential visited, you're going to take the opportunity, especially if you're in an area that's struggling.
They are giving it for free because for them it is free marketing. Whether you're a politician or a UA-camr with a massive following of thousands of people. You have allowed them to gain a bit of publicity. I would have definitely done the same thing, like giving a free coffee or a free rose in the hopes that my business would have a chance on T.V. They are smart entrepreneurs, although they never knew the real circumstance it has still worked out in their favor. edit: I would also like to add that I think the moral of this video is not to show how politicians can get free stuff but rather how small businesses struggle with their daily problems. There needs to be more support for small businesses. So Go out and support the small businesses near you
Or (deeper meaning) to show how the politicians get our money and our votes because the people hope to gain something from the politician. However, in the end, nothing changes after the politician is elected, and the people who voted do not receive the help (or money) that they were hoping for.
I think the other part of it is that nobody wants to say no to someone in power, especially on camera. They don't want to be "that person" that denied the local politician, or celebrity, or whoever.
Does it though? My thought process throughout the video was: well obviously he doesn't ask for free stuff, he just gets it. Oh wait, he does ask for it. Okay well obviously at the end he's gonna pay for it. Oh, he doesn't? This is straight up extortion.

@@Boy_Boy I think you consider adding the businesses you visited into the description. Would probably help out the businesses that gave you free stuff.
There was this great show that tested psychological perceptions around authority. It was awesome, it might be on youtube. One of the tests was to see if people would give up their seat at a restaurant if you had a uniform on or not. Any uniform, sometimes just coveralls and a hard hat. And they made sure the people had already started their meal. Every time someone in a uniform, even just a high vis vest, asked people to move, they did. Without the uniform, almost no one moved. They did another test with signage at a museum. They put up a sign that said please follow the line on the ground and then had an extremely convoluted line traced out that led away from most exhibits. The first few tests, people started following it but then did their own thing. So the researchers made the sign look more and more official, eventually having a very official looking government seal on it and more commanding language. Once it got to that level, almost no adult deviated from the path. There's this heartbreaking, and scarily poignant part where a little girl excitedly starts running towards some exhibits but her parents yank her back onto this path that ultimately leads no where. Like damn, nail on the head, yeah?

I think the massage one was a joke, especially since he didn't take the camera crew with him.
a few a jokes, some the shop owner is in on it. most are real
Those small businesses are most definitely real 😂
The Kitten one was obviously a joke you can see him breaking character as he walks out of the door
the thai thing was probably a joke that he had sex, you can see his messy hair and untied tie
I thought we all hated politicians in Australia and businesses are just giving things away to strangers with a camera crew 😂
Businesses curry favour with politicians by bribing or ingratiating. Politicians curry favour with voters by lying. Fuck i want curry.
@@ninjadel2 - Well thank you lol. I like to organise my thoughts by typing them down, it's primarily for my own interest, but it's still cool if others get something out of it. Very far from an essay for me though.
Ohhh good addition with hope there! yea maybe if they show kindness, these important looking politician people will help them, even for selfish reasons... or at least some courtesy-cash off camera or something for their troubles, I dunno.
Always pays to tell these people about your hardships, because they might do something about it. Reminds me of a guy who really helped a youtuber in a video, and he mentioned how he needs foot surgery, and I was like yea he gonna get that cash for sure, and at the end of the video he did get that cash. Which was nice and reflected good on the youtuber and that's business, baby (but also that's being a good person).
@@Siberius- thankfully while scrolling through the comments Alexa mentioned they went back and paid for everything which is spot on to them. And yes it's an odd line that I'm not sure where I stand yet in helping people while it's on camera. There's this element of disingenuousness to it but at the end of the day somebodys life is better off.
Thank you for your service!

Well being a politician is essentially lying a bit here and there to get stuff you want from people.
when did he say he was a politician to them?
That's a weird tradition you have there in Aus. Politicians running for elections usually try to bribe the elctorate, not the other way around 😄
if people think you have a little influence or money, they bend over backwards. But if you start to expect it, they sense that and shut down.

@@tribalismblindsthembutnoty124 "Those" businesses know who they bribe and what will they get though, and they do it any time except elections :)

So Go out and support the small businesses near you
Thank you for saying this because people won't understand this
Or (deeper meaning) to show how the politicians get our money and our votes because the people hope to gain something from the politician. However, in the end, nothing changes after the politician is elected, and the people who voted do not receive the help (or money) that they were hoping for.
can they say no though? theirs another side to it
I think the other part of it is that nobody wants to say no to someone in power, especially on camera. They don't want to be "that person" that denied the local politician, or celebrity, or whoever.
I think thats still the point, that as long as anyone looks important enough they'll give in to them.
