    The continuing advances in scooter design are what keep me from buying one. I like this design and features the best so far. I think the bigger tire size will become the standard. I ride motorcycles and bought a motor scooter with small tires and found it unsafe almost immediately. Great review as always. Setting the standard for e-scooter reviews!

    Really interesting scooter just needs bit better range and indicators added for its second iteration! Plus a brighter screen. Perhaps coming in other colours would be good also!

    I know a lot of people are going to harp on the price point of this scooter. Honestly, if you've also been shopping ebikes in the US, Taur's $1500 seems pretty reasonable.
    I do like the large wheels; Albuquerque, NM has too many pot holes and rough roads and that's the reason why I settled for an entry level ebike (at $1300) instead of an escooter. But I was a bit short sighted in my ebike purchase in that where I work has a lot of blowing sand. I can't take my bike to work and park it outside. Being able to bring a scooter inside would be much nicer. If I spent the big bucks on an ebike ($2800+) with a belt drive that wouldn't have been an issue but then I would also be more paranoid about theft because well... it's Albuquerque.
    The two weak points for on this scooter, for me, would be the range and top speed. Since the scooter was designed in London, I don't think we will ever see a faster scooter from them with England's overly harsh PEV rules. If they did go faster, I would like to see 28 mph ESG certified just like a class 3 ebike. For the range, I would need an extra five miles on ESG certified test to not have range anxiety especially since I'm over 200 lbs.

      Scooter is anyway illegal in the UK, no matter how fast, or slow... So, there´s hope for you... The creator even tells it in an interview, where he´s asked, why him, coming from the UK, built something that´s anyway illegal over there. He said, that he builds it for the US and the rest of Europe, as well as for the UK, cause he hopes, that the laws gonna change soon. A big bet...

    what's it like under strong braking? I always prefer to have one foot in front of the other for this reason.
    Must say, I do like that it's so innovative :) the design, regen and tire size make this a very interesting scooter :)
    Maybe a strap for easier carrying? I'm thinking the diameter of the stem might make it difficult to carry for those with smaller hands.
    Kevlar lines tires ...sounds smart....good IP rating coming from the UK ...finally :)
    Vertical parking ... love this.
    pièce de résistance - the light shining up your back...this is so smart :) :)

      Hi Tim!
      Good to see you.
      The slow mo braking shots of me in the video are me braking at full strength. Probably would have looked stronger at full speed. Given the brake configuration, it’s got plenty of rear bias for braking. I never felt like there was any chance of going over forward, as long as I used normal-ish body positioning for braking. -Paul

    The last requirements for every day commuter are: a) more power going uphill b) elastomers based suspension for potholes & corner controls c)built in turn indicators d) GPS or air tag like tracking (minimise theft like modern ebikes)
    What unique currently 1) larger wheel dia. 2) shorter wheel base, easier to store inside the car boot/ trunk 3) foot platform comfort riding position 4) lightup body 5) forward regen wheel (primary) + disc rear brake (emergency) 6) fast-ish charging helps commuter

    • @jamestimer3560
      @jamestimer3560 2 роки тому +1

      If I remember correctly, the guy behind Taur used to design EUCs with a company in the UK. The taur scooter was his way of combining a scooter and EUC into a neat little package.

    • @migvelv
      @migvelv 2 роки тому +2

      Far more dangerous, though

    • @anonymous98730
      @anonymous98730 2 роки тому

      @@migvelv If we look at any statistics of road incidents related to PEV, there'd be waay more scooter incidents than EUC ones. So, in terms of aggregated, society-level danger, scooters are more dangerous. This is due to much larger number of scooters and other factors, like riding drunk or not using protective gear. EUC culture discourages gearless riding, calls for using full-face helmets, knee and elbow protection etc. So, if you are a normal everyday EUC rider, there'd statistically be more protection on you, compared to what would an everyday normal scooter rider wear. Riding an EUC requires more training from you, so you'd also be more skilled (statistically). Speaking of the transport itself, scooters have [very] small wheels compared to EUCs, and suddenly hitting a hole or a bump with EUC is much safer because larger wheel has more tyre "beef" and higher gyroscopic effect which results in stability. In case of fall scooter can damage you much more seriously, especially if you're thrown in front through steering rack - EUC will normally just fly away (and kill someone else, lol, but hopefully not). Modern EUCs are getting safer and safer, and falling from one by overpowering it or due to controller or batter failure is a very rare scenario (haven't had a case during 7,000 km I'm using EUCs). I have 2 EUCs and one scooter now (had 5 scooters before) and feeling significantly safer on an EUC (wearing helmet in both cases and knee, elbow and wrist guards on EUC).

    • @klausbrinck2137
      @klausbrinck2137 2 роки тому

      The creator was on EUC-electronics in Britain, before starting Taur, and I bet, he chose designing scooter-micromobility instead of EUC-micromobility, cause he´s aware of the shortcomings like no other... In the interview, he says, euc is a niche-product, and I believe, none over 50 would dare riding an EUC on daily basis. I drive motorcycle, but would always use my scooter for short hops of 1-3km, cause more practical than motorbiking such short distances. Compared to motorbiking, everything looks boring, but scooters are f***** practical. An EUC would never be an alternative, cause I have to get off it at every traffic light, and couldn´t get off or on pavements (that´s too high of a skill). And wearing special protection is above and beyond bearable, as well as special training.

      They've done a good job with the firmware, so power spools up right in line with the amount of traction available. It would be more of an issue for dual motor. I wish I would have had the shot to put in the video, but you can still ride with one foot somewhat forward and one foot somewhat back, and get some of the front-back offset feel. For me, the more I stopped trying to ride it like a regular scooter the better it worked though. I want more time with it though. I was still learning a lot about what it can do around corners. -Paul

    Large stem and tires look good. Im not buying that foot stance though. Suspension would be nice. Not what Im looking for. I want a scooter that can pass dmv regulations as a motorcycle or scooter and that has a high top speed so good suspension and big tires and harass braking capability. Those damn drum brakes should be illegal. Fuck that riding illegal shit, I got groceries to do and dont want shit from cops. And electric motorcycles are fucking bullshit. If I had 100k to spend on a fucking bike I wouldnt need it for transportation I would fly my fucking jet. Scooters are realistic cheap non gas transport for all, the way it should be. Thanks for the review! I really like a lot of the innovation with this scooter. As an avid electric unicycle rider these days the side-by-side pedals are cool to see on a scooter. I still don't think anything beats the Fluidfreeride Mosquito or E-Twow GT for ultra portable commuting. There is a big difference between 25-28MPH (E-Twow GT) and 21MPH when you are in moving traffic. Faster scooters are just safer for experienced riders. My wife rides them most of the time and has over 3000 miles between the two. She hasn't had any problems other than a brake cable fraying that I had to replace. She also has the capability of going much faster and longer and still easily carry and stow them at work. The solid tires may suck on rainy days for grip but everything is horrible in the rain and you should be driving much slower with solid or pneumatic tires.

    I think it’s like the airwheel z3 or z series b/c of the side by side foot boards. Airwheel the only other make that I’ve seen do those boards. Unfortunately as they’ve made better scooters, they are now going to a deck style and they no longer do the side-by-side board.
    I’ve been looking for a scooter and researching a lot. I feel like I’m never going to find one. I last was looking at the Apollo city pro 2022 as well as the E move. I was pretty solid on the fluid mosquito but there are some things that I don’t like about it. I also looked at the G force S 10 but I don’t think I’m gonna be able to find parts if I need them.
    I wonder how the turning is on the taur. I like the specs so far. And it’s lower in weight than some of the other things I’ve looked at. The price is to be expected but it’s actually lower than some other ones. $495 more than a mosquito and you get a really good quality scooter.
    Hmm. I wish the weight capacity was a little bit more however it seems like it probably is a little bit higher than what they’re telling us, but they say that they only cover up to 220 pounds. I am under that limit but if I am carrying a backpack that is going to add some weight.

    Of course, this is huge, finally one without a nervous front wheel, and the best design (a design hard to beat, too)... I didn´t get why the motor is at the front, and the disc-brake at the back, and although that might minder (motor- and brake-) performance, it raises security (of falling over the bar when braking).

    • @ESG-ElectricScooterGuide
      @ESG-ElectricScooterGuide  2 роки тому +1

      It’s a special braking system that makes it very hard to brake hard and flip over!

  • @dronurergun
    @dronurergun 2 роки тому

    A refreshing new design and the adjustable regenerative braking power is great. But the stance is exactly the opposite of how I advise new starters... If I was designing a tube deck I would put one foot rest behind the rear wheel and the other between the wheels. This would also increase the stem angle.

    Nice innovative design. People used to buying cheap Made in China clones will no doubt reflexively complain about the price (as they *always* do). Not surprising, since people always seem to be ready to complain - even if something is free! I’ve even seen people complaining about the price of the NIU KQi3 Pro, which in my opinion is an absolute steal.
    One design I would like to see would be to put two electric unicycle sized wheels together in tandem, with the front EUC being non-motor driven and with a stem and handlebar bolted onto the axle. The hardware already exists, so it shouldn’t be that difficult designing such a vehicle.

      It's a Canadian/China fat bike like import. While i have not seen one in person, i have seen the ads etc... Items that concern me are the 48v hub motor, it might be the low end junk that doesn't last long, but not really sure. If i were to bet, i would say the standard bafang motor would be better. The rev cobra website has a motor listed in the battery specs. That doesn't inspire quality to me at first glance. next, those 4" fat tires are like $150 to replace, if one does any sort of pavement riding, expect a hefty tire replacement fund. I don't think this bigger fat bike styles are meant for pavement type stuff. I don't think its fair to compare this to the Taur, very different animal. One is for the street and the other is meant for the dirt and sand. Plus the Cobra is huge (getting pretty close to 7 feet long and 80 lbs). For the money the sport/hyper scooters are much better buys in my mind, if you ride pavement. (like the Applo phantoms or the Kaabo wolf's or mantis's.)
