  • Pt. 5: Dingboche to Lobuche | Hiking the EVEREST BASE CAMP TREK | EBC 2022 // THIS is the story of how I said “Yes” to my very first international trek, hiking up to Everest Base Camp in Nepal.
    Coming out of Dingboche, we had a pretty good climb, which would lead us to hiking through the Nepalese Flats. We were treated to beautiful, warm, clear weather and were able to enjoy all of the incredible scenery around us.
    For lunch, we stopped at Thukla and enjoyed more Ginger Lemon Honey Tea and Dal Bhat. After lunch, we made the steep climb up to Thukla Pass, which sits at 4,830 meters or 15,748 feet.
    When you see photos and videos of the Everest Base Camp trek, you’ve more than likely seen Thukla Pass. Thukla Pass was a somber and humbling experience seeing all of the different memorials for fallen climbers and failed expeditions on Mount Everest. There were so many memorials here.
    After Thukla Pass, we hiked through more Nepalese Falts, which would eventually lead us into Lobuche for the evening. Here, we would visit the world’s highest bakery and sleep at over 16,000 feet.
    In the morning, we would head off for one of the biggest days of our entire trek - Everest Base Camp.
    From Dingboche to Lobuche
    Elevation:
    4,410 meters to 4,910 meters
    14,469 feet to 16,108 feet

    Awesome video and series! This is a bucket list item and watching it helps to get over the apprehension hurdle. When the series is complete, I bet viewers would love to see a breakdown of equipment, what you used, what you didn't use, why you made some of the choices you did, and/or what you might do differently. I know I would. For instance, I suspect you skipped filters in lieu of SteriPEN because filters can freeze... Regardless, thanks for all the great content!

    I’d love to know what limits or guidelines they had for monitoring you saturations. In school we had many math problems where we had to figure out the partial pressure of oxygen at Everest altitude and how it affected numbers in the body… but that was 20 years ago! Lol. And how did the altitude feel etc? I’m sure you’ll touch on that in your following videos. I love this series and the adventure you had!

    • @TheHungryHiker
      @TheHungryHiker  Рік тому +1

      Not sure exactly what the limits or guidelines were for our vitals that our guide was monitoring, but I know that no one in our group came close to having any issues at the higher elevation. The higher we got, the harder it was to breathe. I know I felt a whole lot more tired at the higher elevation, which is why we all hiked slow, slow, slow. Thank goodness for Diamox, cough drops, lots of water and delicious food along this trek. 😀

      I agree. The site of the memorials up at Thukla Pass were very humbling. I took time to visit as many of the memorials as I could, reading all of the different signs and plaques. Even though we didn't summit Mount Everest on this trip, hiking in this area is really challenging. Not only being up at such a high elevation, but also weather conditions can change in an instant. You have to be prepared for anything that might come your way. Luckily, we had an amazing guide who helped us stay safe and have a successful trek up to EBC.
