1974 beetle vw running - loud knocking noise

Fresh air heater hoses weren't present before the oil change. They are afterwards. Not sure if it makes a difference in the sound coming from the engine.

Old motor was definitely tired. Looking and sounding great now!

Sounds like rods and valves were probably loose?

ever get that issue solved have a 67 with same issue. im leaning to bearing as all else looks good .

Worn connecting rod bearing on some cylinder, possibly.

You have a good point but I have a 1300 with a similar noise that goes away when the car warms up 🤷‍♂️

it was my wild guess; those engine noises can play us some trick.
