I like this video because it shows you don't need a bunch of special altissimo fingerings, and many notes can be played with overtones. Every note has many possible overtones and getting the right one and playing it in tune is done with skilled use of the embouchre.
@SirValorSax Mr Spencer my sax hero,
I appreciate your work to educate and inspire us.
I have composed for and worked with Ted Nash (J@LC), Scott Hamilton, Jerry Bergonzi, Ralph LaLama (Vanguard Jazz Orchestra), et al…. and in the classical arena, Harvey Pittel, Roger Greenberg, Todd Yukumoto, et al….
You, Mr Adriene Spencer, have a huge tone across the instrument (and altissimo) and excellent groove and wonderful lines.
I wish you health and joy.
hug 🫂 from my tour,
Dr D
p.s. I am learning sax in my semiretirement; I have acquired a Mark VI tenor, Vintage Florida Metal Otto Link, and Ishimori ligature (a la Chris Potter)… now I have to get to work !
“Piece of cake” ! 😉
I’ll be purchasing your books soon when I finish conducting orchestras on tour.
Wow, thanks a lot. It's easy for content creators to lose sight of how much we affect and influence others, so it's great to hear comments like these
My Tenor is in need of repair but, works smoothly on Alto. . .tx. . .U should cont.
Lenny Pickett doing this also: ua-cam.com/video/dGQYCGFkFi8/v-deo.htmlsi=tU8yWuJYPdDLKVLx&t=103
On my Keiwerth tenor and alto, I get B thru D# when overblowing the palm keys instead of Bb thru D. [different horns tune differently] On the next higher overtone I can get E thru G# above that I get G# thru C (double C). It keeps repeating higher also, but it's easier to play low Bb and slur up to to highest notes. (like Lenny Pickett in this video) ua-cam.com/video/dGQYCGFkFi8/v-deo.html
In my opinion, getting these higher notes is from having an embouchure that is too tight. This will limit the upper range of your altissimo register.
@@SirvalorsaxOn my horn/mouthpiece/reed setup, I don't need a tight embouchre to get B thru D# out of the palm keys. In fact the notes can be a little too sharp unless I relax a bit, so I practice altissimo with a tuner a lot. Here is a video of my altissimo range: ua-cam.com/video/UwgfUI9PMWg/v-deo.htmlsi=yfUHQgqzjHvMLZ1L
