Hello Guys, The original "Cloud capped Star" is 1960 film directed by Legend Ritwik Ghatak. And this one is 2013 film, it is the Biography of that Legendary director "Ritwik Ghatak". Watch the original first, then watch it. Both films are Great. You have the DVDs of original one.
Original movie ta better but ota r bhalo trailer nae. 😅
agreed
Original one is 100 times better.
I agree.
Original moie is a must watch.
Ritwik Ghatak is considered by many, as the greatest film director ever coming out of India. He was a contemporary of Satyajit Ray, and he along with Ray was instrumental in bringing a new wave in Indian cinema. He was not much successful in his lifetime, because people either didn't understand his films, or his films made them uncomfortable. He spent his last years in mental asylum and died bankrupt. It was only much much later after his death, international film societies started evaluating his masterpieces. Satyajit Ray revered him as a great, and said it on multiple occasions that we don't have the intellectual mental faculty to appreciate his films, they are like abstract paintings. But Ghatak remained unapologetic with his filmmaking till his last day, though his films kept getting rejected by people...
Watch original 'Meghe Dhaka Tara' first, it is part of cinema study in most of the film schools in the world.
So, this film is based on the life of Ritwik Ghatak, a legendary filmmaker of Bengal of all time. "Meghe Dhaka Tara" was one of his masterpieces, that was released in 1960's. I think you should watch some of his works. He is one of my personal favourites.
Meghe Dhaka Tara (1960) - directed by Ritwick Ghatak
Meghe Dhaka Tara (2013) - about the life of director Ritwick Ghatak.
'loaded with Bengalis!!!!' it's a Bengali film, what else do you expect?? 😂😂😂
@Zinia Sarkar that's a different thing, but I agree 😂😂
@Zinia Sarkar it's hightime that we stop offending fellow Indians with provincial jabs
This is not a remake of the older film. This film is about the life of a legendary award winning bengali film director Ritwik Ghatak. One of his many remarkable movies was 'Meghe Dhaka Tara' (A Star behind the cloud), which has a different story. Kamaleswar Mukherjee only took the name for this movie. The name is probably indicating Ritwik Ghatak himself as 'A star behind the cloud', which pretty much sums up the life of the legendary director Ritwik Ghatak.
All Bengalis don't have 'jee' at last, but many Brahmins of Bengal have that!
Need not be true
@@sahayapurv i am bengali as well
@@tulanasom6818 What about Roy ?
Mains or advanced?
"Roy" isn't a Brahmin surname (generally speaking). My mother's family is "Roy".
They mentioned Chatterjee, Banerjee , mukherjee in this video। Korbin thought all Bengalis have "Jęė" in their surname, which is not the case.
This is Extremely Good Film, but before watching this watch the original one Directed by Ritwik Ghatak, that's a All time Great film. This is the biography of Ritwik Ghatak. You have the DVDs of the original one.
Ghatak was brilliant. But self-destructive as well. He was a seeker. Watch ‘Komol Gandhar’ to see music being used almost as a protagonist. It’s extraordinary in the way he showcased pain of separation. Above all, he mourned the division of Bengal. It’s a recurring theme in all his work.
Btw, the ‘jee’ suffix in names is a colonial legacy. Many Indian names were simplified to make the white master’s life easier. In this case the Sanskrit suffix ‘upadhyay’ was shortened to ‘ji’. Ji is a suffix used to show respect. So Corbinji, Rickji, Rahulji, etc. All upadhyay names are Brahmin priests. So Bandopadhyay = Bannerji, etc. The odd-man out is Gangopadhyay. They ended up not as as Gangerji/Gannerji but as Ganguly 🙂
All ‘gupta’ suffix - like Dasgupta, Sengupta, Kargupta, etc, are Vaidya Brahmins, or Brahmins who chose medicine and surgery over priesthood.
Bangla literature is the powerhouse of All Indian culture.
Ritwick Ghatak was a contemporary of Satyajit Ray and Mrinal Sen. He was a legendary director but got overshadowed by the other two. Please learn more about him.
When we requested it, we requested the original one.. by Ritwick Ghatak...
The original one doesn't have a good trailer.
Watch the original one by ritwik ghatak.
This one is new based on the directors life and struggles.
Styajit, Ritwik, Mrinal... The trinity. Its like Fellini, Bergman, Truffaut
Rittwik Ghatak was the director of all directors. You have seen Satyajot Ray, now watch any of Ghatak's film. You would certainly love it.
Those surnames (last name) are among Brahmins and not only surname in Bengali community.
1. Mukherjee/Mukhopadhyay
2. Banerjee/ Bandyopadhyay
3. Ganguly/ Gangopadhyay
4. Chatterjee/ Chattopadhyay
Kindly watch 'Baishe Srabon' & 'Chotushkone' (won national film awards) directed by Srijit Mukherjee.
Why surnames with slash(/) ? Mukharjee and mukhopadhya r same?😮
@@swatisaini6447 Yes
swati saini Yes mam...Mukherjee is just the anglicisation...a result of affidavit😂😂.
@@Abhitweezz how they can be same?
@@swatisaini6447 The traditional Bengali version is Mukhopaddhae, which is sometimes written Mukhopadhyay, which is alternately spelled as Mookerjee or Mukherji.
This is the biopic of Ritwick Ghatak, the legendary filmmaker, director of the original "Meghe Dhaka Tara"-1960 and not a remake.
This man is right up there with all the legendary directors of the world, ever. His works are today studied in film schools just alongside legends like Truffaut and Kurosawa.
Guys this is the biopic of the great director Ritwik Ghatak, while it's a beautiful film, it has a lot of references to Ghatak's films which you won't understand unless you've seen some of his films like Meghe Dhaka Tara (1963), Ajantrik, Bari Theke Paliye, or Jukti Tokko ar Goppo. So please watch some Ghatak films before you watch this biopic.
This film is awesome and it's kind of a biopic of Rittwik ghatak..the director u were talking about.. please watch this..
No no no no. This is the wrong Meghe Dhaka Tara. Ritwik Ghatak's masterpiece of the same name released in 1960 and remains one of the m ost powerful movies ever made. You can call Ghatak a polar opposite of Ray. While Ray came from privilage and Money, Ghatak slummed it on the streets performing street plays and one acters. He was a member of the Indian People's Theatre Association (IPTA), the left leaning association of artists who spoke of the people - their hopes, dreams, pains and aspirations. While Ray believed in the Italian neo-realism, Ghatak embraced popular tropes like melodrama. In fact the very last scene of the original MDT is a study in the proper use of melodrama, that balancing act between breaking your heart and going over the top. While Ray reveled in international acclaim and awards, Ghatak, in his own lifetime did not get the acclaim he deserved. Like one of the characters in his films, he wasted away in alcohol and within the mazes of his mind
Very good film especially for someone who is passionate towards Bengal and wants to know more about it and the heartbreaking period of partition in Bengal
Before watching this watch all the films of Ritwik Ghatak. The 1960 "Meghe Dhaka Tara" one is the film directed by Ritwik Ghatak, his best work to be precise. Among other films "Jukti, torko ar goppo", "Titas ekti nodir naam" (restored and presented in some platform by Martin Scorsese recently), "Ajantrik" (Inspiration behind Taxi Driver by Martin Scorsese) and many more. This film is based on the life of Ritwik Ghatak played by Sashwata Chatterjee (Bob Bishwas of Kahaani). Before watching this know about Ritwik Ghatak and political scenario of Bengal during and post-partition. Watch original "Meghe Dhaka Tara" at least before watching that. You have the DVD of the original one. This movie is brilliant as well and did a phenomenal job in depicting life of Ritwik Ghatak and Sashwata Chatterjee probably did his career's best acting in this film.
P.S. Not all Bengalis have jee in their surname like myself. But if there's a 'jee' in their surname then he probably is a Bengali Brahmin. 😊😊😊
👍👍👍👍👍👍
one like was not enough
Specifically Rarhi Brahmins...not all Branhmins also🤤🤤
Watch the original version. Ritwik Ghatak is a contemporary of Ray and equally great, but never got the international recognition which Ray got.
You have seen Two films of the same name-the older one made by the original director named - Rittwik Ghatak. Later, in 2013, the movie came with his life. So, it is a movie about the director of another famous movie. Both films were excellent. On many occasions, the director Rittwik Ghatak put into the same class as Satyajit Ray by many Bengalis as well as by critics. However, Satyajit Ray’s artform expanded in multiple arenas. You should watch both the movies - if you get the subtitle. I’m sure you’ll love it.
♥️♥️♥️
Please watch the movie.
Also please watch the below movies of the director Ritwik Ghatak that Shaswata is playing :
1. Jukti , Takko ar Gappo
2. Ajantrik

2. Arannye Din Raatri
3. Jana Aranye
4. Nayak
5. Abhijaan
6. Gupi Gyne Bagha Byne
7. Sonar Kella & Joy baba Felunath
Movies by Rituparno Ghosh:
1. Chitrangada
2. Raincoat
3. Dosar
From recent times:
1. Belasheshe - Shiboprasad n Nandita
2. Gaynar Baksho - Aparna Sen
3. Mr n Mrs Iyer - Aparna Sen
What I appreciate that, your reaction has become very serious. His films make us serious. Ritwik Ghatak was such a ignited mind, many intellectual persons would dare to confront him. He never thought of making money through entertainment, rather he wanted to give electrocution to the audience with people's pain, suffering, torture of the administration - all came at the time of Partition of Bengal. A director like him comes to the earth only once. Even Satyajit Ray admired him so much.
I also really praise your interest in Bengali movies. Please watch films of some famous Bengali directors - Ritwik Ghatak, Satyajit Ray, Tapan Sinha and Mrinal Sen.
You should react on Protidandi..one of most popular Bengali movie directed by Oscar winner director Satyajit Ray

Praktan and bela sheshe were directed by shiboprosad-nandita. This movie was directed by kamaleshwar Mukherjee..
This is a great movie. It is about the person that he was....Ritwik Ghatak. However the original Meghe Dhaka Tara was a 1960 movie directed by the man Ritwik Ghata himself. I also recommend like other have that you guys watch the original first and then come to the 2013 one, You will appreciate the guy better.
Please react on FISH ROCK on Kappa TV by Thaikkudam Bridge. You are definitely going to love that.

This movie is perfectly suited for your liking. I'm sure you'll thoroughly like the movie and be moved by the life and struggles of the genius Ritwik Ghatak. This film is based on the life of the legendary filmmaker and it is named after his most famous film of the same name. This is a great film. DO NOT MISS. Please
Hi Rick, Hi Korbin,
I wrote you earlier, now let me take this opportunity Mr. Rittik Ghatak was a class apart...his mannerism, his sounds, his dialogues are by any standard class apart. World and even modern India cinema simply don't know the treasure inside Bengal in terms of world class movies. Literature music ....we have unparalleled treasures ...you guys are doing awesome work. A very big thanks.
I have to thank you guys... cuz as a cosmo city dweller.. u guys have introduced me to more fantastic regional cinema than me and my stupid friends... being this side of Stupid is good.
Thank you thank you thank you!!! You guys are the Besssttttt😚😚😚😚😚
Wooooww u guyz got to this??!!!! Niiiiiiceee....i wish u could watch the older 'meghe dhaka taara' which is actually made by Ritwik Ghatak the legend....
Btw, welcome to the world of legendary bengali films....❣️🤗
Holllllyyy... that looked awesome.. incredible..
I can't believe you reacted to this. I love this film and wanted you two to see this almost a year ago. Please watch this but first watch the older one with the same name.
You are right.. He is Saswat Chatterjee, who played Bob in Kahani. Here he plays the legendary bengali film director Ritwik Ghatak , who made a iconic film Meghe Dhaka Tara
This is a Great Movie. A must watch.
If you read and understand the struggles that Ghatak went through to make movies (great movies) other directors will not stand a chance to match his creations. Given the amout of money Ray got for making movies if Ghatak would have received the same amout of money he would have won multiple Oscars.
As per as this movie is concern it is a movie about Ghatak's life when he was struggling alcoholism and was admitted to a mental asylum for treatment.
Please see the movie its worth the time and knowing a legend who could never become a ledgend, for his love for doing the right things over cheap popularity stunts.
It's freaking glorious. Watch the original one too, your definitely gonna love it
I am a bengali born and brought up in Kolkata ... And I am loving Rick .. he is exactly what bengali film industry needs ... And yes this is great
There was a very renowned dialogue made in the original one....dada ami bachte chai(Brother i want to live)
The three musketeers.... Satyajit Ritwik Mrinal...... legendary bengali directors
Watch this movie as soon as possible. I am not a Bengali, but this is movie every movie lover must watch.
Ritwik Ghatak is brilliant in every sense. His cinema, so ahead of its time, is always going to be relevant. This homage is definitely a great watch.
Korbin's observation about Indian viewers' obsession about box office performance of a movie is spot on. It's one of the worst things about viewership here, treating movies solely like commodities.
As a Bengali myself, i loved watching Rick’s excitement! ❤️
This is not remake of film 'meghe dhaka tara'(timeless classic) directed by Ritwik Ghatak... that story was totally different.. This is kind of Biopic of Ritwik Ghatak.. They just gave it same title to justify his struggle coz he was actually a cloud clapped star. You should watch both to undestand his pain and his ways of depicting pains.
💓💓💓from Bengal
I understand and can speak little bit of Bengali. The trailer is intriguing. From the comments here I came to know about the filmmaker's tragic life. It's heartbreaking to know. I will try to watch it soon. Recently, I watched Pather Panchali.

Thank you bro
The 1960 one is outstanding.I am a bengali and I know how brilliant the movie is.
Why only 12000 views? Why non-Bengali Indians don't want to watch Bengali stuff? Why they hate Indian Bengalis so much?! It just blows my mind!
I work in Mumbai, and I met a great colleague there, who is from Delhi... He has done his research on this very legend of Bengal. This very legend--Ritwik Ghatak. So he is one of the things which not every new gen Bengali people know about, but if you two can bring some light over these real heros of Bengali film industry, new Bengalis and other people will come to know about something great... Thanks for your wonderful venture! 🧡❤❤
This is a must watch movie. I think you guys should immediately watch this movie somehow. Not only because its a great movie but also because after watching this one you will surely be wanting to know more about this man and his work. And you will be amazed by those.
PLEASE DONT THINK JUST WATCH IT....
Ritwik ghatak kind of underrated director in india...Satyajit Ray name almost forgotten and noone hardly knows about padmasree ritwik ghatak and his contribution
Wow!!!!So happy seeing you people react to something related to Ritwik Ghatak....Please watch his original 1960 movie "Meghe Dhaka Tara" before watching it.
Love from India🇮🇳
It's a great movie , it's about the maker and making of the 1960 movie.
Not only Mukherjee, Banerjee, chatterjee s are bengali but 90% people in the comment box is Bengali. Bengalis have an unique and wide range of surnames in all over the India.
Many american and British music journalist and poet sat in the sun with Mr. Ritwik ghatak to collect charity for the refugees in Park street area.

This noir bengali films are popularly called Art Films... They are gem.... As Rick said, artistry level is spot on.... But we also have commercial movies in bengali.... Basically they are also copying Max stories from South Indian movies...
And this movie is awesome... You have seen Saswata(Bob) and Abir(Arnab Bagchi vidya's husband) in kahaani
Please Watch 'Nayak' by Satyajit Ray , starring Uttam Kumar , a bengali movie made in the 60's is far more sophisticated than much of current movies.

This is not a remake of any film. Rittik Ghatak was a legendary film director of India. This is based on his life. You should watch films that Rittik Ghatak directed.
Finally finally finally you touched on Ritwik Ghatak... Now You know Satyajit, Ritwik--- two among three pillars of Bengali films. I will not tell the name of the other remaining one. You have to explore and find out!! I freaking loved hearing so lovely words about Bengali films!!! Lots of love from #frenchwithbasu

Some Indians like to generalise India as this Feudal exotic country of Ancient culture ... But Bengal embraced universalism and modernism ... That legacy is sadly obliterated today !
You should react to the 'Dhaka Attack' trailer. A wonderful movie of bangladesh. Love from bangladesh. ❤️❤️❤️
Ritwik Ghatak is another Bengali Legend .
I thought this was the original film
Thank you for this reaction... watch the movie...
Saswata Chatterjee is the Actor ...He is one of the finest Bengali actor (he is Bob from kahani) ... I tell you he is one of the finest actor in the country. He is the same level with Nawajuddin siddiki ..
If you can just watch Durgeshgorer Gutodhon. Treasure of Durgeshgor. It is just amazing. My favourite movie.
Thank You!
Please Review Ritwik Ghatak's Films.
Thanks for reacting to this. Please react to one of the songs by proud of Bengal, Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore. He was noble recipient in literature in 1913. His songs, written and composed by him, are known as "Rabindra Sangeet" ("Sangeet" means music). You will definitely love the melody
Rabindranath Tagore was a great personality. He is the only known person to create the national anthems for two different countries; "Jana Gana Mana", the national anthem for India, and "Amar Sonar Bangla", the national anthem for Bangladesh.
The original movie by the same name is brilliant. Watch that. Do. And this also
Bollywood is just like Hollywood (great for mainstream commercial films) and Bengali film industry is just like European film industries (best known for art films).
