      Speaking of machinery, if he routed a small tub of water from the waterfall over to the thing, he could turn it into a water hammer and have it automatically actuate the pump, essentially allowing the pond to be cycled continuously, or he could just run the tube straight into the pond and have it waterfall in, achieving similar results, and put like a drain that is high up, wide but also flat in order to allow water to leave but nothing else.

    AWESOME. I love that you're improving the pond for the life of the fish! This is a great step. I'd love to see future videos of the pond, see how the fish do with this new filter (so awesome and clever) and if they continue to gasp or if this is enough aeration to stop it from happening. So cool!

      Or he could use the halves of bamboo to pipe over water and just use a weighted lever system with the water to operate the pump. Would be a lot easier and more effective than the windmill probably.

    • @invaderzim3015
      @invaderzim3015 6 років тому +11

      scno0B1 Us or THEY creating 'better' products? Is Siri or a Snuggie really a necessity in day to day life? All it's done is removed our sense of self sufficiency, self preservation and self worth. We rely heavily other people's creations like the car and hot water heater. No school taught us how to be self reliant, nay, they taught us it's necessary to drive 97 miles to learn to be a heating/refrigeration tech so we can cook our frozen dinners and afford insurance to drive our cars to walmart. We've reached a pinnacle where hunting, foraging and housing comes from a big box store. Convenience? Sure...but teaching someone to be self reliant and not a total entitled as***le because they have 2 million subs on a fortnite YT channel. If everyone knew or was taught to be self reliant...

    Excellent work, but I think you may improve the design increasing the wall in the pump pool to have more volume of water, and also plant some algae there to work as natural filters, so the acidic and amonia in the ponds will be regulated in a more efficient way.

    I have a good idea to do it automatically. Create a water wheel. Then stick that end of the stick to the corner of the wheel. While having a bamboo shoot pours water onto the wheel. Allowing the pump to generate its own momentum. Basically like old classic train wheels.
    If not tie a bucket to the end of that stick that has holes in the bottom of it. Then have water pour into the bucket using a different bamboo stick that would flow water into it and it will go up and down every time the bucket loses and gains water.

    • @jlee7740

      This wont work because there is no momentum to start with. There is no source of flowing water which creates the momentum for the water wheel...

      That moment when no one has ever seen a Japanese Shishi-odoshi. *face palm*
      If he literally creates a trench from the stream back to his base camp. Yet uses the bamboo shoot as a water pipe line that guides back to his base camp. He wouldn't have to worry about water fueling it. That's a good week worth of work.
      Cutting down enough bambaoo to create a pipeline. Digging a 3 to 6 foot trench close towards the river. Laying down the bamboo line before exposing it to the river. Seal up the trench with dirt and patting it down and then laying rocks concrete down to pack it in. Create a small water well to hold the tipping bamboo shoot on that's connected to water wheel that has a water scoop that leads to end of the pipe at his base camp. That pours water onto the wheel. Thus forcing the wheel to turn. Thus generating automatically the up and down motion. Being the force of the stream will rush water down the pipeline onto the wheel as the extra water is dispersed into the well.
      I'm shocked that people think so little. If he literally created this system and creates a miniature well. Not only would it supply water for the wheel, but he could work it for his plants and connect it to his drinking water filtration system. Like you really don't need any modern heavys tools at all. The Japanese and Mansa Musa people in Africa figured this out centuries ago. What do they teach you guys at school?
      If he did this he wouldn't have to manually do anything. In regards to his plumbing issues. The only thing he would have to do manually is change his chickens drinking water and that's it. Even the Persians knew how to do this ages ago but kids now of days struggle on the thought lol. Now that's what funny. Personally I thought it was common sense but these comments shows otherwise.

    • @mindyours752
      @mindyours752 6 років тому

      Just wanted to show examples to prove my point data.whicdn.com/images/304647281/original.gif
      The reason I would prefer the the water wheel to be connected to the bamboo water pump shoot is so that it creates a continuous rapid up and down motion as the water drips over the wheel. Its way faster then waiting for the water to fill up the bamboo shoot for it to go up and down. It's a continuous motion if has that old fashion train wheel turning connection going for it as the water fuels its continuous momentum.

      He doesn't have to filter the entire pond. It's largely for introducing oxygen to the water. As long as there is water in the upper basin, he doesn't have to pump for a while.

      What I was wondering though, what if there's a heavy rain. Won't the pond overflow then from all the exess water? Or am I missing something here?

    There's no need to automate it. It seems fun to do that while you pond and chill in that "holiday hut". No need to hurry too, because the filter takes time to bring the water down, automatic system for it will just flood the filter, except you really want to make unecessary complex mechanism.

    The fish are gasping for air. The water isn't oxygenated enough. They're in distress.

      someone else said they're doing that because the concrete hasn't settled yet so the Ph and CO2 will be too high for a while.

    • @user-ty5di3ku6o
      @user-ty5di3ku6o 6 років тому

      No That has nothing to do with CO2. I'm not sure how crude concrete would affect ph. Regardless of the reason, high CO2 = suffocation and death. I bet these fish died and were replaced. Perhaps more than once.

    You probably shouldn't have made the pump housing out of bamboo and then cemented it into place. Being exposed to water like that it'll rot reasonably quickly and will not be easily removed and replaced. A fired clay housing would have been much more durable and resistant to water damage, and wouldn't rot in a few months like the bamboo one there.

    • @blackbway
      @blackbway 6 років тому +7

      i guarantee that the bamboo will not rot in a few years. also if he needs to change it, he can just lift the whole thing up, the bamboos are just sitting on the stones.

    • @BB-mq3nn
      @BB-mq3nn 6 років тому +5

      Bamboo used in modern buildings is treated to resist water. This is completely untreated and unvarnished stuff submerged in water (with frequent agitation of the water to introduce additional oxygen) It's about the ideal situation to lead to rot.

      He's setting himself up for the filter repair video 6 months down the road. In all honesty though, he does great work but surely some of it is trial and error. If something doesn't work so well, im guessing he will fix or improve it. One failure or possible problem just means exciting creative answers!

    • @fakasi
      @fakasi 6 років тому +13

      I can say from experience that the bamboo is fine and will last a long time, idk what ur on about. It doesn’t need to be treated either. I have a stream fed by a natural spring in my back yard and run bamboo half pipes for irrigation. Some people just like to talk out their ass smh..

    • @blackbway
      @blackbway 6 років тому +7

      Brian Bochenek have you ever made or used bamboo fish pots? I have plus many more things using bamboo that involves water. Rafts, even make shift bridges to cross small bodies of water. I can tell you that bamboo does not rot that easily

    Primitive life : Growing Weed

    • @alliebonesVODs
      @alliebonesVODs 6 років тому

      If you're in a good enough climate for it (i.e. you have at least 3 months where it won't drop below freezing, ideally sticking around room temperature with moderate humidity), all you'd need to do is put the seeds in some loamy soil and let nature take care of it from there. It's called 'weed' because it grows like one - it's pretty hardy and self-reliant.
      Only upkeep they'd really need is pruning the male plants if you don't have sexed seeds and even that's not mandatory it'll just increase quality by preventing the buds growing seeds.
