Disappointingly OK. The same way FO4 was with probably some modern gen QoL improvements and extra polish. I just have so so so little faith in modern Bethesda to make something genuinely new

just saw a dumb article saying how you will able to play on PS after all. The new PS cloud based handheld with effectively be a windows machine that could play Microsoft games from the gamepass or something, idk why sony are tying cloud based gaming again after all the failures by other companies but yeah apart from it not realling being a actual PlayStation you will be able to play PS games on a cloud based handheld which will need a internet connection to play anything. additionally it won't have Bluetooth and the only way to connect wireless is to buy one of sonys overpriced headsets or earphones
I could have sworn Microsoft said they'd still release Starfield on PlayStation since it was already announced for all consoles before the purchase, maybe that was just hearsay.

Declassified documents following the Bethesda purchase, indicated that PlayStation had already reached out and requested full exclusivity for the game and made an offer.

So you get the spaceship even easier than the power armor in F4, that makes me think, will it be as "fun" as using power armor in F4 or as "fun" as fighting dragons in Skyrim?

I think the worst thing about this game's marketing is that you can't go one step without being bombarded with the most tryhard reddit-tier quirky zinger tripe in human history. It's like Forspoken but in real life. These people just can't talk like normal humans. Every single thing they say, every single word that comes out of their mouths, it all has to be maximally optimized for having as much "sticky" buzzword and clever catchphrase usage as possible. Everything has to sound like it's coming from the mouth of that "today I am euphoric, because I am enlightened by my own intelligence" redditor.
I don't see it much different from FO3 tbh. Seems more like the dad humor you expect from emil...

It's all slathered in the same coat of "look at me, I talk just like Tony Stark and also Neil deGrasse Tyson" tryhard quirkiness. Also, who cares if it's present elsewhere lmao doesn't make it any less insufferable here.

One could argue that Bethesda's secrecy about Starfield in these two years leading up to release has built up a level of hype, so that even a game that is merely "decent" in terms of gameplay and worldbuilding will leave most players with a feeling of being subpar. And that can lead to a cascade of bad press, and eventually to a generally poor reception.
If this turns out to be the case, then I feel that it would have been better to show more of the game, and let that hype bubble deflate slowly rather than risking it popping with a loud bang. On the other hand, I kinda think that even if Starfield is bad it will have shields against criticism in the short run.

i think that's the point. it's what video game publishers have been doing the last twenty years. over hype a game. the masses fall for it. make bank. the people that won't gaslight themselves into liking it are drowned out. rinse and repeat for infinite money.

What makes you think the studio that is notorious for bugs won't have any when they are making the largest scale game they have ever made using a new version of their engine for the first time. Especially when the most recent games they have been involved in were developing fallout 76 and publishing Redfall.... Yes Bethesda published Redfall, the worst game of the year.

Bizarre that the character models in Starfield look worse than Skyrim with a few mods.
Mods being the keyword here. Bethesda games are not visually impressive, but I get why they ship looking the way they do. Coming from someone who makes mods. Skyrim can handle 8k+ quality mods and models but the average person can't run that on starfield, and you don't really need to have a model that high quality.

On the second; I disagree. Arena, Morrowind, and Fallout 3 were all visually impressive on release.
Regarding Starfield, my criticism is not graphical fidelity. Frankly it looks great and I still find Morrowind beautiful. It's about design choice and art style. Bethesda's character design, among other things (Skyrim sword paddles etc) since, and including, Oblivion has fallen off a cliff. Rough, generic potatoes, and so on. Though with Starfield it seems generic marshmallows would be more appropriate.
I mean, at this point I’d want to play Starfield just *because* of how bad it is.

I've actually been really enjoying starfield, there is just so much to it, it's a breath of fresh air for me. Since its Bethesda, people hate on the game no matter what, and that's sad, because its not bad at all.
@@jasperfox6821The more rational FO/ES fans hate Bethesda for more than justified reasons and they dislike this not because "boo hoo it's Bethesda" but because the same problems that they don't like exist in this game.
@PK-ts8iz I will say Bethesda games have had a dip in quality since morrowind, but I wouldn't say they're bad at all, well....maybe Fallout 76, Bethesda made morrowind and oblivion, two of my most favourite games of all time, I just can't hate them, and I enjoy their games.

Fallout 3 is generally the least talked about of the post-Morrowind Bethesda lineup, but it's definitely the one I most often see braindead people cite as their favorite Bethesda game, even more so than Skyrim, where even people who love Skyrim won't pretend it doesn't have major flaws. Meanwhile people who love Fallout 3 won't even entertain how cliche the entire story is and just say the Brotherhood is super badass or whatever.
But I think that's almost entirely a ton of people who played it during the age range of 12--16 or so and haven't touched it since, remembering it as being much better than it even remotely is. And you'll see a lot of whining like that in the comment sections of the various super critical Fallout 3 video essays on youtube, clearly comments made by people who love the game but don't actually seem to know/remember any hard facts about it or have any real opinions about it other than they enjoyed it. Compounding on that, New Vegas hit and basically erased Fallout 3 from existence for anyone with taste.
love to see new vegas shills cope, no buddy your beloved nostalgia trip of a game is NOT above the likes of fo3 its still a shit spin on the REAL fallouts 1 and 2. Obsidian is just as dogshit and lifeless of a studio hence their game the outer wilds was ALSO dogshit. Both horrible entries of the series with terrible gameplay, mechanics, immersion, leveling, and killed what fallout was SUPPOSED to be. We can certainly agree on skyrim being a piece of shit too though

People who bought the premium edition get early access on the 1rst. Some technically on August 31rst due to timezones.

I've really been enjoying this game so far, you kinda forget that this is a bathesda game at times, because its unlike anything they have made before. I never knew id have so much fun just exploring planets, mining materials, and building a base, and that's just very little of what can be done in this game. Its honestly been a breath of fresh air for me, to just enjoy playing a new release. This game has made me feel happy in a sea of depression....and that soundtrack is amazing.
Have you ever played No Man’s Sky or Astroneer? If not you should check them out. I think you’d dig it.
In other word, Star field is your first space game. I implore you to play more space game to compensate for the dissapointing first impression
