Was just there yesterday 7 13 23 and had lunch at West Pier Drive in and was in awe of that bridge to think that it was built that long ago and has withstood the test of time Wow.
I really enjoyed watching this drone footage of the area! I had the honor of traveling under this bridge on our naval war ship. We came to Sault Saint Marie in 1979 via the locks in the Great Lakes for a navy recruitment tour. Our ships were the USS Fairfax County and the USS Oliver Hazard Perry. I believe I still have pictures passing under this bridge. Brings back good memories of over 43 years ago! I am a drone pilot and love flying as well and drones give us the ability to see things from very interesting angles and heights. This is brilliant and again I thank you for sharing your flight. It was very touching.
I'm glad you liked the music! The songs are from Purple Planet Music (www.purple-planet.com/), which has a lot of great royalty free music. The first song is The Big Sky and the second song is Rain On Lake Erie.
The bridge would likely still technically be owned by the Wisconsin Central/Sault Ste Marie Bridge Company as all of CN's US assets are run through their US subsidiaries. I wonder what the actual paperwork shows. Also, it's a neat point of interest to point out a CN owned boat waiting for the passage of a CN train.
Haha I had the exact same concern. I spent a fair amount of time researching this before flying. The area right around the actual U.S. port of entry was all geofenced to prevent people from flying drones there, but the area I was flying in was outside the geofencing. I also learned that it's illegal to fly a drone across the US-Canada border, so I made sure to stay on the US side of the St. Marys River. I also tried to avoid flying too high. They're always adding new rules and regulations, so I'm not sure if anything has changed over the past few years, but that's what I found when I looked into it years ago.
I'm not sure of the exact number, but it's not a lot. If you spend a few hours there you'll probably see at least one. The nice thing is that it takes a while for them to lower the railroad bridge. When you see the bridge going down you know a train will be crossing very soon!
The local that comes in in the morning doesn't cross often to my knowledge. The evening train crosses with it's northbound train and then comes back across with it's southbound train.

0:46 I can't get over the fact that they have TWO different lift bridge mechanisms nested one inside the other. Never seen anything like it.

I've wanted to fly my drone here I just figured because of security etc it'd be grounded by the FAA or shot down lol

How trains do they get per day, I heard it’s usually about 1 in the evening

@Robert King Right on. The few times I've seen it, it always came into town light and left light.
