What makes a Jeep so special to drive is the fun you have with it. From mods, wheeling, taking the top off, and enjoying a summer day. A TJ will not beat a daily commuter on cost savings, but me and anyone who likes to enjoy life gives up those cost benefits for an exciting vehicle experience. After all we spend a lot of our life in vehicles, would rather be in my TJ than a Prius.
I have had mine since 1996. We started our journey together in late 1996. She was just a baby 1997 TJ Sport with a cute 11 miles on the odometer. I have never grown tired of my dear Stargazer. She is my love, my life, my dream come true.
I daily drove my 2001 TJ for a little over 5 years. I bought it with 80,000 miles, and it now has 143,500. It's a 4.0 liter, 5 speed manual. Super great visibility, easy to park and maneuver around. Most reliable vehicle I've ever owned. It's never left me stranded anywhere. It's truly a shame that Chrysler killed off the 4.0 inline six...
I have been driving mine for off road, trails, rural roads, suburban driving, and urban driving since 1996. I never thought I would have her this long. But as the new vehicles keep coming out, my aging TJ looks better and better every year. I would actually be taking a huge step backwards if I were to get something modern.
Jeep TJ's are not only fun to drive, easy to modify, look awesome when lifted and have big tires, you turn heads, and you get saluted from other Jeep guys.
I got mine in 1996 as a 1997. It is by far the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned. What it lacks in fuel economy, it more than makes up for it in supernatural reliability. It is more economical than a new fuel economy vehicle with a payment. I do not see how purchasing a vehicle that makes 39 to 42 miles to the gallon is economical if you have to pay a very expensive payment. My fuel usage is far under a payment.
Could not agree more with you! I'm rebuilding my 00 TJ right now, got over 250,000 on it, getting a new engine and upgrading a number of the systems. My Australian Shepherds love it...
I live in New York City and daily drive a 05 TJ Rubi, hands down the best city vehicle. Parking is so easy with the short wheelbase and tight turning radius (no driveway, I street park). With steel bumpers you don’t need to worry about someone bumping your car and damaging it lol. Don’t need to worry about horrible road conditions & potholes. Sitting in traffic I’m comfortable even with a manual - so easy to drive. I think a lot of people in the city have realized this, I see TJs EVERYWHERE. Just make sure you have a hardtop lol
I went from a 2004 Ford Ranger to a 2005 TJ. Such an upgrade, I do drive on the highway half an hour to work one way and it’s not too bad, I’ve had to get used to it but it don’t really notice it anymore. I love it!!
Absolutely love love love my 99 TJ..it has been my daily driver for 20 years now. I am 60, and since my divorce, have learned to do all the work on it myself! Rear u joints are next..thank you for your channel!
I Always wanted a jeep and live in CA where gas is ridiculous expensive. Sold my 07 Prius and was lucky enough to find an 02 TJ 4 litre manual straight line with 68000 miles. With all the mods it looks great and is a blast to drive. Gas mileage at about 15 mpg but worth every penny. Not missing the Prius at all.
I daily a 2005 4 cyl manual and I agree with everything you said in this video. With the soft top, it can definitely get loud, which can make conversations hard. Driving solo, there isn't a big issue with that though. On the highway, I can generally keep up with traffic going 65-75 but there won't be any passing going on. It can definitely get you from point A to point B. The interior is very basic. I think the seats are definitely not bad or uncomfortable but they're not the best either (but that may have to do with me being 6'2"). With that said, I absolutely love it and wouldn't trade it for anything. Well, maybe an LJ or a rubi... Your vids have helped me out a lot, man. I appreciate the content and look forward to more in the future. Much love from Florida, stay warm, hahaha.
I daily an '04 WJ with a 4.0 in line 6 automatic and I absolutely love it, it does what I need. She has a 2in lift and 255/70 Toyo open country 2 AT tires and it definitely has a race truck feel to it, especially with loud exhaust. I get about 17mpg in town and about 21mpg highway. I will love it forever but I do want to try out TJ or JK style jeep for additional fun.
Family of 4 here. My two kids, 4 and 1, love it. I got a bike rack on the spare tire that can also carry a stroller. Plenty of room for a diaper bag behind the back seat. I also tow it behind my 40ft motorcoach for family vacations. That is another special feature that not many vehicles can support, 4 down towing. 2001 tj sport 4.0.
@@charlestarloski8383 in the jeep I just used the seatbelts to hold in the car seats since there was no built-in anchore points. In my motorcoach I had to install some tie-down points inside a couch frame that I hooked the car seats clips to.
Long Commutes: get a quiet muffler as that helps...noisy 4.0L sixes are typically for Millennials only, especially of the G.I. variety or even the Zoomer gen. Also, get a SYE and a double cardan driveshaft = less vibes. Also, good AT tires like BFG KO2's, and not mudders, make for a good daily driver and can still go off pavement w/o issues. Been daily driving a '03 Jeep TJ 4.0L 5-speed in Alaska (plus 1 rd. trip Alcan trip to Lower48) since new!
Great video as always, i don't have to daily mine because luckily my company provides me a vehicle and gas card, but i did daily a TJ and a JK (both manuals) in the past and they were both great. Especially in the Winter. I honestly wish i could take my Jeep to work sometimes, jealous that you get to drive your every day! Mine sits for weeks sometimes other than a trip to Dairy Queen and back every once in a while! And of course back and forth to various offroad parks. Can't wait to take my new TJ Rubicon out for the first time!
Appreciate the tips man. This spring im coming home from my deployment with the Guard and I am going to get a mid year wrangler. The prices are fantastic and I can not wait to play up in the mountains with it!
I am a single dad of 1 and I daily drive a lifted 1999 TJ. I have the rear seats and all hardware removed and just use it as a 2 seater. Both my daughter and myself love my jeep. It's a great family car lol
I drive a 06 jeep tj with 4 inch lift and 35's its awesome 13 yrs old and drives like a champ!! I'm in Hawaii and love the soft top noise don't bother me a bit just adds character, just installed a CB with dual 8 foot antennas on the rear, I love my jeep best vehicle I ever owned especially driving with the top down and doors off trailing past waterfalls.
$35 out here to to fill up my LJ. California is nuts. I lived there for 28 years. As soon as I hit 28 I moved to Colorado. Don’t regret it, love Colorado and my $$$ goes way further. But I still love LA. Visit family every year. 2 weeks tops then I’m ready to leave LA and come home.
20 miles pr gallon on the freeway? That’s awesome. I never measured mine but I get between 15-16 mpg combined. What can I do to improve my mileage? I have a 2005 LJ “Rubihara” 6 speed manual completely stock. Any advice? As always thanks for the great videos.
I live on St.kitts and Nevis (island in the Caribbean) and I have owned a TJ for my time here. Parts here are expensive for all cars and mechanics are unreliable but with the Jeep I have had no issues and it is so easy to work on and do it mostly myself. The most well-rounded machine!
Slap some 80's music in it, KC lights, boom i couldn't think of a better truck to drive every day for me also i love the feeling of the road on my motorcycle, i cant wait to feel a summer day with no doors!!!
I dont understand why some people put a lot of money on they jeeps to not enjoy them! I have a jeep yj for 18 yrs 7 inch lift with 35s and i dont want to know about another vehicle i dont even care about new technology. I will continue having fun with my daily lifted jeep! And yes is a jeep thing other people wont understand exept us! Nice looking tj brother!
But when you want satisfy a craving for something tasty, nothing is easier and tastier than a big fat burger! Cow is a great description for our old TJ. There is nothing wrong with a cow. They are even considered holy in India.
Ive daily drove an XJ for the last few years. They do decent, fit a lot of stuff. Picking up my first TJ this Saturday. Will be daily driving that as well.
Had one for 6 years and had 2 car seats in the back for 4 and 1 year olds. I had a manual and never had any issues. Even did a couple of 6 hour one way trips to Orlando. Yes it’s fine for a daily driver and family car.
Have been looking for a tj for a while now got mine 2 months ago Florida 2000 sport wrangler 1 owner stock, have been making short videos on what I have done hope to upload mine soon, have done things that I have not seen other tj owners do and could not find videos so I made mine to help others out will update everyone soon. Keep on rolling tj's!
Daily drove a Cherokee from 1996-1999. Daily drove my TJ from 1999 when I bought it new until 2016 when my rear diff blew. Both great daily drivers. Still own the TJ and am going to get it going again this summer.
Best purchase ever made not know a lot about jeeps 2002 bought my TJ 2.5 SE new, if I would have researched would have got the 4.0. With that said almost 20 years later the TJ sill my daily driver with 360,000 Km and not one let down amazing lil Jeep love it
I daily drove a 2000 TJ SE with the four cylinder for three years and a 20001 Sport with a six cylinder for seven years. Both stick. They were great. I drove a lot for my job as a newspaper photographer. Highway, city, blizzards, nothing beat driving my TJ's.
One thing is good to mention. I have a 98 Wrangler TJ, I can pull it behind my 30'-0' Motor home, I couldn't do that with a 4 door and go where I like to go. And its a load of fun like Tyler said.
Enjoyed this video. I love driving my TJ. I’ll take it to work simply for the overall experience when summer hits. Right now I’m I bounce around town and take an old G35 to work. TJs hardtop has been hung in the garage and hasn’t come down since. Ride to live!
I just found a 2000 TJ, has 35's 136k miles, Az car so no rust at all. It was a toad RV dinghy, so a lot of the miles are from towing. White and tan. Just love the look. Prices are out of this world. What muffler was on your rig, sounds good. As of today, gas is $3.25, I paid $12500 and could probably turn it around and make a couple of grand.
I’ve daily driven my manual 98 4.0 for 5 years and wouldn’t want anything else I’m young I’m 22 got the car at 16 but I love cars and I just love how raw the tj is you hear everything taking the doors and top off in az when it’s cool is the best thing the only thing that sucks is the gas mileage but for me is smiles per gallon
Yes, I daily my ‘98 TJ Hardtop. Almost stock. Banks Power Pack; Ram Air Intake, High Flow Monster Exhaust, Bigger Exhaust Manifold, a Programmer, and I add a High Flow Catalytic Converter. Sounds really good. Mine came from the factory with the 30” wheel and tire group. No lift, yet. garage is too short.
Definitely pro's and con's to daily driver, but I'll say I just completed a basic build "everyday TJ" on my channel jeepNdirt for my dad who needed a daily driver / forest service road vehicle / basic off road setup. The end result was really basic, impressive, reliable, and zippy. I love that little jeep on 3.5 inches and 33's. (Note I'm at 21 years of ownership of a built YJ that I used for daily driving for many years with the 3 speed auto and 35's and 4.10 gears and never complained except for when I had to take interstate trips and had to keep it at 65 lol. ) My new (to me) built 2018 built JLUR on 38's (as seen on my channel) takes care of the highway issue, but I love my dads TJ as it's like having a sports car (on 33's) but still have the ability to go off road. Great stuff man.
I have daily drove my tj for 7 years now, i have 2.5 4 cylinder in mine. I push it to the max with a 4inch lift and pushing 33s. My average is 13 miles to a gallon. I love my jeep, im actually in the process of fixing it up. I wouldnt surgest it for a 1st vehicle, especially if you have snow in your area. The short base at times could be quite difficult and with in experienced driver they would most likely freak out and get the result that no one wants. With that said, i would buy it again and the jeep will be with me and my family forever
Just bought myself a 1997 tj. The car is in such great condition. Its actually painted artic blue. The car came with a hard top and doors. All orginal parts. Cant wait to modify it
Excellent post! I have a lifted 01' TJ daily. I have 30 mile commute to work and love every inch of the ride. It's a 2.5L manual and VERY reliable/bulletproof. Yes, it's slow and bouncy, but it's all part of the Jeep experience. I wanted a motorcycle, but health reasons say no, so I bought the TJ as a "toy", but can't leave it at home. I drive it more than my newer Ram. I go doorless/topless from May through October. Then, snow season is just as fun!!
I used to own a 98 two door RAV4 which was awesome for Canadian winter driving. I would love to get a TJ but a manual and small commuter is super hard to find these days.
I have a 2006 TJ 4.0L (same color) and I daily drive it without any issues! Just did 170 miles on it yesterday and it was fine other than being on the turnpike on a windy day, which kinda sucked having a soft top! It's rare I'm on the turnpike or Interstate, so other than that, it's fine for daily commutes!
I bought mine as a weekender but I could daily it. I’d rather daily a more comfortable ride though. The noise and bumps beat you up after a long day. Road trips also make your butt numb. Parking it is a dream compared to my truck. All in all it’s Fun to be high up in a capable iconic vehicle and Off-roading is amazing!!
I love my 2000 TJ as I'm nice and high up so great visibility and in cold TJ heaters are the best. Highway though I stay away as soft top it's like a wind tunnel so do mostly local street driving. Took rear seat out so lots of space for golf clubs and fishing gear. Good review Kyle.
I daily my TJ (04 rubicon) and it’s pretty fun, I have a 4 inch lift and 1 inch body lift with 35’s and stock gearing so it doesn’t make good mpg, usually about 12, but if you want a cheap jeep that you can daily I would recommend a TJ or a JK, I wouldn’t recommend a JK with the 3.8 v6 as they aren’t as good as the newer 3.6’s but either way it’s a fun experience.
Stop and go urban in a standard is a pain. Otherwise I have driven across country, in town, hills, etc. No problems. I always tried to pass through LA at 3am in the morning to avoid a 5 hour knee aching 20mph ride.
I just got my first Jeep last year, it's a 2000 TJ with the 2.5,140,000 miles on it when bought,168,000 now,it does have the 2.5 Rattle not worth a damn on the hwy ( mpg) wise, soft top, zipper on back window broke so no back window went all winter with out a back window up here in Northern Arizona, great heater!Lol, buy it is my daily Driver, and I spend about 60/40 Hwy/offroad in it and wouldn't trade it for the world, or maybe a new Gladiator just for the towing capabilities Love my TJ!😎😎
I drive my '02 TJ on the freeway at 70+mph and it's not bad now that I put small airbags in the rear coil springs and keep 10 lbs in them. Before that I did not like driving much over 60-65 but driving 70-75 the MPG drops from 19 to 17 and even an occasional 80mph is not scary as it use to be. BUT . . . mine is stock suspension. I came here looking for daily driver lift kit advice.
The Twill Bestop for the TJ is totally silent and insulates better than a hardtop. I daily drive 68 miles on 35s on my TJ and there are almost no ripples in my morning coffee during my trips. FYI TJ cup holders do suck soooo bad. Very nimble at factory length and one of the funniest Jeeps to drive.
Have had 5 TJ's since I was 16 (43 now).... The one downside that gets under my skin every year is when winter hits. The short wheel base, how light the TJ's are.... On ice or slick conditions (Slush), the TJ will spin like crazy. Packed Snow and Snow, throw it in 4 High and it'll get you where you need to go. Threw some 31" studded tires and use those during the winter. BUT on hills, slopes with slick conditions... It's the #1 thing I hate about all the TJ's I've owned. Everything else I've loved and is why I've only owned TJ's since I was 16.
@@masonsunderland8126 I'm buying tires based on experience and recommendations. What are you using for those Colorado winters? I will look into them considering I'm having to buy a new set of tires here soon.
@@Andrew-kj4nl 33x12.50, soon to be going to a 35x12.50. I use them all year round. Skinnier tires (I.E. 33x10.50) are better in most ways if you care less about the visual appearance. So i'd recommend a 33x10.50 falken wildpeak if you can find it.

I was not a fan of Red Jeeps till I saw this one! Nice build! Coming from a former JK owner TJ is the way to go.
Thanks brother!
I own one 😁
Best purchase ever made not know a lot about jeeps 2002 bought my TJ 2.5 SE new, if I would have researched would have got the 4.0. With that said almost 20 years later the TJ sill my daily driver with 360,000 Km and not one let down amazing lil Jeep love it
Very cool!
I daily drove a 2000 TJ SE with the four cylinder for three years and a 20001 Sport with a six cylinder for seven years. Both stick. They were great. I drove a lot for my job as a newspaper photographer. Highway, city, blizzards, nothing beat driving my TJ's.
I'm gonna daily my new JT definitely.
One thing is good to mention. I have a 98 Wrangler TJ,
I can pull it behind my 30'-0' Motor home, I couldn't do that with a 4 door and go where I like to go.
And its a load of fun like Tyler said.
I’m considering an 06 LJ so this was helpful
Love my 6 speed 2005 LJ “Rubihara”
lame drive your jeep and enjoy it!
Good! Thanks brother!
Joseph Penkal
Is yours a Rubihara also?
Thanks! muffler delete
Yes my 2000 is my new daily driver and love it!
$45 fills my tank , i daily my 04 sport edition and love it .
@Kenzie I'm also curious how long a tank last
Just bought my first jeep. A 2005 tj. Loving the videos.
I daily a TJ as my first real car and I love it all the time, I’m fixing it up and that makes it even better.
I daily mine! Totally awesome to drive. That aerodynamics pic made my day
Definitely pro's and con's to daily driver, but I'll say I just completed a basic build "everyday TJ" on my channel jeepNdirt for my dad who needed a daily driver / forest service road vehicle / basic off road setup.
Cant wait to modify it
When a TJ owner calls it a “car”…😩😆
Excellent post! I have a lifted 01' TJ daily. I have 30 mile commute to work and love every inch of the ride. It's a 2.5L manual and VERY reliable/bulletproof. Yes, it's slow and bouncy, but it's all part of the Jeep experience. I wanted a motorcycle, but health reasons say no, so I bought the TJ as a "toy", but can't leave it at home. I drive it more than my newer Ram. I go doorless/topless from May through October. Then, snow season is just as fun!!
Thank you!
I still daily my YJ. It's about the driving experience and having fun. Plus keeping miles off my truck is a plus too
I can’t wait to get my dads 1997 Sahara it going to be so much fun to drive Manual.
Im dailying a YJ lol. 1988, 30 mile daily commute. ITs fun, its loud, its uncomfortable and i love it
TJs are my favorite Jeep Wrangler variant. I start driving next year and I really want one.
TJ's are wonderful daily drivers!
I Daily My 2006 TJ , Love The Heck Out Of It !!!
I used to own a 98 two door RAV4 which was awesome for Canadian winter driving. I would love to get a TJ but a manual and small commuter is super hard to find these days.
Yes I do daily my 04 TJ, love it!
Same here!
My wife daily drives a 1995 Jeep YJ. Possibly going to get a TJ for some improved comfort
Yup! I daily about an hr a day. Never get tired of driving a TJ
Fun fact. I did my drivers test in a TJ. Parallel parking was so easy with it
Agreed I daily a TJ I have 33s and 4 inch lift. They are alot of fun to drive!
Just sold my 95 YJ and picked up a 2002 TJ from the original owner with 37000 original miles. So far I am very pleased with this vehicle.
Very cool!
TJs are awesome I agree that if you’re driving mostly on highways the soft top gets noisy and could get annoying
Thank you!
How’s it hold up with 35’s in stock gears? I’m worried to go over 33’s lol
It's fantastic
Do you have the dana44 or 35?
D44
when he said it was 25-30 bucks to fill up the whole tank 😫😫😫😫
Perfect daily for a small commute, recently started doing 150km/day and not so fun.
Stop and go urban in a standard is a pain. Otherwise I have driven across country, in town, hills, etc. No problems. I always tried to pass through LA at 3am in the morning to avoid a 5 hour knee aching 20mph ride.
I’m currently drive JKUR for daily , but I want TJ for summer toy ! Those 4.0 sounds really good !
But not buy
I daily my tj and I love it. I wish mine was a manual though
I love driving my TJ every day!
Helpful video. The footage of your Jeep in the snow was cool to see, even though I live in SoCal lol
That's why you get a 04-06 unlimited! My family of 5 fits just fine !
I know there are more comfortable vehicles out there, but nothing beats driving my Jeep
Daily mine! Good vehicle to daily drive.
I haven’t had experienced that at all, in fact I use 2 wheel drive for 99% of the Colorado winter. Sounds like a tire selection issue
@@masonsunderland8126 I'm buying tires based on experience and recommendations. What are you using for those Colorado winters? I will look into them considering I'm having to buy a new set of tires here soon.
@@Andrew-kj4nl Falken wildpeak AT3Ws have been incredible in slippery conditions.
@@masonsunderland8126 What size tires do you use? Also, do you use these only during winter or all year round?
@@Andrew-kj4nl 33x12.50, soon to be going to a 35x12.50. I use them all year round. Skinnier tires (I.E. 33x10.50) are better in most ways if you care less about the visual appearance. So i'd recommend a 33x10.50 falken wildpeak if you can find it.
I have a 2001 XJ as a daily. I’d like to get a second daily and it would definitely be a TJ.
Very cool! I love XJs
I really enjoyed your video. thanx mate. i have a 2004 Sport and enjoy driving it
Thanks man! Very cool!
this video was very informative. . . im a motorcycle guy but I NEED a commuter to get to my normie job. . . . .I think i'll get a TJ as a compromise.
You will love it!
