  • Hilma went beyond the visible, to acquire real insights about our existence on earth in relation to the center of the universe. As we learn from her about her creative process "The pictures were painted through me, without any preliminary drawings, and with great force. I had no idea what the paintings were supposed to depict; nevertheless I worked swiftly and surely, without changing a single brush stroke"
You have mystery unfolding ahead, and will soon enough realize what is expected of you...
This track feature insights from Tracey Bashkoff, Director of Collections and Senior Curator. Her abstractions remained all but unseen until 1986. “Hilma af Klint: Paintings for the Future,” on view at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, was the first major solo exhibition in the United States devoted to the artist, who imagined installing her works in a spiral temple.
Hilma af Klint, “Group X, No. 1, Altarpiece” (“Grupp X, nr 1, Altarbild”), 1915. Oil and metal leaf on canvas, 237.5 x 179.5 cm. The Hilma af Klint Foundation, Stockholm.

I’ve read that her small works were stored in a trunk, with instructions on when to open it. Where were her large canvases stored? Were they already in a gallery or galleries?
