My parents grew up in Luzon. It's one of the areas my husband and I are looking at to move to in a few years. Thank you for all the information in your videos!
I just visited Baguio and La Union. Very beautiful both! Great food, young Filipinas, great walking cities, great public market, night market is fun, very low cost.
I don't think of La Union as being in Northern Luzon. You want Northern Luzon? Try Aparri or Sta Ana. On second thoughts...no need to try those places...I'm selfish (not shellfish!), I want to keep paradise to myself!! Still love your videos.
I was talking to my girlfriend about Baguio because she has been there before and she said yeah the mountains can be dangerous to drive on especially when it’s wet many accidents which would make me nervous so I think it might be a nice place to visit but not live there also I heard it’s very expensive to live in Baguio.
I believe that. Even here in Dumaguete the roads get really slick during a rain. I can imagine a mountainous town gets very slippery. I’m with you. Not my kind of place. Thanks Marc
That is a pretty good budget for 2 people. I have not figured out my budget yet but next month I should be able to one I am in my apartment for a while. I finally got my wifi hooked up after some confusion and had to pay the first month in advance. I sent the money to my friend and she paid it on Sunday and first thing Monday morning there were here to install. I guess money talks lol
I did not have that issue with internet in Davao, but I had the issue of it taking a very long time. After a month I went to the pldt office to complain. The guy told me that it has to come from Manila. I said is the guy swimming here holding the cable in his teeth? The clerk didn't know what to say so I found myself in the back, meeting with the main manager of the facility. My internet was connected the next day.
In BGC I had to put a 5,000 php non-refundable deposit for the modem and show my ACR card and passport for Global internet. My expenses here are only about $1,500 a month plus visa fees and insurance.
Vegan lifestyle probably cheap food wise too. Plus if you eat at home most meals. I can't live on salad lol I like meat to much. They chose a good place it sounds like for them. I like ocean and cool weather like Oregon coast but that combination is not available there. . Good video
La Union is the Surfing Capital of the Northern Philippines. San Fernando City, La Union is its main Capital and also the Regional Center of Whole Ilocos Region "Region 1". Poro Point of San Fernando was a former US Military Air Base (US Wallace Station) and the known 5 star Thunderbird Resort and Casino which is dubbed as "Santorini of Asia" is located itself at the Poro Point. It was also the movie setting of the highest grossing Filipino film of 2011 "No Other Woman". San Fernando City is recently included as one of the safest cities in the Philippines according from the known International Blog site and also included as top 8 best beach towns for retirement in the Philippines. Since San Fernando has almost everything, it has malls, hospitals, supermarkets, local and international food cuisines etc. It's a very diverse city with coastal, lowland and high mountain ranges. While San Juan, La Union is the main Surfing Hub. La Union or known as "Elyu" already hosted 2 historical International surfing events. The first one was the first ever surfing event of the South East Asian Games 2019 and the recent was the World Surf League - International Pro 2023 last January 20-26. Both International events were snatched and won by a 2 natives from La Union. Roger Casugay is from San Fernando City, La Union, he won the SEA Games 2019- Surfing event (gold medalist) and called as the "Hero Surfer" when he helped an Indonesian surfer from drowning. He also received the first ever World Fair Play award (first ever Filipino Athlete to received the historic and prestigious award). Then, the recent World Surf League 2023, Jayr Esquivel from San Juan, La Union won the Long Board for Men's Category and more than 100 surfers worldwide were competed at that time. JayR Esquivel is already considered as one of the best surfers in the Philippines. With this, Department of Tourism Philippines and the World Surf League just recently solidified La Union as the "Premier Surfing Destination of the Philippines" and one of the best "Asia's Surfing Hub". La Union has a lot more to offer than surfing, it has waterfalls, rice terraces, mountain view decks, mountain resorts, hidden springs, sea of clouds, botanical garden, mini pyramid, chinese temple, stone house gallery, pebble beach, immuki island (crystal clear lagoons), lotus farm, river farm, eco parks, grape farm/ grape picking, museum, night market, Thunderbird (Santorini of Asia), Pugad Adventure (zipline, wall climbing, atv ride, australian rundown, 8 random pools, mini zoo, kayak, etc.) It has also historical churches and watch towers as old as 1500s and a lot more. It's a very lively and a diverse Province 🌄🏞️🌊🏄♂️🏄♀️🌅 Fun Fact: La Union was the first and the original Beach Capital of the Philippines during 60s/70s specially at the beach town of Bauang, La Union. A lot of known legendary Filipino celebrities back then were already stayed and celebrated in La Union. In just recent years, a lot of known Filipino celebrities or even known Filipino band vocalists during their prime years already migrated and retired in La Union.

@@PaulWorldZoom Awesome Paul, from now on, at least in my mind, he will be Big Head Bob aka BHB. If you ever took him to Manilla he could be the BHB in BGC. I really do think it is time for him to find a good Filipina wife :P
baguio city is actually the cheapest compared to other cities, fresh vegies, groceries and electricity.. the only downside is yeah it always rains and its cold!
My girlfriend told me that housing is very expensive in Baguio like three times the amount.. And she also said it could be dangerous driving on the mountain especially when it’s wet many accidents
For me the minimum I would need is 65,000 a month and that includes 10,000 a month for unforeseen circumstances. San Juan is really nice not as commercialised as Boracay just a pain to get to with the bus ride from Manila. You would need wheels there as it’s really spread out.
You can live in any city in the Philippines on 50,000 pesos a month. But on 50,000 a month after your fixed expenses (rent bills visa renewals etc) realistically you are only going to have 500 pesos a day and as a single person even if you eat at home you will spend at least half of that on food. Me personally in the smaller cities or towns like Dumaguete or La Union I would need 65,000 minimum. That’s Rent 15,000 (1 bedroom flat) Electric 3000 Water 500 Internet 1500 Visa renewal 2000 (on average) Insurance 3000 (that’s a cheap one) Unforeseen circumstances 10,000 pesos. You need a new pair of shoes a new Tyre for your bike medicine etc 30,000 a month (1000 a day) for food gas for your bike if you go out for a couple beers coffee whatever your thing is. If you got a 50,000 budget you can maybe trim a little off the rent but realistically you got 500 a day and coffee shops a couple beers isn’t something you can do daily. I’ve just spent 3 months in Quezon City with a monthly budget of 100,000 which was more than enough i would say 75,000 would be about right for me personally. I don’t drink much but I like nice coffees.
Oh wow! I thought I’d rained daily. It certainly rains daily in Dumaguete. I’m putting it in my calendar. Since I started 30 of the last 32 days has had rain. Only once all day. But is sucks
My family and I live in Central Luzon. We own property, transport, have a regular income, savings and no debt so money is not a concern and we don't need to work, although we do own a coffee shop and an adjacent general store. We live well because we worked our butts off overseas before choosing to retire early here in the Philippines. Our income exceeds our spending and we don't pay rent. We pay for our kids' education, employ the family in our business enterprises and we are able to travel - pre-pandemic we took 2/3 overseas trips per year. As we don't pay rent, our expenditure is fairly minimal, but we don't scrimp. Otherwise, what's the point of retiring if you are living a subsistence lifestyle?
@@PaulWorldZoom I just wish people who plan to retire in the Philippines took the time to realistically recognise what it entails.
