By the mid 1970’s, most if not all car enthusiast magazines such as Hot Nod, Car Crap, Popular Nut Rubbing etc. turned nearly all their attention to Chevrolet. A new informative magazine came out I think in the late 90’s. Muscle Car Review. Great mag! Nice coverage of all models. Lou, it’s wonderful you bring “unheard of” cars into the light. You are a living magazine of info. In Nov. 1975, while in high school, I bought my 1st car. A 1970 Ford Torino Cobra. 429SCJ Drag Pack, automatic, 391 rear. Mind bending performance! I currently own a 1969 Ford Cobra 🐍 fastback.
A Pontiac GT-37? That's a first for me! These cars must be extremely rare! The gold exterior looks sharp, and that 455 H.O. engine sounds real healthy with a sweet cam lope to it! What a unique car! I like the bench seat with 4-speed manual transmission! I also like the fact that it is completely manual, with no power steering or brakes. It's 100% pure muscle car! No extra drag on the engine for maximum horsepower and performance! Of course it's in another noisy indoor venue with no test drive!
So many similar looking Pontiacs with different names. My grandparents had a 72 Luxury Lemans with optioned out 455 that looked very much like this minus the decals and customized wheels. It could lay a nice coat of rubber on the road if he gunned it. It's like they weren't even aware what a bundle of raw power they had when they bought it. Secretly I think my grandfather did know but he never drove it hard unless my grandmother was absent, then he would open it up just for 14 year old me.
Wow, you learn something new every day… I grew up in the musclecar era haven’t been born in 1950, but I had never ever heard of the GT 37 model, Pontiac!
What a great Pontiac! I've never seen or heard about these until now, and Mr.. Ross has truly set the bar pretty high for the next one I will be fortunate enough to see. Thanks, Lou!
¡Pero qué impresionante se veía éste Pontiac GT37 1971 con ése color dorado! Hi Scott, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou P.S. Speaking of 1970 Monte Carlo....stay tuned.
I heard the owner mention the 140mph speedometer. My mother bought a 1970 1/2 Tempest T-37, in September 1970, and hers had the same 140mph speedometer. Her car had the 350/2bbl so I always thought that 140 was just a bit optimistic. I noticed this one didn’t have headrests or even the side vents at the edge of the dashboard, I suppose to save weight. Nice review and great car!

I had a 1971 T-37...my first car when I was 17. It had a dented door when I bought it for $1200 with 63k miles. I went to the junk yard and found a 1971 GT-37 which was hit in the rear. I took the driver side door as well as the dash for my car. I remember the GT-37 had a 400-4bbl with a turbo 400, all in good shape along with the Pontiac rims and fairly new tires. I wanted the rims and tires but they wanted $100 and I needed the money for tuition.
T-37 was bare bones entry trim. I have seen a T-37 non GT trim with hood tach, 4-speed and 455 H.O it's in Florida and it's white. Posi rear axle on it too. low milage car hood pin option also. no stripe . it was purchased by original owner for the purpose of drag racing back in the day. His is nice also.
Yet another great video Lou!! I actually have heard of a GT-37 and T-37 and have seen one for sale in South Africa, but not a 455HO version. But still a great looking car either way!! Great sound to it as well wow!
A GT-37 with the 455 is extremely rare. Most I've seen were equipped with the 350 or 400 ci engines, the 455 became available second year of the GT- 37 production run.

Starting in '70.5 the Tempest was replaced with the T-37 name, the GT-37 when ordered with the 400 4 speed came with Ram Air III heads, it still had a 067 cam(instead of 068) and didn't have the Ram Air exhaust manifolds, it was sort of a replacement for the '69 Pontiac Custom S with a 350HO 330hp which was concieved as a Jr. Muscle Cars to dodge high insurance premiums and attract younger buyers like the Buick GS350 315hp, Olds W31 325hp or W45 Rallye 350 310hp, SS 327/350 Nova/Chevelle, Heavy Chevy or Malibu Sports Coupe 350/402...that were created around the same time or as a response to the Road Runner and Swinger/Duster 340.

The GT-37 is a sleeper drag car. They strip that sucker down to lighten it up. It would look better with a GTO ram air hood and induction system (of course, not stock, but better looking and +20 horsepower) thanks for the video, my guess is very few around. Oh, loving the 4 speed. Factory rating 335 hp/ 480 torque. Thanks so much Lou.
awesome car...have seen very few of these over the years and i think this is only the 2nd HO car...wonder if that's the original powerplant for it. always thought the aircleaner sticker on these were kinda fun with the groovy font. i believe the HO was the engine for 71-72 TA's too.

Never heard of this one. Look how crooked they put the Pontiac emblem on that side lol. It's like they didn't even care. I wonder if they gave these good gearing in the rear too then? I'd guess so based on what he said they built them for.
Never heard of the GT-37. I was 16 when this car came out and I recognize most of the muscle cars from the era. Love that it does not have ac, power steering or power brakes. Are the factory front brakes disc and is the suspension same as a GTO, including a rear sway bar?
I'd never even heard of such a car and what a cracker it is too - stunning! That poor guy in the deckchair just about got gassed, but he didn't look bothered in the slightest! ;'@D
That’s not a Pontiac Lope, that’s an aftermarket camshaft, they never sounded like that from the factory, I owned a TA in 71 with the 455 HO brand new. Still a nice car. 👍
@@Musclecar1972 "Hated" the 455 HO? Really? Because of low comp.? Because it didn't have long valves like the RAIV? Because it didn't have 1.65 Rockers? Maybe it wasn't a 421 SD, or even a 455 SD, but considering what was out there, and what was to come, it wasn't a "bad" engine. I'll take it over a lot of other engs. And by the way, the cam (?), he races pure stock drags. Never claimed it to be stock. So what.
@@joequillun7790 Had nothing to do with compression, they were not well thought out engines, they carried low oil pressure at idle, I went through 3 in that car during my ownership, which was less than a year, and I wasn’t alone, the dealership where I bought it was constantly working on them from other owners as well,,same issues. I’ve had a bunch of HP Pontiac’s, this was the worst. It wasn’t particularly powerful either, was adequate. A friend a few years later had a 455 SD, much superior engine in my opinion. I traded mine for a 1972 W-30 Olds 442, which I have to this day. I prefer the torque of the Olds and the reliability. You seem to have a bit of an attitude for not really knowing much about it, do some research, if it was anything good Pontiac wouldn’t have bothered to develop the later SD version. I owned a 1963 421 SD, Catalina, a 1965 GTO 389 Tri power 389 4 speed convertible, a 1966 GTO 389 Tri Power 4 speed coupe, and a 70 GTO 455 4 speed coupe, the 389 was not a particularly good engine either. FYI. And that HO sounds like it’s ready to come apart any minute, with the valve train rattling, probably zero lashed, but doesn’t sound great.
@@Musclecar1972 OK Mr. Pontiac expert, educate me. You've owned some nice classic Ponchos, and if you really did have the 71 new, then you're a tad older than me. (I had a 73 T/A in 76). Been a die hard Indian fan since Nunzi was in Cars magazine, and HO was in spiral bound. and had my share of fun over the years too, and no-one has ever claimed what you're claiming. You mentioned the 455 HO had lo-oil pressure, (at idle?), and went thru 3 in one yr. 3 what? Pumps? Engs? Shafts? The pumps in the HO is the same P/N as the 60 LB ones in the RA motors, the same oiling system, Moraine 400 brgs, and clearances. So you ended up with a Monday car. Sorry for that. Can't claim they're all bad. The heads were cast from the RAIV, with huge combustion chambers for lo-compr. Still not a bad Pontiac head. Aluminum intake, free flowing manifolds, lots of class racers in the day were highly successful with that eng. And they're still running strong, like the car in the video above. As for your 70 Goat 455 4 spd car, (wish I had it), is one I haven't owned, and is on my bucket list. Have a pleasant day.

Hi Robert, Nice! Happy to read you always liked these cars :-) Lou
I have driven thise cars. So very comfortable . Beautiful styling! Im glad he has the original wheels on it. So many make the mistake and take them off and change them for something that is less desirable. Gorgeous color!

Very nice. Something about those chrome bumpers that reminds me of my 70 Monte Carlo and what today's cars are lacking. classic looks
Hi Scott, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou P.S. Speaking of 1970 Monte Carlo....stay tuned.
Beautiful car! I see styling cues from the '68 Grand Prix, especially at the back.

Hi Uri, I agree, a great car to save, Lou
Never heard of a GT 47 that looks a really cool car. ❤
Me neither. Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car Derek :-)
Love those cars from '62 - '72 !!! 🐱

Good old fashion American horsepower. Poor guy got blasted with the exhaust sitting behind the car.
Hi Larry, "Good old fashion American horsepower" Just the way we like it :-) Lou
HI Tom, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Hi Michael, Happy to read this car brings back memories of the car you remember in Florida :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Yet another great video Lou!! I actually have heard of a GT-37 and T-37 and have seen one for sale in South Africa, but not a 455HO version. But still a great looking car either way!! Great sound to it as well wow!
Hi Justin, Happy to read you've heard of a GT-37 :-) Glad to read you enjoy the looks and sounds of this car, Lou
A GT-37 with the 455 is extremely rare. Most I've seen were equipped with the 350 or 400 ci engines, the 455 became available second year of the GT- 37 production run.
Hi Spider Man, Happy to read you appreciate the rarity of seeing this car today. Lou
Great car . One of the last great Pontiac's that could dust almost anything on the street. Roger Wydler

I liked the explanation of the GT37 from the owner
I thought the explanation was very helpful.

Hi Steve, I didn't know about this one either. My pleasure sharing this car with you, Lou
Pontiac offered both the T-37 and GT-37--insurance beaters designed to compete with Road Runners, Fairlane/Torino Cobras, Duster 340s etc.
Thank you for sharing.
From what i remember, this option was supposed to beat rhe insurance companies high rates, you could get it with 350 2bbl engines up to this engine with stops in between. I think carpeting was even a option. Beautiful car and different color combination.

By 71 the compression ratios started to drop & cars were being strangled by pollution control. Pontiac kept it going thru 74 w/ the SD 455 TA. Love GTO & lovely color. Very rare car.

Duck big bro Lou! Twice!! THWAK....THWAK....that's both my floppy DC sneaks landing on the far wall, literally blown off my tubesocked feet, man 😜lol! This gorgeous 70's gold Pontiac is EPIC and pure and badass American to the metallic bone. Amazing to see her, what a unique find. All lopey exhaust, too.....super hot!!

I never heard of this one either. Happy to share this car with you.
Never heard of the GT-37. I was 16 when this car came out and I recognize most of the muscle cars from the era. Love that it does not have ac, power steering or power brakes. Are the factory front brakes disc and is the suspension same as a GTO, including a rear sway bar?
Hi Bert, I've never heard of one either so I'm hoping a Viewer can share knowledge to your questions. Lou
Nice car. No power steering, no power brakes, and a heavy duty manual transmission, you'd need "muscles" to drive this car.😅
Hi George, You're right, you need muscles to drive this Muscle Car :-) Lou

That’s not a Pontiac Lope, that’s an aftermarket camshaft, they never sounded like that from the factory, I owned a TA in 71 with the 455 HO brand new. Still a nice car. 👍
Hi W-30 OLDS, Happy to read you had a cool TA in 1971 :-) Lou
@@loucostabile It was a beautiful car, I just hated that HO engine, was not one of Pontiac’s best ideas.
