- What a way to end a series!!! I LOVED this movie! Seeing President Coin's plot finally being revealed was so satisfying, as was Presidents Snow meeting his end at the hands of the people he suppressed for so many years.
And Peeta!! I did NOT think he would survive let alone make a strong recovery. And seeing him and Katniss finally together and raising a family was just too heartwarming.
I wish Katniss and Gale could have ended the story on better terms, but I understand Katniss's negative feelings as it was his plan/idea that ended up getting Prim killed.
Overall just an amazing series. I'm so happy to have shared it with you!
That letter from Plutarch was actually intended to be a scene between them. But Philip Seymour Hoffman died before the film was finished shooting. So they had to rewrite it as a letter that Haymitch read to her.
😢
Obviously death isn’t something you can just undo, but I really wish we had seen how Hoffman would’ve played that scene. Plutarch is one of my favorite fictional characters period and Hoffman made the role even more nuanced. Seeing his face during the last third would’ve been fantastic.
Rip man.
Also, the kids at the end are Jennifer Lawrence's nephews. And the oldest, Bear, fell in love with Josh during the Catching Fire filming when he would come and visit his aunt on the set. So what we see is not a child actor play-pretend with an adult actor. It's a child, playing in a field, with one of his favorite person on earth.
Dawwwwww
So freaking cuteee! I hope they still keep in touch
@@rachelrosenstein9975 I know Josh was there at her wedding
At the start of the story, the only thing Katniss wanted was to save her sister. The only thing Peeta wanted was to not be changed.
At the end of the story, they both lost everything. But they managed to survive, together. I like that it doesn't end with the typical happyly ever after. There's no true winners in war. Everyone ends up damaged and it takes true work to recover from it all.
Last paragraph of the book, before the epilogue :
“Peeta and I grow back together. There are still moments when he clutches the back of a chair and hangs on until the flashbacks are over. I wake screaming from nightmares of mutts and lost children. But his arms are there to comfort me. And eventually his lips. On the night I feel that thing again, the hunger that overtook me on the beach, I know this would have happened anyway. That what I need to survive is not Gale's fire, kindled with rage and hatred. I have plenty of fire myself. What I need is the dandelion in the spring. The bright yellow that means rebirth instead of destruction. The promise that life can go on, no matter how bad our losses. That it can be good again. And only Peeta can give me that. So after, when he whispers, "You love me. Real or not real?" I tell him, "Real.”
And end of the epilogue :
"My children, who don't know they play on a graveyard.
Peeta says it will be okay. We have each other. And the book. We can make them understand in a way that will make them braver. But one day I'll have to explain about my nightmares. Why they came. Why they won't ever really go away.
I'll tell them how I survive it. I'll tell them that on bad mornings, it feels impossible to take pleasure in anything because I'm afraid it could be taken away. That's when I make a list in my head of every act of goodness I've seen someone do. It's like a game. Repetitive. Even a little tedious after more than twenty years.
But there are much worse games to play."
Such beautiful paragraphs. I’m so glad Peeta and Katniss ended up together, they need each other in every way❤
You missed it, Katniss was reaching for her nightlock pill right after shooting Coin. She was going to kill herself. Peeta stopped her. That's why he looked at her with a look of betrayal.
That was the only selfish thing Peeta ever did and even that was about Katniss❤
@@rachelrosenstein9975 I don't know if it's selfish though. Peeta also wanted to die earlier in the book and Katniss wouldn't let him either. That's like she says "that's what you and I do. We keep each other alive".
@@ptitepeluche05 it was selfish in the sense that he was thinking of himself when he stopped her, in the book she told him to let her go and he said he couldn’t. I do agree it was also an act of “we protect each other”.
Mutts are short for muttations. Anything that was created or genetically modified by the capitol. Like the dogs, the jabberjays, the baboons, and the creatures in this one.
52:04 at some point you can see Coin's emblem on the aircraft that flies over delivering the bomb things. That's probably another reason why gale wanted katniss' to kill him when the Peace keepers were getting him in the truck so he could get out of his guilt and escape any potential torture etc. Also the kiddos at the end are I believe katniss' or peetas actual relatives lol they were such an adorable family together at the end
Remember Tigris. It becomes important in the next movie
In the book, it makes more sense that Katniss believes Snow and not just the "We agreed never to lie to each other". Snow tells her that if he had had a hovercraft that still worked, he would've left the capital. And he reminds Katniss, in a roundabout way, that Prim should've been too young to be in the field. Because to be in the field, either a parent would've had to sign (and Prim's mom never would have), or a higher power. And that's basically when Katniss realizes that the only person who could've signed up for Prim to be in the field was Coin herself. And that's when she realizes that Coin killed Prim.
In the books, Buttercup (the cat) did hate Katniss. According to Katniss, the closest they ever got to "love" would be where Katniss feeds him in exchange for not being hissed at. But Buttercup LOVED Prim. In the Book, after Prim died, when Katniss found Buttercup, Buttercup was hissing at her until Katniss mentioned Prim's name, where he then started "wailing" alongside Katniss upon realizing she wasn't coming back. The next day, Katniss woke up to Buttercup standing by her bed, as if to "protect" her
It's a long shot, it's suicide maybe, but I do the only thing I can think of. I lean in and kiss Peeta full on the mouth. His whole body starts shuddering, but I keep my lips pressed to his until I have to come up for air. My hands slide up his wrists to clasp his. “Don't let him take you from me.” Peeta's panting hard as he fights the nightmares raging in his head. “No. I don't want to…” I clench his hands to the point of pain. “Stay with me.”
His pupils contract to pinpoints, dilate again rapidly, and then return to something resembling normalcy. “Always,” he murmurs.
God I love them so much❤❤
Suzanne Collins is releasing a new hunger games book next year about the 2nd quarter quell (Haymitch’s game) and I’m more excited for it then I was for snow’s origin story.
President Snow is one of the most well-written villains, both in text and on screen. Donald Sutherland plays him impeccably.
I loved his portrayal! Really had my blood boiling lol
RIP Donald Sutherland
They literally just announced another prequel book and movie. So definitely get to A Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, and then you'll have to wait for the next one like the rest of the fanbase! 😂
In the book Plutarch Heavensbee told Katnis what Haymich read in the letter. They planned to have him do it in the movie as well but Phillip Seymour Hoffman died unexpectedly before the scene was filmed. So they changed the script to have Haymich read the letter instead.
This franchise was amazing to grow up with! It felt so different from the other "teen" movies. It was set in a dystopian world but comes very close to the real world when you think about it. It is also not afraid to show that in war, no one is safe. Amazing reaction! :)
I have no clue why I didn’t get into this when I was younger I loved it! Everything felt so real like “yeah I can picture this happening”. Even the creatures felt grounded and realistic
@@JustAGuyReactsTigress is Snow's cousin
it’s funny that you said that Johanna looked like the zombies from I Am Legend because this movie is from the same director!
lol in the back of my head I was thinking “there’s no way this is coincidence”
yeah you got to watch the ballad of songbirds & snakes! so good!
at the very beginning Katniss said she was never gonna have kids. But it's because of the fact that she wouldn't want her children to have to live in this world of the games and potentially lose them when they come of age. But now that the games have finished and her and Peeta were able to find some peace through it all they feel safe enough to have a family. Pretty sure the books state its like 15 years later before having children.
i love that she made it so that they didnt just "get better" and go on to have kids immediately and live happily ever after, its so much more real to admit she struggled with the idea and still has moments of trauma and pain that make it hard for her to function because after all shes been through theres no way you can just find a way to feel great all the time after that and how that affects her ability to parent
Yeah you’re right❤
oh wow!! exciting!! i'd been waiting for this!
Haha it’s actually crazy to hear someone was waiting for my video! Thank you!
@@JustAGuyReactsPeeta and Katniss seeing each other did help Peeta. Him, remembering giving Katniss the bread was a major break through.
@@smdownh9true
So what you said about Plutarch at the end it's probably him coming in to talk to katniss well good guess because it would have been if the actor didn't die before filming that scene because it was him in the books so in order to get that moment his last message to katniss to her they had to have Hamitch come in with the letter
Ah man that's tough I would have loved to see the face to face. May he rest in peace. He did an amazing job
@@JustAGuyReacts a battle of songbirds and snakes is the prequel it's set during the 10th annual hunger games when snow is a child and I'll tell you one thing he was not always the monster he became he wasn't exactly a good person but he was well-intentioned and you could see where he was coming from the games were much much different he came up with a lot of the things that made them a bit more humane not that that was really the reasoning and Tigris that woman who had all the body modifications in the capital who was part of the resistance and gave that smirk when she was told that their goal was to kill him yeah she's his older cousin and they were best friends as teenagers I'll tell you once you watch the movie The Big theory on why she now hates him I will tell you it's something to do with finnick
Youre so quick to pick up on small details its so good!!
Love your attention to detail! Loved watching your series. Can’t wait for Mazerunner. In the books, it takes her years to agree to kids with Peeta
It’s incredible she finally felt safe enough to bring children into the world❤
You have to watch the next one about how snow became snow, and also, there’s another one coming out that has to do with Haymitch hunger games
I don't think I can fully express the degree of self control that is required every single time no introduce someone to these films.....to not scream "Fuck.off Gale!", every single time Liam Hemsworth come on screen. That said, have fun with " The Maze Runner " series, it is a master class in. Convoluted plot holes on top of literal CRIMSON herrings and McGuffin Burgers of biblical proprtions, there's no other way to describe it...entertaining though, definitely doesn't live up to its predecessor in dystopian ya fiction, aka "The Hunger Games" and even more so "Battle Royale".
Katniss has never been in love with Gale, but she does have love and care for him as a dear friend. He is in love with her. I like that you call him out for the times he makes it all about him. What you see when she kisses him is Katniss mistaking feelings of care for romantic interest.
Katniss doesn't know how she feels. Beyond being 16 years old, she's not connected to her feelings, which is very common for trauma survivors. Katniss says herself when Gale asks if she loves him that she can't think of anyone that way now because she's thinking of survival.
Mutts is short for muttations basically anything created or genetically altered by the capitol. Trackerjackers, jabberjays, the dogs in the 1st movie, And the human like lizard creatures in the sewer. Also what I found really interesting was the pods/traps in the books. They were definitely more brutal in the books, I remember for example when katniss and gale are approaching president snow's mansion there was this pod that projected purple lights onto the streets and anyone that stepped into them began screaming while blood spilled from their mouth, nose and ears. Also there was another pod moments later where the street opened up and people fell into I think two wheels grinding against each other. Definitely very disturbing.
Yay, great idea about comparing the books and movies! And thanks for these reactions so far, I really enjoyed them! Peace!
I am looking forward to seeing your reaction to The Maze Runner series and your book review!😁👍
I love the hunger games series you have. I definitely recommend doing a reaction video for hunger games balled of songbirds and snakes!
Also weird stupid fact. Coins name is actually word play. Because President Coin and President Snow are just two different sides of the same *coin*!
I never knew that!! Thanks for sharing
President coin is actually old Lucy Gray based on fan theory. This explain why the are one coin with 2 face. @@DiemPham-ps7kn
the part where katniss starts yelling at prims cat that prim is gone near the end has made me cry every time I see it
Snow didn’t do that to Tigris. In the capital it was a popular trend to get surgical procedures to look like a feline.
37:25 watching this scene at 11 years old in theaters was…. An experience to say the least. I wasn’t necessarily terrified, my mom had allowed me to start watching this kind of stuff around 5yo. But it was definitely very scary and anxiety inducing. I’d never seen a creature like this before other than in Harry Potter. However, the apocalypse and zombie genre is now one of my top favorites for movies!
unfortunately my cat had died just 2 hours before we went to see this in theaters too, so my stress level was already high, so when this scene came and we lost Finnick… boy was I HURT. Still my 2nd fav HG movie tho😂❤️. I’ve loved your reactions to this series! Thank you for sharing with us!🫶🏻
in the post credits of the movie, they play an instrumental called “there are much worse games to play/Deep in the meadow” and they have Katniss sing the song. It’s a very very full circle moment. The first scene we ever see of Katniss in these movies is her singing this sing to Prim after a nightmare, then we see her sing it to Rue as she dies, and now her newborn baby! I love that they included it soooo much!🥹
I just found your channel a few days ago, I was going to say that I'd love to see your reaction to mystery movies like Gone girl or Knives out because you're very observant. Until the underground scene, then I changed my mind and would love to see you react to horror movies like Evil dead 2013 or the conjuring instead 🤣
Lol i will definitely keep all these suggestions in mind!
I have to say Harry Potter series is one of my favorite movies and books serial too, I literally grew up with Harry (I was 11 years when my father gave me the first book and when the first movie came out) and it will always have a special place in my heart. LOTR series too.
With Hunger Games was love at first sight and at first I didn't know it was based on the book series. Now days it is my favorite and it ground's me in this changing times, and I tend to reread it at least once a year (original first three books).
To say at the end I really enjoyed watching your reactions and hope you will enjoy books too.
Can’t wait until you read the books. The movie are great but the books are phenomenal!
If you're interested in another beautifully moving film about social injustice and people rising up against an oppressive government (the uprising in question was a real one that the author of the book was a first hand witness to, even though the characters and story are fictional), and you also don't hate musicals, I cannot recommend Les Misérables (2012) enough!! At this point I've recommended it to so many reactions channels but that's just how much I love it!! And there's a reason the original 1862 novel has received so many adaptations in so many different forms and is known as one of the greatest stories ever told.
If you watch TBOSAS, you will learn who would make these mutts. (It's a malapropism. "Mutation" which is pronounced "mutt-ation" in this world, for some reason. It's anything made in the lab, so yes the dogs but also these weird things.)
Yes I'm going to watch it! Can't wait to see how they're made tbh lol
My fave movie series without a doubt and I have watched it many many times... I actually was having a break from it lol.. great reaction and yes the fact it does have a reality to it and its understandable why people where likening the last met gala to hunger games .. is a little scary same as the tv series handmaids tale .. that has a reality to it also. Gwyndolyn Christie ( Ser Brienne) is also in Wednesday. If you like zombie type movies I recommend World War Z & 28 Days Later .. I feel like WWZ copied their zombies from 28 Days and 28 days reminds me a little of a book called The Day of the Triffids
You shouldn't have talked so much when they were sharing the bed. The words said are important.
I agree
I hope you do ballad of songbirds and snakes soon! I love that movie a lot
This is the second reactor I’ve seen that assumed Snow made Tigress how she is. Weird.
I could have sworn someone ( I think Haymitch) said that when trying to convince her to hide them! lol I may have misunderstood
Lol with that reaction. Ppl are gonna wanna see you react to scary movies now 😆😆🤣
LOL I have thought about this but i really don't think I could handle scary movies! Signs is my scary limit lol
Will you be watching The Hunger Games: The ballad of songbirds and snakes ?
Yes! This Friday I'll be switching it up and watching something different but the next week I'll be watching it!
I have to say that the movie Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes isn't as good as any of these movies. This is a shame really because the book is excellent. I personally think that the reason that the movie isn't very good, at least in part is because Rachel Zegler isn't a good enough actor to pull off the role she was hired to do. The female lead in a movie in The Hunger Games franchise has to be on a talent level similar to that of Jennifer Lawrence and unfortunately Rachel Zegler isn't anywhere near that level.
