He looks like a very sociable person he seems very approachable. When he started talking about easy money I thought hold on Its not easy money its really hard money I think he wants to be around socialising with people because he is afraid of being alone the more places he frequents the more familiar he becomes with other patrons. This familiarity offers him a kind of protection & belonging but he stated later that more much should be done for the homeless & the housing shortage
Seems like this man quite enjoys the lifestyle and free money. In his mind, it seems the positives (money, not having to work for someone else) outweigh the negatives (uncertainty, sleeping rough).
His third wish was to break down the barriers for him and people like him to be able to work. He was the barriers removed so he can work and others like him .
If your earning £20 to £80 a day and living on the streets your not doing to bad but when the pandemic hit, his life must have be rough. As a employed rough sleeper in a small town, thankfully I've never needed to beg but can't imagine getting more than a couple of pound a day, at most.
I have a homeless man just £2 and he had a lovely friendly dog and he told me that he could go to a hostel for £10 and take the dog. So the dog had a safe place to sleep. It made me happy. This man in the video is a strong person.
You know you don't mean that about EVERYONE.... Now you KNOW some people don't deserve a home, or even a life, right? (Yes, I'm being sarcastic, for certain reasons.) Some people who have been convicted of certain crimes, whether they actually did those things or not, are treated differently, no matter if their debt to society has been paid in full. I know someone who was convicted of something he didn't do, simply because he was young, and signed a confession after over 9 hours of harassment by the LEOs questioning him. Now his life is completely ruined for the rest of his life, and he's been homeless for over 4 years, and because of the wonderful, God fearing hypocrites in the area where he lives, he'll most likely die homeless, especially after just being diagnosed with a progressive respiratory illness, and sleeping rough. So I have to believe that most of the time, most people mean (especially all those God fearing church going hypocrites) that only SOME people deserve a roof over their heads. And yes, I'm angry that certain people have to live in these situations, because things seem to work differently for them, for some reason. The person I'm referring to is actually my son, who I try to help as best I can, just to try to help him survive, because he's actually given up on himself, due to his situation, and is becoming severely depressed, and isn't even trying to take care of his medical condition now, because he said why should he care what happens to him now, he doesn't have a life anymore. For a Mom, it's the hardest thing to hear your child say, even if he's an adult. And, before you ask, I can't even allow him into my apartment, because it's a government run building, so he isn't even allowed in to visit me.
@@janicem9225 "God fearing?" If they put on a shirt that says "church" and it has a cross on it, then they help everyone but the homeless, they're not God fearing. Even the book of James talks about that. Chapter 1, if someone knocks on your door to ask for a coat, and you tell them "Go forth and be warm," and then you shut your door in their face, what good does that do? That chapter says. Give them your coat, then they will "be warm." These "church" people you're talking about need to hear that. But, just know that the people you're referring to aren't EVERYONE in the church. It's just THOSE church people. That's a bad group in the church. Also, the reason you're so angry about it all is because he's your son. You love your son. I'm sorry he was falsely convicted. But, most people should have a home. If you're going to say someone does not deserve a home, only say that about convicted murderers. Not about groups that you don't like. And, be just as angry at the government as you are at the **cough **cough "church." It's not fair for them to not allow you to have visitors, especially when he's your son. It's not like you're letting people move in who aren't on the lease. It's not like you're throwing lavish parties with whomever attending. Direct that anger equally to the government, for that, as you are the church, for not helping your son. It's a government run building, but it's also your home. You should be allowed to have visitors in your home. Especially family. Especially for Christmas or birthdays. That rule is not fair. Just because it's "government run," they think they can make whatever rules they want, no matter how unfair, and unfortunately, the only thing we can do about it is not live there if we don't like the rule.

People don’t realize how expensive it is to be homeless!! It is more expensive to be homeless than being housed for everyone. Without a home it costs about 100 a night for a hotel and 450 for a cheap apartment a month. It costs at least 1 for a coffee to keep the body warm and energized and 5 for a month in a home. You see it is very challenging to be homeless and tests many many ways in life. It is sad and very sad.

There is no reason for homelessness to exist anywhere in the world, if man can go to moon and back you can end homelessness. The question is who will be selfless and sacrifice to make it a reality. I pray this man has shelter every night ,that should be a basic human right
He can start by stop spending his free money in pubs and rather use it to pay for a place to sleep at night, his priorities are fucked up, he is in this situation because he wants to be in it, I have no sympathy for bums like him. Free money...hard earned money for others.

I receive £147 a month from the government, straight into my bank account. and that's to tax and insure my Mazda Bongo van to sleep in at night. But I'm left with no food or clothing, and hardly any means to be clean. I was in a long term realtionship for over 20 years, and when it ended I signed the house over to my Ex and Children, I cannot get help from anyone, I dread waking up every day as I fear no hope at the age of 43, I'd much rather going to prison if I'm honest but I'm being good so I'm always in my Children's lives...... I am glad you were able to get off the streets. I was lucky too. Not everyone has the access to support as we did. While I understand the thinking “if I can, anyone can” it’s not true. Not everyone is able to get the support they need, which is why we need to live on everyone until they can love themselves
@@InvisiblePeople Mark, To a degree you have to make your own luck! Just sitting there and wishing for said luck doesn't make it happen. You have to want it! Some will never want to change course. Don't beat your head against the wall. You can only do so much!
Don't understand why people seem to think homeless equals lazy. Free ride? Not everyone that is homeless begs for money. At least you admit you are ignorant.
i regularly give bits of change to homeless men (and most of them are men) in the UK. The main reasons are: 1) I have been homeless sleeping out of a car and have been evicted several times so I have been there; 2) You never know when your time will come and so I feel we must acknowledge others having ended up in such a disadvantaged position; and 3) Giving change helps a little, gives hope to such people and buys you blessings (remember that), plus it does not have to be much or all the time. I sometimes have to knock people back as you can be seen as a soft touch and I tell them honestly as well, so you have to have the strength and balance to go either way. I see people deliberately ignoring the situation all the time as if they are special and nothing can ever go wrong for them. That is a bad move as we are all connected some how, and fear is not an excuse. Giving a little is not going to break you and if it helps a little why not? What is sickening is that the establishment/government/state or whatever you want to call it has plenty of resources, through all the tax they steal from us (official or stealth tax ) and could easily help these people out. But they cannot be fucked just like in the USA with the street sweep scam that is going on. People should reject government and authority operatives as they are no use and not needed and never were in my view. I would have thought that was obvious by now particularly in the wake of the covid19 global fraud.
He also made a point too Mark. There are some folks who feel better to see others like invisible people come after them for some coffee change and not really doing anything to help them off the street
I am 20 years old currently and I have recently become homeless a little over a week ago now. Without a valid ID at the moment it is near impossible to get any help from my state. I have to depend and hope for a place in a shelter and even then it's never a guarantee. It is freezing in Vermont at the moment. And everyday I wake up horrified on where I'll go that night, and where I'll get the next meal in my stomach. I'm mentally drained already, and I feel weak. I feel like no one even remotely wants to help or cares about me. I feel stuck in a loop I don't know how to get out of. But you're videos bring me hope. Hope that some day I'll have my very own roof over my head, and plenty of food in my stomach as well as a stable job. I hope someday our path can meet. After all the world works in mysterious ways sometimes. Hope all is well. I'm hanging in there.
It's just as bad in the United States for homeless. Something I really didn't know, lack of sleep is the biggest problem. It tears a person up big time.
well said , sleep is when a body heals itself of the days aches and pains , getting woken up every few houes and tokd to move on is a health risk ,and your health can fall quickly if you aint warm dry well fed and rested
It's called "learned helplessness". Very quickly, people lose their ability to continue to fight and just content themselves with terrible conditions. It's especially common in people who had rough upbringings, due to neurotransmitter changes that situation causes.
This makes total sense. There is the sense that there is comfort in the familiar survival mechanism and it would be hard to potentially face even more hardship by risking that routine. Social capital is everything and this man, although at risk of hypothermia, has a tonne of social capital. How do we preserve the social capital while jointly preserving health and wellbeing in providing adequate stress free housing and work? Thanks for your work ♡
I appreciate Paul’s honesty. Many people abuse social services and donations because it’s given to them instead of earned. Where I disagree with him is that anyone would choose a handout over working for a living. I disagree. Choosing to live off others hard work is a moral failing. I don’t care if that upsets people. Those who can, should pull their own weight.

I saw this guy on the tube a long, long time ago, late at night leaving central London. I ran onto the carriage before the doors closed behind me & I can tell the guy I passed had been drinking (stank of booze). After the tube doors closed he started yelling out. I thought he was yelling at himself or everyone present - couldn’t work it out, which was uncomfortable as I was on my own, I decided next stop I’d change carriages.. but in the space of 2mins it turned out he had it in for another passenger. I looked around & there were two other people in the tube carriage, plus him. Not anywhere near him! They avoided looking at him, me too. Then just as the tube was about to stop at the station, he completely walked up, crossed the carriage & punches this man (a business man minding his own business) right up into his nose and breaks it. I heard the crack. The man was in total disbelief - a grown man writhing around in pain and crying his eyes out. Totally unexpected. Traumatised. This wise guy kept ranting about Londoners being better than what they think they are.. I managed to drag the man off the train carriage before the doors quickly shut again & steered him toward exit escalators. I ran up the escalators to get help. No guard. The victim was devastated and just wanted to go home. I called the police when we got to ground level but they took forever to respond. This guy got away. I swore I’d never forget his face and here he is. Drugs or being so sloshed you can’t think straight in my experience creates monsters. The actions these people do to themselves and others in this state is truly horrifying.
I saw Red76 on the tube once and he was crawling across the floor making dog noises. People were freaking out. I remember, he slowly crawled towards one paralyzed woman, just to lick her shoes. It was TERRIFYING. True story look it up
This guy is being honest, at least. I must admit, I am a bit annoyed at him. I am homeless myself, sleeping in a tent, not far from where I work. No easy money for me, I work for every penny I have, no hand outs from the public for me, I don’t ask for it nor do I want it. I used to help a young homeless guy with money, but stopped because he always had excuses as to why he could not get work. I don’t want anyone becoming dependent on me or anyone, better he stands on his own two feet. And if they don’t want to, then they don’t deserve it. I will help someone, but they have to put in some effort themselves or they will never be off the streets. A lot of the guys don’t want to be off the streets, they just want the hand outs and don’t want to get up and go to work on time, like the man in this video.
@@TimTatarsky I am in Bristol, been sleeping in in tent, going from one agency job to another since Dec 2017. Currently working for DPD, who I thank are a great employer. I could get a flat, somewhere, but just don't want the stress of paying endless bills and mounting debt, which is what drove me to homelessness in the first place. The last flat I rented had a damp problem, and I hated living there. I have found that asking family to use their address as a care of address, to gain employment is the best way to go while homeless. I was thinking about getting a camper van, but I am not happy with what I am seeing happening with green initiatives, petrol and diesel seem to be on their way out, and second hand vans are rocketing in price, along with parts, so am staying in a tent for now. I hide my tent in a rural area. I found a great spot, a tiny wood, next to a motorway with a river bank cutting off access to the back, where no one goes anywhere near.

Nice bloke good to see people like him
No matter what this people do or done no one should be on the streets
Spot on
You know you don't mean that about EVERYONE....
Now you KNOW some people don't deserve a home, or even a life, right?
(Yes, I'm being sarcastic, for certain reasons.)
Some people who have been convicted of certain crimes, whether they actually did those things or not, are treated differently, no matter if their debt to society has been paid in full.
@@janicem9225 who are we to judge them??

Having an apartment can be a lonley place for a single person people on the streets will know and even support oneanother

I am homeless living in Plymouth UK 🇬🇧 for 4 years now. I need a break. I don't drink I don't do drugs and I don't beg. Hope this guy has a great Xmas given the circumstances. I wish everyone the best of luck that's in the same situation as me.

Up until the end I was thinking he was just lazy and wanted a free ride with the society paying his way but then he said he'd be willing to work it changed my impression of him this is coming from someone that was homeless at one time in my life I pulled myself out and they can too as hard as it may be !!
God Bless. I feel so deeply for people’s struggles and I wish money wasn’t everything but it is..
May they be saved and protected amen
Interesting discussion. Paul is aware of his role and the game that is played. The game should change.
i regularly give bits of change to homeless men (and most of them are men) in the UK.
What a great guy to interview, very insightful
He also made a point too Mark. There are some folks who feel better to see others like invisible people come after them for some coffee change and not really doing anything to help them off the street
There’s some truth to that. People celebrate charity yet often won’t do a think to get people off the streets.
I hope he bounces back and get a better life for himself...UK Gov. should take care of its citizens first.
Have a safe 2022 Paul
It's just as bad in the United States for homeless. Something I really didn't know, lack of sleep is the biggest problem. It tears a person up big time.
well said , sleep is when a body heals itself of the days aches and pains , getting woken up every few houes and tokd to move on is a health risk ,and your health can fall quickly if you aint warm dry well fed and rested
amazing how a man made construct like money has one person sleeping on the streets and another living in luxury
His three wishes encapsulated those around him who are suffering. What great instincts.
It’s surprising how easily people become “accustomed” to dismal situations.
It's called "learned helplessness". Very quickly, people lose their ability to continue to fight and just content themselves with terrible conditions. It's especially common in people who had rough upbringings, due to neurotransmitter changes that situation causes.

It's not a crisis to everyone just because you think it is
This makes total sense.

I’m sceptical that lack of affordable housing is even the problem here. It would need to be free for some of these people and that comes with stipulations they don’t wish to comply with. I don’t think Generation Rent’s inability to buy is in any way linked to rough sleeping.

Cool story
Martyn I Appreciate your comment. Could you tell more about your situation?
