I intentionally don’t watch the original versions or look for the mangas of any of these shows because I want to watch them free of any preconceptions (though it’s hard to avoid posts that refer to what was in the original). And taking the show as what it is without any other expectations or preconceptions, I thoroughly enjoyed it and didn’t have any problems with it at all. My own personal criteria is whether or not the show accomplishes what it is trying to do, and I felt as though this series successfully did what it was trying to do. It was a light comedy with plenty of heart, and as such, it felt like it succeeded totally to me. I might not rank it as the best of the best because those shows usually have more depth to them, but I don’t think it deserved the kind of harsh criticism it got from some people. (Not you, of course!)
