Thanks Steve,I was not sure on this, now I know , I need to remove at least one seat! I have a N O S fiberglass tunnel to install on my 76 spitfire, original is cardboard. But engin has oil leaks and clutch is non working! So I pulled both! Engine is getting repainted tomorrow,(has new oil pan gasket and waterpump)then trans is getting new slave, new clutch plate, master cylinder, and throwout bearing,as well as the needed parts for the overdrive. This car was given to me by a family member, who has since passed away from cancer. He loved it,and he knew I loved it.It is mostly original, which is why the repairs need to be done. The engine has been changed to webber system with electronic ign,but I still have the original stromberg set up. This car just make me smile while I am going down the road!! And being in a small South Carolina town, USA, I have not seen another spitfire on the road here in 15 yrs!!! It turns alot of heads! I can not wait to get it back on the road!
Great stuff, well done mate, keep chipping away at it. Spitfires are not the fastest cars in the world, but they are fun and as you rightfully say turn heads. They'll always have a little problem hear and there, but that British cars, just got to keep on top of them. Main thing is with a British car is that they can be fixed easily and put back on the road 👍
Awesome video Steve, I think I'm just going to leave my spitty at yours with a big bag of cash as I'd love to have you work on her as I know you'd bring it back superb 👍
Well done! Will have to remove the GT6 gearbox because of the bloody clips that has jumped again. My father used to drill a deeper groove so that it cannot go out anymore, or at least, less easy. Really not looking forward to it. Thanks for your responsiveness and keep up the work! Cheers from rainy Belgium!
Job well done Steve, satisfying upgrade of the interior, looks a million times better, hope the new tunnel keeps the noise more down and the heat out, in my cars even the heat comes in through the old tunnels...or am I just thinking that?....glad the radio console stands up right, a lot of people seem to get it in leaning to the right or the left, you did it again top! Greetz
Thanks for sharing these videos. I am needing to bleed the cultch system and wondering if the transmission tunnel needs to come off to access the slave cylinder bleed nipple; in a 76 spitfire the slave cylinder is very awkward to access from under the car.
Hi Steve. To use a well known catch phrase "every little helps " ! Well , if you told us which colour, l can't remember ! Royal Blue to match the 6 ? Take care.
I did think about doing it royal blue, as the mk3 looks really classy in that colour, however sorry to disappoint, it won't be royal blue. I know the colour I want, but you'll have to keep watching to find out 👍
Did the new gearbox tunnel come with sound proofing, I didn't notice any on the video... ? Nice work. It'd look nice in white, looking forward to seeing what colour you choose.
I'm afraid I didn't fit any sound proofing. In all honestly with a sports car I don't really see the point of it. My theory being, when you fit a plastic transmission tunnel, they are much thicker than the original floppy cardboard ones, so they kill the road sound better. Plus, with a sports car you want to hear the noise with the soft top day, so sound deeding just seems pointless to me 👍
Cheers Harry, but in all honesly you can't see the screws on the footrest and they we're still in good enough condition, so it's really not nessary to fit new just for the sake of it 👍
Good to see you getting another video up Steve. I noticed your seat hardware is quite new looking, you don't happen to have a line on replacement catches that hold tge seats down do you?
You can remove the transmission tunnel and it does make it easier, but why make a mounting out of a mole hill. If you jack up the car and take the filler plug off on the left hand side of the gearbox from underneath, get a long rubber tube and insert it into the filler hole, then just top up the fluid with the correct oil from an oil can until it pumps out of the filler hole. When it comes out of the filler hole you’ll know it’s full 👍
Great job Steve, those small changes make a huge difference to her appearance. One observation though, you lose a lot of detail from the camera due to the exposure against your white overalls. Maybe consider changing to a darker colour?
I agree with Andy, Steve. The overalls do trick the camera exposure when you enter the frame, all the dark areas lose all contrast. Maybe some artificial light from the side will help us see what is happening as you do it in your trademark manner.
Well done Steve. All these little jobs add up to having the car just as you like it.
Cheers mate, it's so true, its all the finishing touches 👍
Great work mate, love your Spitfire!!
Cheers Keiran, much appreciated 👍
The Spitfire is one of the best looking vintage British sports cars.
Thanks David, that's really nice of you to say so 👍

Great to see you back on here Steve. I didn't realise the Spitfire had two cubby holes, looking really neat now, good work 👏
Cheers mate, I'm starting to get things together and get back on with the project cars 👍
Awesome video Steve, I think I'm just going to leave my spitty at yours with a big bag of cash as I'd love to have you work on her as I know you'd bring it back superb 👍
Cheers mate, you know where I am if you ever do want work carrying out 👍

You've welcome mate, it's quite a satisfying job putting in a new transmission tunnel 👍

Cheers mate, it's getting there a bit at a time 👍

It's tight, you can just about do it, but it is easier just to take the transmission tunnel out 👍

Just like mine '70 Mk lll witch also is Signal red, was also original white from factory.
I would so wish mine was white. To many Spitfires are red.
I agree, too many red cars of all sports cars out there. I have a colour I want for mine in mind, but it's watch this space 👍
All good big D but u shoulda put new screws in the footrest .
Cheers Harry, but in all honesly you can't see the screws on the footrest and they we're still in good enough condition, so it's really not nessary to fit new just for the sake of it 👍
Utile , già fatto grazie
You’re welcome 👍
Good to see you getting another video up Steve.
I noticed your seat hardware is quite new looking, you don't happen to have a line on replacement catches that hold tge seats down do you?
Cheers James, as for the catches, I just striped them back, and refurbished them, painted and lacquered 👍
Steve, to check the transmission fluid, do I have to remove all that around the stick shift? (Left hand drive US model).
