Without knowing what speakers they are behind the initial question, hard to judge, other than what Matt says here, try them both and decide wich you prefare. I have a pair of active AVI speakers (ADM9RS) which have built in Pre amp and DAC. They take two spdif optical inputs to do the encoding via the inbuilt Wolfson DAC, as well as a pair of RCA inputs which i connect my Turntable/Phono Amp to. I have never felt the need to add another DAC in the chain and bypas the speakers DAC by using the RCA inputs. To me, these speakers sound amazing as they are whether i am using a CD Transport, or Ripped CD files from my MAC Mini. For reference, I also use a Chord Mojo, Arcam rhead headphone amp and Sennheiser HD650 as my Headphone system. I could try using the mojo in me speaker setup, but just dont feel the need. My main speaker system sounds better as it is than my headphone system, eleminating the need for me to worry about spending £XXXX on another DAC 🙂
If the speaker accepts digital input, then the signal is almost certainly processed digitally (crossover, equalization, delay, etc) before being converted back to analog which is then amplified and sent to the speaker drivers. Normally, the speaker's DAC cannot be bypassed. Connecting an analog source to the speaker: analog -> ADC -> DSP -> DAC -> amp -> speaker drivers Connecting a digital source to the speaker: digital -> DSP -> DAC -> amp -> speaker drivers
Hi Mat , just found your channel your channel it’s great I love you content , I am from the uk and I live in France now, I am a collector of cds my music taste is Rock , grunge , post grunge , massive Pink Floyd fan, Pearl Jam, Bruce Springsteen,Neil young ,counting crows, Black Sabbath and also Americana music and folk, i am currently building a hi fi …again lol…😅, so I find your content on that very helpful, and also love your cd finds to …I agree with you it’s the thrill of the hunt, can you also if you can I need a pre amp to connect my record player to my amp/receiver…do I just get something on Amazon, thanks so much again love your channel …all the best ,your fan from France Ian
I made an order on EDIFIER R1855DB 2.0 , i currently have headphones connected to my MotherBoard connectors on pc, and i plan on using the 3.5mm on the monitor to connect the speakers, will that make the sound quality worst, rather then connecting them to the motherboard ? Motherboard has Realtek® ALC4080 Codec 7.1-Channel High Performance Audio Supports S/PDIF output . And i want to have my headphones and speakers ready to use at the same time. But i only have 1 3.5mm connection on the mbo, and i would like to keep my headphones there.
I still don't get it. - My question is if a active speakers don't have a digital inputs - does that mean the speakers don't have a dac with inside the speaker/speakers.
Which speakers do you have? I’m using the Kanto YU and I’m wondering the same thing. They are powered speakers with only analog input. However I can stream music to the speaker which must mean they have a speaker?
That's certainly a common reason using them, but also it could just be what he happened to have, in which case finding out if there's ways to get the best sound out of them isn't a bad shout I think.
I was always told there's no such thing as a dumb question, well....... i don't know about that. Why would you ask somebody else what will sound better in your system 🤔 Nobody can tell you that, only YOU can know the answer by trying it yourself.
I think sometimes having an outside perspective on the underlying principles of a thing can be helpful. I would imagine this is where the question is coming from. I agree though that trying both and seeing which one he prefers is ultimately the only thing that will tell him which direction to take.
it's a good question especially for people looking to buy hifi components, I am here because I am looking to buy active speakers and a DAC and I am wondering whether the external DAC is pointless.
@@crazyprayingmantis5596 I am just streaming using Sonos speakers but looking at a more hi fi set up which might mean separate DAC. just doing research before I buy anything.
Thanks for the advice and points - quite right question was around which should send better digital or analogue and what others may choose,

Sorry for the extremely newbie question, but can i plug pc on a fosi q4 by usb, and edifier 1080ts speakers to the fosi q4 with rca cables?

Powered speakers are about simplicity not adding more components.

I do like a silly question that's for sure, wondered what others may choose I guess for their set up
