Omega boost was one of my all time favorite games as a kid, and one that definitely sticks out in my mind. I loved the targeted destruction you could unleash onto enemies.
Omega Boost was a cool game. Very 90s but the cool 90s. I remember thinking it looked amazing graphically back then. Would love to see a HD remake of it at the least. Wonder if they will seeing as Gran Turismo isn't exactly the juggernaut it used to be.
Man, I super loved that introduction video back then. Even by today's standards it just looks amazong, all things considered! Especially the live action with its great costumes.
I can't believe I've never heard of this game until I originally watched this video. It's like an evolution of the sega type rail shooter (Panzer Dragoon, REZ) but with six degrees of freedom. Totally have to check this out.
Didn't these guys also make the Motor Toon Grand Prix series before any Gran Turismo game? That would prun Motor Toon more suitable for a Before and After I think, since Omega Boost was an in-betweeny deal. But that wouldn't have been as interesting for you, right?
[Coury] Right, this cool space shooter be released to little fanfare after the success of Gran Turismo was the big draw for me. I also found Omega Boost more interesting because it was a totally different style game from the driving games they're known for. Also I own Omega Boost and not Motor Toon. But maybe that'll show up in an eventual Before styled episode
There has been rumors that some former members of Team Andromeda (at least one) who worked on the Panzer Dragoon games worked on Omega Boost after that team was disbanded at Sega. Also, there are some parts of the game that run at 60fps but majority runs at 30fps. I personally almost puked when I first heard/saw that SCEA had changed the opening intro music from Feeder's Shade (Japanese version) to that turd by Loudmouth.
I just got this game randomly along with the original Resident Evil recently. Awesome game. & awesome video!! I had no clue the same guys made Gran Tursimo
Recently read about ( Project Nimbus? ) . How does it stack up spiritually to something like this that was created so long ago by a different team with different hardware constraints vs opportunities to sieve through today ? I ask because I think Omega Boost was a great effort esp. considering the hardware, what I imagine was a limited amount of time they could commit to the project and, for its time, it wasn't your typical "rail shooter" while having some decent sound effects. Listen to and feel those shots w/ your subwoofer dipping into the lower registers of hearing amps up an already energetic experience ( .... hm, no pun intended ) . Also agree with what limited FMV was superbly intermixed at some golden ratio to the period animation graphics.
Pretty certain that Omega Boost is actually just a solid 30fps, not 60fps. The rock-solid consistency in framerate (especially for the platform) coupled with the overdraw effects and particles make it seem smoother than it is.
+MightyHedgehog [Coury] Super interesting - I thought it had to be 60fps based on how it looked. I did some searching and it seems like a lot of other people were just as fooled as I was. Really remarkable.
@@mylifeingaming They blur the stars and add blurring effects to the ship to make it look more fluid when moving around. Its a neat trick that makes things seem more fluid than 30fps generally. I can confirm via emulator that it runs at 29.97fps internally.
+Ruko Michiharu [Coury] it does, but there's both on rails levels and free roaming levels throughout the game. Even most of the free roaming levels don't truly feel free roaming because there's no actual landmarks or anything for you to be able to tell where you are or where you're going. It gives the illusion of moving where you want, while not really. Kind of a hybrid.
It's not on rails or free roaming it's a new thing! You just always chase the enemy and face them yourself no matter where they go! It's a new idea, it's like a 3D version of a shoot em up. The bad guys are the focus and you just find them and orientate towards them.
+HellionSkelter [Try4ce] That's Sin & Punishment: Star Successor on the Wii! An AMAZING followup to the N64 Sin & Punishment, and both of us agree that it's one of the top two games for the Wii. Criminally overlooked.
+perkz505 [Try4ce] Yup, that's pretty much exactly it. We released these on Rerez previously, but we're now consolidating all of that content over to our channel. These episodes don't replace brand-new content... we're still releasing those once a week on Fridays. These re-releases are simply happening every Wednesday until we've moved them all over here.
+My Life in Gaming I'm actually thankful for it. I completely missed the videos on Rerez. At least to people like me, all of the rereleased videos are new! =)
My Life in Gaming If you've played Omega Boost then I think you would definitely like the Armored Core series, namely Armored Core V and Armored Core For Answer.

SolidSnake2948 Armored Core would definitely be a series you'd like.

Try playing it on an emulator in 4x or higher internal res! It looks pretty good to be honest
You guys deserve WAY more SUBS/VIEWS.
Another rail shooter die hard! Love this game and wish Polyphony would try their hand at some more genres. Great vid :)

I love omega boost, it's the best true 3D action shoot em up. I wish there were more Japanese style 3D shoot em ups like this.
I've known of the existence of Omega Boost thanks to Eiffel 65's song, "Playstation."

Polyphony made a game called Tourist Trophy too, its basically Gran Turismo with motorbikes so not a huge change in direction from their usual genre.
Futures is my favourite Jimmy eat world album.

One of my favourites psx games, so underrated, really waiting for Omega Boost 2 and Tourist Trophy 2
Hey nice shirt! I have the same one in dark blue! :-) What a record.
I have omega boost. love that game.

I think I'm gonna give this game a try. Thanks MLIG, love this channel.
This video made me download Gran Turismo for PSX and play it from scratch. Thanks
I never knew this game existed and I love games with live action FMV. 👀
Got this game a few years ago for about 2bucks. Think i'm gonna try it out later. Thanks!

Im hoping for Polyphony to make this one as an Easter Egg in one of their Gran Turismo games but lets get real, they won't spare their expense on it.
would definitely play this on my android
This game looks fun, so if I ever come across a copy cheap, i will have to emulate it on my PC as I don't have any Playstation hardware what so ever.
I wonder if Warframe took inspiration from this game for Archwing missions.
Awesome game, the intro song of the japanese version is a lot better.
Don't you think "Free roaming" and "On rails" contradict each other?

***** huh... That's strange...
Oh well, the game certainly does look fun!

What games are at 1:05 and 1:08 ? Thanks
Sins and punishment
after burner climax
Does anyone know what game is shown at 1:03-1:06?
+HellionSkelter [Try4ce] That's Sin & Punishment: Star Successor on the Wii! An AMAZING followup to the N64 Sin & Punishment, and both of us agree that it's one of the top two games for the Wii. Criminally overlooked.
+My Life in Gaming Ohh okay, I thought it looked similar. It's now on my list, thank you very much!
Why are these episodes being released like they are new? I have seen them before. Are you re-consolidating the channel or something?

"Polyphony", the "phony" is pronounced like it is "symphony".
[Coury] mispronouncing things in videos after I say them right in my everyday life seems to be a recurring theme for me.
LOL!!! Not the first time I've seen it happen to people! It looked like you stumbled over it for some reason. DOH!
does it matter???
