Fantastic! MIDI Tape Recorder is a staple of my workflow now. It does exactly what it says and works great. Thanks so much for making this available to the community and for taking the time to show how to use it.
We really needed something like this, where you have a looper interface that specializes in being a "dumb" recorder as well as a modular, triggerable modulation player. Very well thought out.
THX !!! WoW this looks like a real game changer and work around for my workflow and progress ! I hope I can get this to work like the Roli Noise app (& not just their instruments in AUM) and have a way to edit my performance to capture in AUM. Appreciate what you have gifted us with !!
Thank you for the video. I’m trying to follow along but cannot get tape recorder to actually record. I get a little green status light on the right hand side of the track but not the left. Any idea what I’m doing wrong? Thanks.
I’m using it on AUM on iPad to record a nord drum 2. Seems very precise. SO enjoyable to use. It is like yer in my head. Please redesign all software I use.
Thanks so much for this video! Midi Tape Recorder is a very useful tool! I would love it to have more looping features in the future maybe like independent loop sizes per channel? Great work man! Cheers from Mexico,
Great work buddy! You have a great concept. A live performance without editing has been a goal of mine. Actually precise playing and lil nuances and slides. Cheers!
I have been using the app with my Roland 2000 which allows you to assign channels to different instruments etc and then send them out... .. So I have recorded Midi on 4 sep channels and then played them back from IPAD into my Iconnectivity hub using WIDI BLE dongle .. then sending the midi to various Synths... It all works really well. Question would it be possible to increase the number of channels in the app... so that I can utilise more between 1 and 16 as seperate outputs... especially channel 10... the std midi drum channel... What is really great is that I can now decide to change the actual instrument type with out having to replay a piece.. the Roland has many pianos etc.. so I can just try a different one.. Great software been wanting this for a very long time.. I sent Donation let me know if you got it
Hi Geert Love your Midi Tape Recorder very much! Any chance you will add hands free operation of basic controls eg Choose track, Arm for recording, Delete recording on track - or delete all? Those are the functions I’d love to be able to remote control possibly from a midi foot controller. Thank you for this (already) indispensable looper app! Cheers
Hi Måns, I'm also replying to you in email, but yes this is possible already because all operations are available as AUv3 parameters. You can use the host's (like AUM), MIDI control over AUv3 parameters to set up a foot controller. Including some screenshots in my email.

@@gbevin Great :-) Thank you very much! I was using your app in Michael Tyson’s Loopy Pro app, that is probably why I didn’t detect those options. I will return to AUM and exploit the options for setting up hardware controls. Thanks again :-)
Nice plugin ! But i could not find how to overdub (record some midi, loop play, and record other midi over it in the same track. It always delete the previous recording).
Yes that is by design. MIDI is not like audio where notes and expression just stacks. If they're played on the same channels then everything gets really weird, so the overdub works like old fashion tape based track overdub, the other tracks still continue to play.
This is sooooo great! Thank you! (what about adding a little little rubber tool as single minimalistic editing possibility. Combined with undo (already there) (and some zooming but we wont be too demanding😅) that would be more than perfect…
@@gbevin Thank you Geert, I did as you suggested and armed Logic and MTR and when I pushed Send on the Alesis Data Disk it recorded the sequence into a single Logic track with all the instruments combined as one big blob. Even though I had Midi Tape Recorder armed nothing was recorded into MTR. I made sure that MTR was armed. Is MTR supposed to record the same midi info at the same time as Logic? @@gbevin what information is lost? I just read the MIDI specification you wrote and I was curious to know what MIDI information will be lost because it will not be recorded by Logic Pro. I'm trying to write a JavaScript MPE in Logic Pro's Scriper. And it's working. But now I'm curious about what information generated by the controller and received by the MPE instruments will be lost when recorded by Logic Pro.

@@ToniMazzotti I can't speak for what DAWs will eventually do, the few I spoke to said it was unlikely to get changed any time soon. MPE is MIDI 1.0, I hope that in a decade or so MIDI 2 could replace it, but it's still a long way to get to that

Make sure the MIDI connection is made and that the record enable state is set for the track, then send the MCM. This is detailed in the MPE support section of the manual.

Dear Geert Bevin, left an idea for future app enhancement on the AudioBus forum. Hope it makes sense.
Ah! Thank you! I'm old to MIDI, but only recently acquired an MPE device (an Orba). I hadn't tried recording it yet. Have a happy new year, everyone!
