I actually played it because I wanted to save Meryl and I was naive enough to think that using a Sniper rifle cheatcode while fighting Sniper Wolf would make the plot change lol. Of course it didn't work. I was upset, I kept playing. But then in the torture room I realized I could actually do something else but surrender... I was like - wait a second, it's weird. And I didnt understand spoken English back then well enough to be sure what it was all about. But I had a vague hope. So I remember playing that game all day straight to the end, excited and hoping. And that moment when Meryl turned out to be alive... You know, that was a child's dream coming true, like a miracle. I think I cried. And all that is just a game? No, MGS is way more than just a game ^^

I was actually born in 1998 when this game came out, I never really knew about Metal Gear Solid until I was introduced to it with Metal Gear Rising, although I didn't really like it much. I then played Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker on the PsP, then I moved onto The Phantom Pain, but I only played for a little while as it was a bit frustrating and confusing for me. But then I played Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater and I enjoyed the story in that and in Peace Walker. But I really wished I had played Metal Gear Solid 1 and 2, but mostly Metal Gear Solid 1
