thanks Cliff! …still a nice hike👍🏾
What a shame after all that you couldn't find it. Maybe try again in winter when everything is down. Camping sounds like fun. Be safe.❤❤❤❤
I like the enthusiasm. Maybe this should wait until winter.
What tough going on that 'trail' (deer trail). You are certainly dedicated! I was rooting for you to find the lock and am sorry you didn't after putting in such effort.
It seems the higher the number lock, the tougher the slog through the dense thickets in the upper reaches of the Union Canal! Thanks for taking us along!
Well, grabbing stinging nettles doesn't feel good, but it is actually good for you. The sting is supposed to ease arthritis. The plant has so many medicinal uses that just that one plant can pretty much keep you alive, including being edible and very nutritious. The fact that it was there probably tells you there was a house nearby, as settlers planted it. Looking at google map, there seems to be a rectangular feature right where those bird houses were when you first came in. It looks like a rectangle covered in trees. It is right where you didn't want to bust through the wall of brush.
I know where that lock is. You were close. I was just there last year. I grew up near there. There is something special there that you don't see at the other locks. A man made limestone food supply cave built into the bank. Half of that has caved in over time.
Cliff,
I honor your persistence,
what's that saying ?. ."sometimes your the windshield ,sometimes
your the bug"
All in all it's been a great adventure.
Thank You,
Rik Spector
I enjoy these.
hey Cliff, are we there yet ?
You are nothing if not tenacious Cliff.
Maybe this is better explored in winter when the heavy foliage is down. Too bad you went through all that brush and nettles and found nothing.
Cliff, please be on the lookout for a package from Amazon from Liz and Jay Martin that should be delivered to you on Saturday, June 15th.... Hint..... for your next fossil expedition!
Got it!
After all you went thru I think you are entitled to sit back and say you didn’t see it. As you say probs filled in. Hope those nettle stings arnt bad. Thanks for taking me along. Please take care
😮👍
Sorry for all the trouble for nothing.
I suspect it is long gone
I never heard of stinging nettles
Common nettle is another name for stinging nettle. The so-called "dead nettle" is the one that doesn't sting.
I grew up near Lancaster. I think we called that stuff "burn hazel"
