Love this because it gives me a better idea of what to expect. I have a few questions if you don’t …Is this something one can do solo? On average how much cash does one need to have? Also for the border crossing is there anything in particular immigration required?
Hi Joy! Yes you could certainly do this solo (we met a couple of people who were doing it that way) - you could either book a whole sleeper compartment to yourself, or share a compartment with other people (they're divided by gender). Once you've paid for your ticket, I'd say take at least 4,000 kwacha - and once the train crosses the Tanzanian border you can only pay for things in Tzn shilling, so you'll need to change your money with the money changer guys who hover at the border (negotiate hard, as they'll try and charge you an exorbitant rate at first). For the actually immigration crossing, a visa cost us 50 US dollars, and you'll need to have that in cash as they don't accept any other form of payment. Hope that helps, and glad you liked the vid!
@@Ken_foster99 Hi Ken, you need to contact the Tazara booking agent by WhatsApp - we used the number +260 97 8721782 but that may have changed (there’s a few different ones listed online). Be sure to try and get in contact at least a couple of weeks before you want to travel though, as seats get booked up quickly.
That's quite adventure.
