      In Kim's case, she's the one who said "nobody wants to work anymore, get off your ass and work" on international women's day, so yeah, I don't feel sad about making that little joke at her really, when her and her families companies exploit women constantly and try to get out of paying them at all

    Being 30 and I haven’t given my money to chain retailers in about 4 years! I repair and reuse all my wardrobe items. I have clothes&shoes that I’ve had 4-8 years that are in good shape bc I tend to take care of them bc I save/salvage/reprocess. If I do buy a clothing piece I buy second hand only. I made this decision mostly to maintain a minimalism lifestyle, but as of lately I have been diving into the effects fast fashion has on climate. Thank you for your information. Here is to hopes that more people will see the harsh reality fast fashion has and make a change

      That's amazing, good on you! I know it's not accessible to everyone but us all taking more care of the things we have and buying less helps hugely. I hope that the businesses do get held accountable for their atrocities against the garment workers and the environment, there's only so much we as consumers can do but taking the power from corporations by now allowing them to get away with this is a great place to focus

    My favorite item of clothing is this chambray overlay sundress that's super comfy, works for any occasion from lounging to a wedding, and I don't have to wear a bra with it... I've worn it multiple times a week every summer for the past 8 years and it's still kicking!

    My favorite item of clothing is a black sundress from free people. I’ve had it for the last 4 years and I wear so so often , not only in summer but in winter too with tights. It just fits perfectly and makes me look and feel great.
    Unfortunately the fabric free people used isn’t the best so it’s starting to fall apart a little and since I can’t find it anywhere second hand to replace it and free people doesn’t carry it anymore, I’m currently saving up money to have a seamstress make a replica.

    • @BryonyClaire
      @BryonyClaire  2 роки тому

      Sounds like you've got great use out of it though! I fully understand wanting to replicate it, you'll be able to use a fabric that works best for you too by going with a seamstress, I hope it turns out well!

    also, just 'giving things through donation' is not enough as most just end up throwing away. Just don't buy more and ask your cirlce first is they want something.

    I work for a local (to me in Maine!) privately owned (thank God) corporation called LL Bean. It's an outdoor goods retailer. They sell a combo of high end outdoor gear and higher end clothes. My favorite things I wear came from there. Have 3 cozy hoodies that I practically live in one the weather turns cold. And they're years old at this point.
    I'm a serial outfit repeater, and I wear my clothes, even the cheaper stuff until I can't anymore. I'm a seamstress by trade, so I routinely will fix things. I can also make clothes from scratch, so to speak, and tend to wear those out too.
    I do shop at Old Navy, mostly because I'm a chonk, and they have things that fit my fat butt and they don't charge a 'fat tax.' And like everything else I own, I wear them out beyond repair!
    I have a really hard time thrifting because I'm not only a chonky lady, but I'm flipping tall. Sadly, most of my local second hand shops only cater to the thin majority. (If you're bigger then a US 12, which I think is about a NZ 14, you're shit outta luck 😕) It sucks, because I like to try and keep my money in my community, but sometimes you just can't.

    • @BryonyClaire
      @BryonyClaire  2 роки тому +1

      Outfit repeating is the way forward! Honestly I sound like a goblin but since I wfh I wear the same loungewear for 5 days straight hahaha, I only change for these videos or when I have to leave my cave on occasion 😅
      Second hand shopping is hard with the lack of inclusivity of not only fast fashion but most fashion brands. In my other videos I've mentioned the issues of this and its why I don't like to shame people who have to buy new from places, main thing really is on reducing consumerism as you say. It's a great thing that you're a seamstress too, it's a skill more people should have!

      Oh I'm the same. I live in my comfy frumpy stuff at home. And I'll wear the same PJs for days. I live by myself, and the cat doesn't care what I look like as long as the food keeps coming!

    Very interesting video! I don't have one favourite piece of clothing either, but a few different ones. Unfortunately I've grown out of a few of them the last couple of years, many of which I've had for years. I generally don't buy clothes a lot, and I try to be concious of what I buy, but it's sometimes hard with a limited budget AND limited energy. It annoys me when people tell you just to buy less, and then you can buy more expensive clothing, cause I already buy little. And with all the greenwashing, how do you know that the more expensive clothes are better anyway? Second hand is good though, if it's available where you live. This might seem very much like rejecting personal responsibility, and I don't mean that. But I wish you could trust that all items you buy were ethical and sustainable, and I think that's only possible through laws. And like you talk about, reducing is more important, as we can't buy our way out of the climate crisis. Capitalism won't save the earth.

    • @BryonyClaire
      @BryonyClaire  2 роки тому +3

      I've grown out of some of my favs too, it sucks when that happens then trying to find other pieces you love as much/will get the most use out of. Finding things that are in bigger sizes is really hard too, especially second hand since most fast fashion stops at a smaller size. And yeah you're right on companies that try to pass themselves off as the ethical option, those links in my description will help if you're looking for some replacements

    Needing basic black shirts for work a few years ago was the last and final time I walked into an H&M. I hadn't been there for quite a while... and the marketing??! 🤢 Like, I threw up in my mouth a little reading about "close the cycle" and "collecting conscious points with each purchase" and watching the eager costumers. So green, so diverse, #wecare 🤸🏿‍♂️🤸‍♀️ I fled the store. This was one of the most intense moments in my everyday life where I deeply felt the bullshit of capitalism. But of course, it's everywhere now and so many people are happy to buy (into) it, not reducing their consumerism but their cognitive dissonance 🙃

    I've stopped caring about what company says. I'll buy what I need, find a used version if possible and take care of what I have and ask if anyone needs something I don't need and give it away. At the end of it, just buy high quality items and not buy so much and keep it to last. Even if a company was good to start, just a change of hands or being bought out will ruin things.

    • @BryonyClaire
      @BryonyClaire  2 роки тому

      You're doing all the right things! I really wish that companies got held accountable by laws which is why this case is pretty good in terms of at least getting it out there. If it does go through the courts it'll set precedent which is what we really want to happen (even though it's unlikely). It disheartens me seeing companies getting bought out by big conglomerates, too

    And just today my h&m orders came :,)
    At least they couldn’t fool me with their “conscious” labels (Conscious would be second hand)
    Edit: referring to “conscious would be second hand”because chain thrift stores where I live are social workplaces for those who have a hard time finding work and even tho some fast fashion brands are worse/better but at the end of the day it’s fast fashion so I can’t see it in any “conscious” way

    • @BryonyClaire
      @BryonyClaire  2 роки тому

      I was thinking of covering the Kardashians businesses but so many have already done a great job in that area (Cheyenne Lin has a great video, as does Kim Foster on For Harriett for example) so I don't know what else I could say on top of what they have. Megan Fox could be an interesting addition to my series on unpacking the icons, I'll add her to my mix in the polls!

    I was at work and had a pair of pants rip thru the butt area, so i needed to buy a new pair of pants. I felt terrible buying the cheap quality and cheap material pants, but it was a mild emergency. I tell ya, im gonna be thinking of the guilt every time i wear them. Luckily i am happy with how they fit so do constantly get worn. I only ever buy from op/thrift shops.
