"these days we have facilities for these kinds of people" - yes we do, but, not nearly as many as we need and not readily accessible to those who do not have the necessary insurance or funds to pay the costs. There are probably a lot more "James" out there who are hanging on by a very thin thread.
That's for sure. I remember being in a facility for treatment in the States, I'm from Canada. I was able to extend my stay fairly easily and it was all paid for, even the plane tickets. The American patients would have to leave after a week or 2 no matter where they were in their therapy, due to their insurance running out 😣 Some of these people were still so unstable but had to leave with no support in their community 😣😡
@@darlenedenis5686 - If only more people in the US would understand that social programs do not make you a Socialist - we would rather have the best facilities and doctors that most people cannot afford to use when they need them. I lived in Germany 2014-2018 and the taxes and healthcare insurance as a little higher but there was no co-pay, no deductible, from GP to specialist - free, zero, hospital also, free. The math made healthcare soooooo much more affordable. I love my home country but just do not understand the willful ignorance soo many hang onto. Hope your still doing well.
Oh you’re so right. There are many more out there imo and they aren’t getting the help they need.
Not that I support what James did, but the mental health system and society in general really failed Jim. Without proper care, Jim turned into precisely what everyone was afraid of. But this can stand as an example of why we have to do better to help those dealing with mental health issues.
I agree. I commented above. Imagine if the world treated mental health patients as they do cancer patients.
Meaning getting mental health patients the treatment and care they need to live a healthy life
No. The richest country in the world can't afford universal health care because all their money has to go to a bloated military budget.
I can’t imagine how hard it would be for a helpless mother to deal with such a disturbed son.
@@susannecromwell3461 How was she the cause? I didn’t hear anything at all in the video that would cause a logical person to believe that. So, you must have additional information that we do not?
I seen with my own eyes, a wonderful mother raise two well behaved and successful children who showed kindness and empathy toward others.
She also had a third child, the youngest. Despite the exact same environment, that child was extremely difficult and the mother(and father too)tried every route possible to try to help her child. Nothing worked.
It is not always the parents fault. Period. Sometimes people are just evil or severely mentally ill.
Edit: James mother took him to get help. A regular mom cannot force the courts or mental health facilities to keep their children. Sometimes their hands are tied.
@@susannecromwell3461 No way!! How can you say that!! The mother seemed caring enough to try get him help. He is an adult and chose to murder.
It's hard to get more schizophrenic paranoid than James. To think that people like him get rejected by the system is incredible. Yet, it happens all the time.
The sad thing is that the stigma around having a mental health diagnosis often prevents folks who already struggle with trusting others from reaching out for help. In this case, the judge who ga e the 90 day no contact order between he and his mother should have never released him to the streets. That was a clear cut IVC situation. For folks such as James, there is a line that, once passed, they are unable to make rational decisions. Fortunately, the majority of folks with a mental health diagnosis are not violent. In fact, it's proven that folks with a mental health challenge are much more likely to be victimized than they are to create victims.
exactly....letting him be outside....after they know he was going to kill his mother...and tell him, stay away!! it s just unbelievable!! you re right, there are so many very sick people that need to be taken care of...but still...it s a shame...
Lizzie Borden was never convicted of killing her parents; she was not a “crazed axe murderer” and went on to live a quiet, if secluded life. This killer had nothing in common with a young, unmarried woman who live 100 year before him. Talk about legends growing teeth over time. Lizzie Bordon was not cognitively impaired, and Lizzie Borden’s family position was typical of her era.
They didn’t claim any of the stuff you mentioned, except for the crazed axe murderer part. She wanted her dad’s money, she had no intention of going on a killing spree. I agree that they reference her way too much.
However, for someone as mentally ill as this guy, I can see where the details of Lizzie’s “why” wouldn’t matter. He saw “ax kills mother” and that’s all he needed to start the obsession.
She wasn't convicted because the all male jury couldn't imagine a woman being that violent. She did that crime dude. Just because someone is not convicted doesn't make them innocent.
It doesn't matter if objectively they had something in common. It's enough that he took inspiration from the movie to call him a copycat. He saw similarities and our opinion doesn't change anything. You're not going to convince him. :)
@Free Thinker I always have a good night. You sound like you need some rest. Nothing you said makes any sense. Fact she killed her parents period. Dumbass
James didn't fall through the cracks. He was placed there by neglecting authorities. Which literally only has one task.
This dude is the first to look and act the part... He's smiling and laughing... Like straight off the pages of a movie script
And that movie script would be Toxic Avenger, he looks just like Melvin the mop boy. 🤣
I was going to comment how are the very beginning of this video, it shows his evil looking face in the dark and it terrified me! I don’t scare easily watching these but that part scared me to death. I immediately went and made sure all my doors were locked lol!
Dr. Buzz :" every thing was slightly delayed" in a deep delayed voice. I am sure that if I did not know what "delay" means I know now.
If this guy had a history of violence why in the hell was he released in to society again and again?
I wonder too. That moment when he attempted to murder his mom, they shouldn't let him wander...
@@fourfurrypaws9294 ed kemper killed his grandparents but got out after 5 years after he convinced them he was ok...these doctors and quacks have a lot to answer for cos out of their own arrogance and over exaggerated ability they release people that shouldn't be released
Why did these murders occur? B/c James Cushing was an open book no one in authority wanted to read. Thank you for showing that in this video! And, the Seattle times also said - "Once again, state agencies balked, judges and court commissioners turned him loose, and government officials carefully explained why they could do nothing. In the end his mother, a warm, intelligent woman who speaks of her son with affection, found herself caught between fear and despair. ``Oh God,'' she wrote in her journal, just weeks before Geneva McDonald was found hacked to death with an ax, `` "
Makes one wonder what kind of kids they do want to give treatment to...Probably only those of parents who are loaded.
Looking at his face is scary enough for me..
That could have caused a lot of insecurity and worthless feeling as well. When your face is so disfigured with disabilities coupled with homelessness and bullying, this can happen.
Tell him, Lizzie killed members of her own family and strangers. He is actually imitating the Valeska ax murders!
Oh Geesh. I’m already scared after watching this but now I have to go research the Valeska murders too. 😳🤣
Not that it matters but Lizzie Borden did not stay in the family home. She and her sister eventually moved to a house in the richer area of town. She hated the family home because it wasn't up to date in terms of plumbing, etc. Her father was a miser with his money.
Or he just felt the house they already had was fine and they didn't need to buy a new house to show they were wealthy.
Imagine a child killing their parent today partly because they didn't want to sell their perfectly good house to move to the richer area (not to say better) in town when you asked.
Nevermind the house being in a richer area, you will have to still spend quite a bit of money, since this other house is more expensive than your current one. Will cost more in property tax, utilities, servants and extra furniture.
Lizzie was a spoiled, entitled brat.
This is one of those nature versus nurture cases that I love. Thank you for posting this story!🙏🏻
James Cushing has nothing to do with Lizzy Borden, how silly. Gotta make a show, though.
I can't understand why anyone would leave their doors unlocked.
Dude in the cell next to me used to have his own convo to him self all night eh. Would keep a lot of people awake. Come out an hung him self from the tip landing one morning took a run from the back of his cell, strait off the top landing. Poor fella !!
What I'll never understand is how, in one of the most dangerous countries in the world, there are people that let their front doors open. Of course, criminals are criminals and also responsible are the cops and the medical staff, the judges, etc. But I, that live in a tranquil village in Catalonia would NEVER dream of having my street door open. Never!
Yes... even here in Ireland when there were no murders in a single year, people ALWAYS locked their homes.....
I don't get that either. I actually lock my room door when I'm turning in for the night.
I like how every episode of Copycat Killers is them forcing a narrative that a specific movie influenced them. Even if someone says once in an interview one of the movies they liked. There ARE copycat killers but 99% of these are not "seeing the movie as instructions". They're like "Oh wow, in this movie, they don't have parents and THIS person didn't have parents. IT'S CLOSE ENOUGH." If the news and wiki articles on an individual don't remotely mention the movie in question, it's kinda painful how much it's pushed. It's one thing to make a correlation and this series has a cool premise but they make people actually think/present it as a specific movie influenced every single person and it drives me insane.
Buzz used to annoy the hell out of me but now i find him hilarious. He is so over the top and melodramatic it's almost camp.
I really like him. He's a character. I imagine he grew up in a wealthy family (I mean, just take that double last name. lol) and he's gay, but not tacky. He has class.
Reminds me a little of one of the 'alien' characters from Doctor Who. The being that was nothing but skin stretched out in a frame. The lower half of his face kind of looks like that. But, he is fun to watch.
Dr Buzz. His' hairstyles keep changing in some episodes. yeah he's kinda dramatic. But, that's how it goes, in these crime dramatizations..
I was bullied horribly and it was a very tough upbringing between that and family shit. But when you feel like people hate you and make fun of you ridicule you and no matter what you do people just keep abusing you it gets to a point that you feel like absolute nothing and question why you where even born... but I got lucky I meet a friend when I was 17 and that changed my view on people and life. I finally felt like people knew I was alive and wasn't being bullied and to have that huge of a relief of thinking no one will ever like you let alone love you made the biggest difference in my life all it took was one person that was popular to actually take time to befriend me and talk to me and that was like seeing the sun for the first time to know you had somebody to talk to and not be bullied or looked at because you didn't have the best upbringing was life changing!! That's all a person needs and in most cases that's the difference is just for someone to treat them like a person that can change a person from being a murderer to a person that is actually happy waking up every day! So anyone out here that sees a person being picked on just try and talk to them and it may be the best thing ever or it could not matter but atleast try especially yall in Jr high and high school just be nice and respectful to a person no matter if there family has all the money or poor it may just change a person's view so much that you saved that person and that is an amazing thing to do!!
Dr. Buzz actually talks SLOWER than Dr. Phil if that is possible......
Mental health should be taken more seriously. Imagine if the world treated mental health patients as they do those with cancer. Mental health is also misunderstood and everyone is labeled as crazy or insane.
If they cut out all the repeated scenes and story telling, they could cut this show down to about 10 minutes. Which is about my limit on campy delivery.
I would strongly encourage anyone who is interested in the real story of Lizzie Borden to do the research and read some nonfiction about it. The Borden Murders by Sarah Miller does a great job of presenting all the evidence and letting you decide. I would also like to point out that every single line of the famous rhyme is false!
Correct me if I am wrong but did I hear a theory that there was sexual assault involved in the Borden case? Also I really liked the fact the narrator does say "just like lizzie borden IN THE MOVIES".
i need to comment on this case, im a 40yr old male and i understand 100% how this guy suffered in his youth, my mother left my dad when i was 3 and moved us to another country, i was raised by a narcisistic mother who wrapped me up in cotton wool, nagged me, never let me do anything without her strict supervision, i was bullied at high school, i always left UNWORTHY, u never had any real friends, never had a GF or even been on a date before, im still shy talking to women even as a 40yr old, im have severe depression, but i have a job which i hate but i do it, i live alone now, i could have become crazy, when i was young i did have thoughts about bringing guns to school but i never did it, i dont have a criminal record or anything, but i know exactly how james felt, i think it all started with his father REJECTING him, and everything else was just a cry for help, having a nagging single mother raise you is terrible and i should know, something else must have triggered him to actually KILL and pushed him over the edge.
James Cushing looks just like Melvin the mop boy from Toxic Avenger. 🤣
This young mans care from the very beginning was a complete failure. The results are tragic but far from surprising.
imagine if james were a roman emperor and people had to follow his orders and commands, he would have been worse than COMMODUS, CARACELLA and CALIGULA combined ,lol
it’s sad how much the system failed him and his family and the families of those he hurt
What f..ing system, you don´t have any system! I assume you are an American, obviously.
Omg the way the actor portrays how this stroke ran is epic 😂
The amount of horrible violent killer stories that had schizophrenic tendencies is beyond disturbing. Too many to list. Yet the response is always how schizophrenia is more often than not passive and non violent.
He didn't "fall through the cracks"... He fell through the trenches. Big ol' gaps. He didn't stand a chance.

This is one case where he may have truly been very different with proper help.
I can't believe the cops!👮♂️ are so nice to this killer? 💀
Love this series. Not proud of it but i do...😂Great content. Brought in a respectful, informative, yet entertaining way. Thanks .. keep rolling.
There’s nothing wrong with loving this content when it’s done in this way, in the proper way. It is informative. And if you’re a psychology buff like I am, keep watching this channel!
I know it sounds bad but this guy is a broken toy ...it's just that you don't get a refund or get to send them back to the factory .
They end up rejects of a society that doesn't give a shit about the mentally ill
You are the best 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾 2 videos today 💃🏾
MUCH respect to the guy with the camera. I love how pissed it made him!
Ah, the majestic Elizabeth Montgomery. One of the best (So shocking it was a made for TV movie, I can't imagine how much more of a masterpiece it would have been as a real theatrical film, but it's still a masterpiece as is.) One of my prize acquisitions was getting this film in my film collection. As for this guy, jeez, plp out there are all nuts.
James proved that a killer or robber will come back to the same neighborhood. So don't get careless or think they will move on. Be very sure that your doors and windows are locked and even more so if a crime of any kind happens in your neighborhood! Thank you for the video!
iv slept with my downstairs window open for 6 years because i have cats that need to get out and im not allowed a catflap (my place is rented)
The only connection is the weapon used… 🤦🏻♀️
Thank you
Utterly tragic, a lesson to us all.
It meant 3 hots and a cot in a nice warm environment. I think he would thrive in that structure!
32:19 The way she turns her head and says the b word is adorable 😆
James must've had plot armor, or something, because this sicko was handed too the justice system on a silver platter several times & they kept sending it back too the kitchen! What the absolute fuckery is this?!
Justice system needs some updates, it's overdue
Very shocking that medical institutes were just let him come & go could they not accept the Fact, that he's mentally unstable.
He's been visually & physically seen, by the public, trying to Harm threaten people with his Pocket knife.. .. Derrr.
Towards the end of the show, that guy says that Lizzie Borden was found innocent and went on to live the rest of her life in the house where the murders were committed. Well in fact, yes, she was found innocent, but she did not live the rest of her life in that house. She and her sister bought a bigger home in a different neighborhood.
Your series is great but these people are disturbing. Thank you for making a horrible time in the victims life to us in a way that makes these horrible people a little bit human but they are disturbed, maybe even evil. Thank you again.
Never leave weapons of opportunity laying around
can't wait to do this.
So what you're saying is I shouldn't be having all these conversations with myself

The system is blind to the truth of evil.👹
Most western Global Government systems are F_d up.

Then there are a small % of people, who have been Truly Scapegoats.
Who have been wrongly incarcerated 4 crimes that didn't exist in the 1st place.
Jury tampering, Corrupt lawyers, corrupt cops \ PoPo's''.
32:37 Always a good idea to have a blurtger alarm!
It was never proven Lizzie Borden was a murderess, so the film critic doesn't know what tf he's talking about. It isn't a different story today, it's just as bad because people are ignoring the problem right before their eyes.
If I recall correctly Lizzie Borden may have been abused by her father. But I don't remember the specifics. Back then children were basically livestock to people. Might have been the infant mortality rate, after all when half of your babies die why should you become attached?
Edit: I needed to think about this for a bit. I think the most astounding thing is that this guy was this way, near as I can tell, just because he was infected with a virus in utero. That's almost SCARIER than what he did.
You are correct about Lizzie. Her father was abusing her and her step-mother knew about it and did nothing. That is why she killed them both.
Reminds me a little of Aerosmiths song "Jamies got a gun".
@@StephanyChills I prefer Warren Zevon, who manages to make the macabre ridiculously merry. "He's an excitable boy they all said" was probably written about Bundy though. Still, a VIRUS did this to him. He had a good home. Normally it's nature+nurture that makes a psycho like this, but not this guy. What's the difference between german measels and measels anyway?
There is no evidence that her father abused her or her sister.
She didn't like her stepmother and wanted money without her father controlling the purse strings.
@@ertjiesb4158 Sadly, she's not around for us to interrogate. Though also back then nobody talked about child abuse. Because that could account for the lack of evidence, we'll never know for sure. Not unless some secret diary or something comes to light, but that only happens in the movies. Better to have a wall full of question marks above a topic than to assume.
@@AnimeShinigami13 even if she was alive, we wouldn't get much out of her. She lived a very quiet life after if I remember correctly and didn't talk about the murders or her family.
God I can't stand even looking at this guy. It's like looking into the eyes of "crazy".
His looks his health condition disabilities all combined with his homelessness and his troubles growing up has caused this. I feel sad for him
He ate her food and took a nap. How dumb was that? Is this what they called a dumb criminal.
Why didnt the guy who was attacked report him to the cops with a description?
The mozzie Borden expert doesn't even know about her. She bought a new house, Maplecroft, up on the hill in Fall River. She did not stay in the murder house. She also never stole an ax.
That's not why Lizze killed them and she never enjoyed the "spotlight" 🤦♀️ ....why can't shows research
This guy would have done something crazy anyway ...I don't put stock in to the copycat concept because he could have been set off by a tin of cat food or any other number of crazy things
Good series
This show works way too hard to make the connection to something instead of just telling a story.
James literally looks like my twin brother. Who also has schizophrenia. We were both in the foster care system. I have no idea who my father was. Never met our mother. Even the nose and teeth are alike
I didn't get one thing: was he inspired by the Lizzie Borden movie or not? They barely mention it on the doc so I hope someone here in the comments can help me figure this one out. lol
I worked in the mental health unit he was in at McNeil Island, WA back in 1998. He was one weird bird.
34:35 That picture is just so unsettling to me
What a coward he ran when someone fought back
The system failed James badly...all the signs were there
0.03 Looks like Stephen King on cocaine
I bet you if the “insanity” defense was prohibited, less “insane” people would kill. Insane or not, murder is murder. They know the difference between good and bad when it’s convenient. 😑
The narrator sounds overly excited when he introduces these depraved acts and yes Rashbone is totally correct Lizzie Borden's story can be seen as a "fairytale" as it has no real basis in reality.
Sadly cases of mentally ill people being marginalized and discarded, until they retaliate of course, then those same victimized people are victimized again by the very system which has already repeatedly failed them. And this is the world you're all choosing to allow to continue. Everyone doing nothing should be ashamed of themselves; good people don't do nothing...
The real killer looks very creepy.

Reality: Barely, like Lizzie Borden
This guy definitely had some screws loosened up stairs. I really don’t think he was thinking all things that these people are saying.
How can you even compare him to lizzy Borden, lizzy Borden was found not guilty so why does everyone still to this day carry on like she was guilty and was convicted of the crime, she got a not guilty and should be treated as such, and these so called professionals if that's what they are should treat her memory as an innocent woman seeing as she wasn't convicted of any crime 🤔😉.
Just because someone tells you to kill. What idiot would do so?
First of all, Lizzie didn’t live out her days in the murder house. She upgraded to a nicer house, kind of what she was hoping to do because her dad was a miser that didn’t even want indoor plumbing.
Second, the references to LB are way too exaggerated here.
The sad part is that, in America at least, attempting to kill someone gets you a slap on the wrist. If you try and fail, you just get released into the wild again. Never mind if it’s a mental health issue causing the violence. A friend of mine was murdered by someone hearing voices, a diagnosed schizophrenic with a rap sheet spanning decades. Yet there he was, walking down the street with a shotgun. My friend, 17 years old, was playing soccer in a field with a couple of other boys his age. Two boys lost their lives that day. And the shooter? He was out of prison ten years later.
Yep, we are a violent nutty country in America. You can be shot & killed anytime anywhere on any day. We love our guns, anyone can get one and mental health care is hard to get in a timely manner.
Lizzie didn't enjoy the spotlight, some of these guests are talking out of their ass. Her publicity ruined her life, even though she was found not guilty
30:45 why didnt the mum get him braces for his teeth, and maybe corrective surgery on his eyes , he would've looked way different then and maybe not been picked on as a kid etc
"Is history repeating itself?" This guy has nothing more to do with Lizzie Borden than Heriberto Seda has to do with the California Zodiac
American idea of freedom, you are not supposed to intervene, what ever. And then you pay the price.
Of course of all I've never seen the movie Emoji board but second of all they could never prove that she did it that's why she was acquitted so to call her deranged and stuff really can't say that because nobody knows someone conclusion he didn't do it

Ironic how towards the end you hear the narrator say, "Police were desperately searching for James ..." The entire first half of the episode was James being given to the police repeatedly!
