The stache falling off clearly signifies the turning point for this character, losing every shred of humanity and who he was prior to the loss of his brother. Truly masterful writing, Pizza Brothers is a literary masterpiece.
That part where his mustache falls off out of sheer sadness cut me like a knife.
Can we all just appreciate the fact that he’s actually wearing a wig and not just draping a towel over his head?
The loss of the mustache indicating the change in character growth, is what makes this anime top tier.
You know it’s a good anime when there’s a solid 2 minutes of plot and not recap before the OP actually starts.
Tokyo revengers for the most part then you have bleach with slight spoilers of the episode like it’s meant to tease you which is dumb.
Thomas Manga really threw us all for a loop with this character development. The anime's choice of having an upbeat intro but an emotional outro with "Pepperoni Pizza Pie~" shows the contrast of loving pizza and yet at the end of the day questioning the value of what it all means.
"A Slice of Life" really is in a class of its own. Such an original piece of content.
Thomas Manga used to draw some of the cheesiest doujins before this, I was very amazed that he could pull off such an emotional story!
That's the dub name, you uncultured scrub. It's called "Piza Kyoudai" in Japanese, which means pizza brothers. Get it right.

Headcanon: His brother gave him the hat on their opening day, when he made his first pizza for his friends just before closing time. He stood by his side the whole way, never stepping in directly, but giving him direct and indirect advice that later doubles as life advice.
Maybe it was talent, maybe it was beginner's luck, or maybe it was his brother's coaching and his own love of the craft, but there was something special about it. Every last one of them knew it the moment they tasted it, perhaps none moreso than his childhood friend, who stayed behind the longest to tell them she'd happily work with them when they started hiring. She loved him, of course, and his older brother knew it. He looked forward to seeing them work together, slowly nudging them in the right direction until they finally spit it out and got together.
But that could wait; for now, they headed up to the roof of their pizza parlor. It wasn't a remarkable view by any means, only reaching two stories at most, but at this exact time of day, when they sat on their chairs and looked out towards the bay, they could see the sun setting over the seaside shacks and summer homes, as flags danced in the wind all along the glistening waters. That day, as they sat and talked, he gave his little brother his old chef's hat, the same one he had worn when he used to cook for them when their parents were out of town. They didn't say much that evening, due to a mix of exhaustion from a hard day's work, and emotion at their dream finally coming true, but that simple gift said more than words ever could. He loved him, and he was proud of him, and he looked forward to watching him grow, both as a chef and as a person.
The accident was two weeks later.
The mustache falling off killed me way more than it should’ve.
lol i saw it falling but i didint recognize it was gone, my brain turned off for a sec
When the title translates to *‘Pizza Brothers’* this whole episode makes a lot more sense, of course the loss of a brother would affect the tone of the show.
As good as ProZD's comedic acting is, his dramatic acting is on a whole other level.

I was so invested in the drama of the scene that I almost jolted out of my seat when the OP started.
And his acting too!! Like, look at the way his hand was trembling as he took off his hat, I’m getting way too immersed in a story about pizza bros
The opening of The Promised Neverland always gets me. An orphanage of adorable children, raised like cattle so their brains can be subsumed by demons, and then in comes the "YEAH! YEAH! YEAH! YEAH!" pop beat.
They butchered that story so badly with the anime, it's a damn shame
The fact that he doesn't break character when the mustache falls off just kills it for me.🙂
It cuts literally half a second after it falls off, he did break character. It would have been funnier to hold the scene for another moment post moustache fall off, but he broke.
it falling off then immediately cutting to the other character was funny in itself, i was expecting it to be back on when it cut back to him but no it was just gone
His acting was so good, I was too engrossed in the conflict to laugh about the mustache falling off
Sure, the mustache falling off might seem like a comical gag at first, but looking at it from a more analytical angle makes it much more tragic. Perhaps the mustache falling off represents the emotional state of Pepperoni Pete at this point in the "Fallen Slice" arc. The more Pete let's the grief for his deceased brother consume him, the more he loses his old, pizza pie loving self. It's tragic and beautiful.
That's because that was not the pizza guy! It was young Archibald in desguise!!!!
0:32 I'm really enjoying the character growth and continuity of this anime. The lost mustache arc was a huge turning point, and I'm there for it 100%
Honestly that was what got me into the series, I was a little late to the party but I'm hooked now and I regret not watching sooner
The symbolism in this anime is really what gets me. The falling mustache which foreshadows his descent into darkness, and (spoilers from the manga) the later growth of the mustache during his redemption arc - plain artistic brilliance.
The silence at the end of the dialogue was just perfection, and even though you saw the goofy song coming it still just killed. ProZD's timing on things is just so good.
Granted he’s a professional actor, but I love that he puts so much effort into these dramatic scenes even though it’s just going to be subverted by a joke. It could be just good enough to make the joke work but he goes all in.
Heading the credits theme immediately after the ending to episode 11 of Delicious in Dungeon.
I can't believe Slice of Life went this hard in the third season, I was so worried the creators lost the original artistic direction when they abruptly changed the theme song in-between the second and third season, but if you think about it it's actually quite symbolic of the main character wanting to embrace the childish spirit his brother so brightly held, but he's too scared to be vulnerable again.
Oh man, Slice of Life? Jeez, the more I think about it the better the title is.
tho sungwon decided to make it "pizza brothers" apparently. the title screen says so. Honestly loving slice of life better
So my personal theory on why the main character's mustache falls off during this fight is because it's a fake mustache, it's something he uses to project a more mature appearance to everyone he meets, not just to get respect but to emulate his brother and his mature nature. It falling off his face is meant to symbolize the false persona he's built for himself starting to (or continuing depending on your perspective on the timeline) fail as the people around him begin to see through his act. That's why when he grows his own mustache in the final arc it symbolizes his growth as a person and becoming the kind of person his brother wanted him to be.
THERES A TIMELINE NOW??? (Yes Ik everything technically has a timeline but u know what I mean)
I agree with your take, but I believe Pizza Bro Jr realized his independence. He took the steps to be the person that he wanted to be, and, as a result, grew beyond the expectations he set on himself and his older brother's shadow.
Two brothers, young and bold
Lovers of pizza, forever told
Their bond is strong, their love is true
For pizza, they will always queue
From the streets of Tokyo
To the hills of Italy, oh oh oh
Their passion knows no bounds
For pizza, they will always be found
Through thick and thin, through good and bad
Their love for pizza, never to be had
Two brothers, united as one
In their love for pizza, the battle's won!
So come and join their quest
For the ultimate pizza, at its very best
Two brothers, a love so pure
For pizza, their adventure's just begun!
With all the likes this is getting. I must admit this was written by chat GPT.

Anime title: _Watashitachiha shakai ni sunde imasu_
Anime fans: *Wa-Su is such a great romantic comedy!*
The moustache, the only thing left of his brother after the oven accident, is a symbol of the protagonist's wish to keep his dead brothers' legacy alive. It falling, more importantly the protagonists inattention to it falling, demonstrates how anger and guilt have slowly taken the place of his love for his brother and how his self punishment is leading him to push all of the good things in his life away. Deep stuff.
Deep.. like Chicago pizza.
Stuff.. like the cheesy crust of my favorite frozen brands.

I like how he doesn’t put the mustache on after it falls off. Meaning it’s an intentional piece that signifies tension
It's a fake mustache that he wears to be more like his brother! Did you not read the manga?

An upbeat ending theme is usually a bad move, since you know there’s gonna be that one episode that makes people bawl and you can’t just have a sick guitar riff and peppy lyrics after that
Saddest episode? Has to be either Nina or Hughes. Considering you were in tears as the ending started my guess is on Hughes since it basically gut punches you right at the end of the episode.

I'm way more invested in the Pizza Bros Anime than I should be. The idea of two Brothers opening a pizzeria to fulfill their dreams only for one of them to die and leaving the other so distressed that he vows to never make pizza again is strangely compelling. Especially since I'm imagining that plot twist to come out of nowhere and completely taking us the audience by surprise just like it does the characters.
Also I unironically love how you kept acting despite the moustache falling off. Fantastic performance
Exactly! The antagonist is actually the 'dead' brother who faked his own death because he felt like he was not getting the respect he deserved and was living in the shadow of his brother. How else would you explain the antagonist knowing the weakness of each and every recipe his brother threw at him in the Cook-Off season 1 finale episode?

Diana will come back, she needs this job too..not for the money or the fame, but because she needs to prove to herself she can do this. We still don't know Diana 's backstory, but in the manga...oh boy.

Absolutely. And the 'you think you know' line shows a level of nuance to this type of scene that really elevates it. The combined scenes so far comprise the pizza Anime equivalent of Up's beginning sequence.
I much prefer the season 1 opening “Toketa Inochi no Kakera,” (roughly translated to “Slice of Melted Life”). It was completely original and a lot of time and care was put into it (not to mention the animation was stunning).
With that being said, I was really disappointed when they gave into the memes and used “Sore ga amōre,” as the opening and “Pizataimu” as the ending. It was at that point it became clear that the company only cared about the ratings and NOT John Manga’s original story.
Such an apt reply. Truly worthy of the artistry evident in every episode. The sub is so much richer than this dubbed cut though.
John Manga would be so disappointed at John Anime's butchering of his work
@@willowism I actually wouldn’t fully blame John Anime, though. He was just doing what the head of the corporation (John Corporate) told him to do.
If anything, I’d blame John Government for making laws that censored a lot of stuff in the anime that had parallels to real-world politics. They had to cut a lot of stuff from the manga just to air it on public tv.

Make crunchyroll bring back anime crimes division! I’d watch a third season even if it was the last
There's the full series Anime Crime Division on UA-cam already if I'm not wrong. Just look it up.
There's this anime from about 11 years ago I rewatch with randos on the yearly. It's about a young girl who joins the military since it's the only place that will still teach music. The world has long gone to shit with everyone fighting over the last resources left on the planet, but she's stationed next a wasteland so shenanigans ensue instead. It's usually pretty light hearted and the ending song reflects that by exploding into a song about friendship and love. Well some of the episodes end with a heavier tone like a dead grandma or crying orphans or a gun fight. And you can guess the mood whiplash that comes when the scene ends and the ending song comes on.
Always reminds me of Victory Gundam. Opening felt like the good guys are winning and overpowering the bad. Shouldn't have watched it. Same goes for Soldiers of Sorrow in the original. First heard in the ps2 game Federation Vs. Zeon. Always thought what a cool rock song. Welp reading the lyrics, wasn't sure why it was so hopeful.

@@sb15skg The other two got it. Looks like it's on Crunchyroll. The OVA is numbered 7.5 which is kind of an odd spot for it. Episode 7 was one of the heavier stories and so episode 8 already follows up with a slow episode about waiting around a phone. Though doubling up on the comfy isn't such a bad idea depending on how you feel about episode 7.
Fun fact: This is part of a trio of shows under "Anime no Chikara". TV Tokyo and Aniplex wanted to fund more anime original productions and so they partnered with A-1 who made this show, Senko Night Raid, and Occult Academy; the stories don't have anything to do with each other.
The only manga I ever read entirely from start to finish *(yay for stories that are self contained and end eventually)* was called Kitchen Princess, and it was about a little girl who was an amazing chef and her friendship with two brothers, one of whom died, so safe to say regardless of the underlying joke this video kind of gave me a little deja vu.
Gods, that was genius on so many levels. Hearing an anime-style version of That's Amore got me seriously psyched, it's something the world absolutely needs!
An anime would have absolutely changed the rhythm to triplets instead of the original syncopated rhythm for an end theme.

I was so genuinely captivated that I sincerely didn't notice the mustache falling off until the comments pointed it out. Bravo on that surprise gag, the expected gag, and the dramatic chops!
The mustache falling off is a beutiful metaphot of him "letting go" of the memory of his brother. The same mustache that he wore when he was alive, abandonig his face as he doubts of his brother's dreams. Truly, this is NOT just a show about pizza... it's about the people you share it with.
The mood whiplash moment where it went from a melodrama sequence into an upbeat metal cover of that's amore got me cracking up.
I love how the mustache falling off at the end signifies the loss of his true passions when he talks about losing his brother since he was his initial inspiration to keep going even when it was hard and he was heartbroken from his fiance running off with the Garbage boy. You can also tell that it's not an animation mistake because the mustache is still gone at the end of the scene. It even mirrors the fact that his father died after losing his own facial hair in the great Restaurant Wars where they shaved their captives symbolically before execution. I know a lot of people say it's a sloppy show, but they just don't see the little details showing how much the creators really understand and the unique way they express the themes of the show.

I love it especially when the first episode or so does actually match the tone of the theme song and then it gets darker real quick so that they are out of sync in tone.
This also reminds me of a game I played recently: Murder by Numbers. In one of the final chapters, there is a literal gun fight and the main characters are caught in the middle of it. You have to find a way out by doing a Picross puzzle and the freaking music is so upbeat and cheerful that it is super jarring when you get back to the intense drama of the story.
