Anyone else notice the grinder wheel installed upside down? Or is it just me? if it was, just be careful SRF'er....not trying to be safety sally here, just makin sure it wont/doesnt let go on ya
Cut off not grinder
I always love to see farmers Weld things they get in a hurry just to fix things don’t think about later on they have to fix it again and again 😂
Probably like my dewalt grinder, a cutting wheel won’t tighten down if you put it on correctly, it will only tighten down if you put it on upside down.
It will perform better than ever with the field upgrades. It's worth every $$ and hour of love.
@@accessiblenow nope, he used it as a cut off wheel, definitely a grinding disk though
I'm sure the girls appreciate you working hard to get it back up and rolling, in the winter that's pretty much the bread and butter of your operation. Nice work!
Hey Josh, I'm not a professional welder but some things I've learned working in a machine shop: Always try to brace yourself when you're welding. That can be on the piece you're working on or something else. Also, some of the sputter you have is because you have the end of the gun too far from the piece you're welding. Basically the wire is burning backward. This can also be fixed by adjusting your wire speed. The biggest thing is just practice and getting calm. once the rush you get when you pull the trigger wears off you'll be much better. Remember you want to watch the puddle and not the bright light. That can take some time to remember as well. It all takes time!
Small tip for anyone else looking to weld repair a crack. Drill out the crack just beyond the crack line itself (so you can see the crack just entering the hole), then weld it up. The hole relieves the stress and stops the crack expanding from the heat of grinding/welding. (or just re-weld the entire joint like Josh did here)
Brave of you to weld on camera, lol. That looked pretty good from where I'm sitting though 👍
Getting it done... Thanks for the show.... i made popcorn.
“A grinder and paint can make you the welder you ain’t!”
Like dad said that's what a grinder and paint are for . He was a great welder it really depends on the condition of the metal Great work Josh
I’ve been watching you for years thank you for showing us your farm!
I’ve done things like this, fixing things that farmers fixed and had to come back and fix it for them over and over again for 45 years 😂 They just fix it to get it going I don’t think but later it’s gonna break again and how much it cost and if they fix it right first time
thanks for the video on fixing the hay bale roller. have a great day
When it sounds like frying bacon you're welding good
Tip for next time when welding a repair like this, notch the weld joint out with a v to promote a better penetration and to remove any corrosion down in the crack.
Love the video's!!
Great welds. My wife is a surgical nurse and she couldn't do any better.
yep....sarcasm is great! lol
I always appreciate you showing us everything you do. Makes it easy to follow. Great job Josh.
Another good job done back to rolling out the bales of hay for your girls and boys out in the fields ❤
Always something breaking down. You know you're a farmer by all the equipment fixes you do.
You do very very very good 👍 👏 👌 😀
I'm considering one of these bale unrollers for our farm but one of the first things I will do is fab & weld a gusset on the side you repaired. Thanks for the real world video.
I don't think it's necessary.....just gotta pay attention and roll the bale all the way up v/s what I did..letting the bale hang from the strap..totally my fault
@@thepitpatrol Thanks for the input. I'll check them out before I buy.
Working at a Power Generation station..... most the welding is Stick ..... My Son has 9 welding certifications......I have spent more time with my hands on a grinding wheel than most truck drivers have on a steering wheel......
Welding on YT! That's brave. You knew how many "experts" would be yelling at you, and yet you did it. Good man!
Sometimes welding isn't about doing it perfectly but rather about getting it done. If you can do both it's of course even better.
Grinder and paint makes me the welder I ain't!
Oh I know it!! Comments are coming for sure!
Always room for improvements
Great welding job whoooooo
Josh when I was young and helping my dad on a laying hen farm we had things happen like that. Our neighbor across the road from us showed me how to repair the bent and broken part. We had to heat the bent part while it was in a vise. Then we used a pipe wrench to straighten it. Then we rewelded the piece back into place it was square tubing like yours. We then welded a three quarter inch bar across the length of it on top to strengthen it. It worked great after that. Just a suggestion.
Looks good to me ! Always something right.
Well just like you always say this is farming in real life, stuff is going to happen if you use a piece of equipment, on some of the other channels I watch they are working on different pieces of equipment because sometimes they just break, it is what it is, enjoyed the video.
Need to angle the welding wand and support the end with your other hand ! But I guess if your grinding the welds down it doesn’t matter😅
Nice video!
A grinder and paint make me the welder I ain't.
Surprised you didn't just drill and install a grease fitting in the old one and save all the welding. Thanks for the video.
10 mins one way...10 mins the other ...no biggie
Like I always say when picking up something hot, didn’t take long to look at that lol😂
Hi..... Josh nice to see you, thank you for showing your video homestead 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 👕🐔🐓🐣🐥🐕🐈🐄🐖🐝🐠🐟🎣 🌱🏡🎥👍👍👍
Next time you have to weld it consider leaving the weld instead of grinding it away. Will be a bit stronger. And ditto on the comment of trying to support or steady your self on those welds.
Make gussets on each side weld on strong.
Nice job buddy, if you can prop your hand somewhere somehow, it's gonna give much much more control while welding, keep up the good work!
Also, when you’re working outside in the elements need to turn up your argon more by 10% if it says 25 you turn it up to 35 at least because outside air is different from being inside where the wind doesn’t create different consequences
Always love seeing farmers, weld and cut things 😂
@@tracygsmith9172 that is an essential advice for sure, unless we can use stick or flux core wire
With as much use as a critical piece of equipment as the Hay Bail Unroller gets on the farm. the only wonder is why it didn't need maintenance before now. Your repairs... combined with proper use... should last a long time!
second comment bashing the Greg Judy bale unroller....my friend.....it's being used daily and it's just fine...look at my other comment...this machine is meant to be light and therefore it will need maintenance from time to time.....I literally beat the crap out of it every day in winter...it's sat outside for 3 years and looks/functions the same as day 1
Great job, Josh! Is there anything you can't fix?!
lol....marriage...TBD hopefully so!
Would you look at that 7.3 powerstroke sanctuary in the background
The regulated gage worked fine, but the supply pressure looked at zero! Did I miss something?
yep....I turned the gas on lol
Hey Josh, good fix. Did you see my email about leaves?
yeppers...it would be a huge waste of time for you to haul them here my friend....I appreciate the thought
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer Actually, I’d haul them on a trip to the Walmart nearby, so I wouldn’t be out that much time or $. I’ve been quoted (a highway robbery) to have them hauled. My alternative here is to crunch them through the mower and put them on our pine straw beds! Any solution seems a lot of work for probably 300-400 lbs of leaves.
Great video Josh Woooooo!
Main reason weld broke probably is all weld ground off. Looking good sell’s.
Grinder and paint, makes a welder what he ain’t
The tubing looked the same between the one that was cut off and the original except that he new one came with a zerk fitting. Wouldn't it have been easier just to drill a hole in the original one and tap it to add a zerk fitting than to grind the old one off and weld the new one on?
probably
Yes I noticed that and also noticed that you should have a gusset on back side of the one that is on the sg frame were you welded . If you did that it would never crack again.
Welding outside I would use flux core due to wind and buy 10lb roll those 1lb rolls don’t last no time
Yur welding outside with more air movement so it can also help to turn yur shielding gas little higher (30) is a good number and keep yur ground close to where yur welding cuz you can get arking in yur wheel bearings
A grease fitting for a spring? Don’t think I’ve ever heard of it.
You could cut of a piece of 1/2 rebar and weld the hell out of it! it's your farm!
If you have the opportunity to put something in the flat when welding, you should.
Leave the weld next time. It’s not a show piece😁
I remember my dad always breaking something every week when we farmed, we just had alot bigger equipment to fix but we had a winch truck with gin poles and a 10 ton winch. I'd have put a gusset on the winch side of that frame that would cover the cracked weld and on the outside of the tubing. Maybe overkill but it won't break again. My dad was not a good welder but we just had an old hand crank portable Lincoln welder on a trailer. It had a flathead continental gas engine on it. I could weld really good with it, stick weld, but dad was a gorilla welder, ugly but strong!
On a farm a strong weld is a good weld no matter how ugly...
like i always say grinder and paint make me the welder i aint !!!!!!
A grinder an paint makes the welder you ain’t 😅😂😂
Finally seen someone shake as much as I do when I'm welding. lolol we get it done at least.
WooooooooooHeeeeeeeeeHeeeeeeeeee!!!!Alright!!!🤗
You should have C25 or CO2 not Arogon. Agron is for stainless or aluminum.
Wasn’t worried about it falling but you should have been using a face shield when using the grinder. Your videos are great though Josh thank you for sharing. How did the roof look when done?
face shields are for wimps affraid of going blind from hot metal shavings.
I heard 🥓 sizzling! Nice repair. Was the zerk fitting upgrade due to rust causing to much friction damaging the springs? 🚜-Woooo!!
ya know...I'm not sure...to be honest I didn't put any grease on it
Hey Josh, be careful, that’s hot.
🙋🏼♂️ helps to rest wrist or elbow on work surface .free handed with black glasses 😎,guessing where you are is tough ❗️🏁
Hey Josh thank you for the video I enjoyed it and glad nothing happened to you why doing it either now I have a question for you is there been on roller made of aluminum or steel I never welded before but I have a lot of aluminum stuff that I need to weld eventually down the road and I think I have a TIG welder like yours can I use that for aluminum now yes I googled it and it says you can if you put it on low temperature but who knows for sure so do I need a whole another welder for that that is the question sorry for the long message woo
Was hear
Wooooo
Show us those OBS fords in the background
coming this weekend!!
what are those square body trucks in the driveway???? New "old" toys???
vid coming out this weekend on the trucks...we've shown them a couple times on the livestream channel @stoneyridgefarmerLivestream
Should have ground the crack out then weld it up ! And don’t bring the new weld off ! Bet it will break again ! If I was closer I would have helped you ! I’m in upstate NY
@@thepitpatrol no. not to bad here !
Why did you get 3 ford pickup that are in the background? They look good in the sun.
more to come on the trucks this weekend!
What were you doing wrong? What's the right way?
Nice repair. But I don't think you should have ground down your welds that much.
Gusset should have been out of box steel and not plate. Bob in Nevada
A grinder and paint, to make you the welder you aint.
Well I can’t say I am surprised. But you can fix it.
👍
dont force the cutting tool , it knows its way. if i was you , id get more grinding / flap disks ......lol . good vid
Ur welding little to fast and the welders don't do to good on a long cord but it takes practice keep up the good work josh
yep...practice practice practice for sure
Spray and pray
No such thing as an ugly weld, they just have character.
Your saw there looked to be 18v you can buy an adapter to convert to 20v dewalt
yep...I've got a video on it...but I like the old 18v batteries way way better...they last!
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer now the one i had for a jigsaw only lasted 15 minutes and then had to wait for recharging cause I only had one battery
A grinder and paint makes the welder I aint LOL
the only safety issue i have is that you were welding / cutting above / beside the pressurized tire ...
So what was wrong with that it ain't going to hurt any thing if he was using a torch than yes safety issure
I’ve seen booger welds hold better than a perfect looking weld next try and brace yourself better so your body don’t move around so much just your hand or forearm should be moving and a gusset on that side would strengthen that corner I’m not trying be critical just getting you comfortable I’ve been doing this for years just don’t get so comfortable that you fall asleep
👍👍👃
Want to meet you
Can I have that chance please 😃
Ugly is only a grinder buff away lol from looking good
Or as my pops said grinders make all welders look good
Try and drive slower with the weight? It's a big responsibility caring for those huge animals. 8F MN Plenty of food. Worms happy, but I've got one hen pecked white Delaware. shaking lifting leg. sucks. Why are hens so mean to each other?
If you have to grind your weld your a grinder not a welder!! 😜😜
lol yep
Nope no safety Sally's but boogers on you wk project tissue tp or paper towels plus you don't want to burn your nose on a weld too hot brother. How that for a dumb nosey comment? Some of these mst make you laugh I'll keep on trying. Take your Greg Judy Bailey with your best 4WD pickup truck and do the Baja 5000 test out your welds truck tires give it heck
Is this a quality issue with G Judy? Doesn't seem like you should have to do this so close to purchasing. Has he addressed the yet? He's a standup guy that can't be happy seeing this.
I totally told ya that it was my fault...not the fault of the machine because I didn't use it correctly when I first got it. Not a quality issue at all...farm equipment wears and breaks if you don't use it properly...if ya watch the vid you'll hear me talk about it my friend
that thing is poorly designed to carry the weight of a one ton bail. You will have to keep fixing it because those springs will keep failing.
3rd bash comment....it's a bale unroller meant to tread lightly on pastures.....driving your 7k lb tractor into the muddy pastures is simply poor land stewardship
not carrying 2000 lb bales my friend....one spring broke last year.....I beat the snot out of this thing and it's held up great....a couple quick repairs after 3 years of beating it and It's as good as new....simple, easy and tough solution to low impact hay unrolling
Josh you don't use it year round so it hasn't actually worked for 3yrs. So what makes you think you won't be replacing those springs again? So every other farmer that uses his tractor to unroll bales is ruining his field?
It’s ugly because you are going the wrong way!!!?
Sorry guess I was looking at it wrong. Sorry!! Good job!!
You can weld in either direction. One will get more penetration than the other. For this application, it's not structural so either will work.
