- Raúl Moreno waited over 15 years to obtain a title for his property in the municipality of La Macarena. Dozens of homeowners like Moreno received land titles thanks to the work of Meta's Regional Land Office, a regional mechanism initially support by the USAID Land for Prosperity Activity to improve land administration capacity in Colombia.
In this video, produced by USAID Land for Prosperity Activity, we travel to La Macarena where a small team from Meta’s Regional Land Office is working with municipal leaders, surveying urban properties, and helping the mayor deliver land titles to residents who have waited decades for a registered land title. The strategy has already delivered more than 1,000 urban land titles in eight municipalities in rural Meta, including La Macarena.
In the wake of the 2016 Peace Accord, Colombian leaders have turned their attention to land formalization and property issues. The innovative concept was first developed by USAID in the department of Meta, and has found success in departments like Cauca, Sucre, and Bolívar. The strategy has planted seeds for regional-level leadership in land administration and created a conduit of support for secure land rights.
