New Tie Rod Set from 1AAuto.com 1aau.to/ia/1ASF...
The inner tie rod has a ball joint that can wear over time, causing a clunking noise, loose steering, and eventually, other problems with the wheel and suspension components. It’s a good idea to replace your inner tie rods as soon as you notice any of these symptoms. This video shows you how to replace the inner tie rods on your 2004-10 BMW X3.

One question, is this peace of rack that you kept with additional wrench going all the way through the rack sealings? Won't you scratch it and make those sealings go off due to that?

It’s to stop any damage happening to the internals of the rack as this part will want to move/rotate, you need to put some counterforce on it to stop that from happening whilst you undo the inner tie rod.

I just did this job on my X3 and you're correct that that piece of the rack does go into the housing and the marring will most certainly destroy the o-ring. Both the E83 Bentley manual and the BMW TIS workshop instructions just say to just push the rack as far into the housing as possible before undoing the nut in order to not damage the rack. I was able to achieve this using an inner tie rod tool from Harbor Freight.

There’s no way you could do this video in the UK without getting your oxyacetylene torch out!

I wonder what is the mechanism to prevent loosening the thread of the inner tie rod, connected to the steering gear. On older cars, there were small folded shims or spacer plates, securing the tie rod against rotation. Some other manufacturers recommend using Loctite. However, the E65 repair manual doesn't specify any Loctite, just the torque for the installation. Neither these parts seem to be self locking.
    What is the trick?
Is it OK to put together, tighten it to the specified torque, and done?

Mine are rusty like the titanic. I was looking to remove the whole piece from the rack and not touch the joint in the middle

The foot pounds you use in the videos, are they the same as helicopter foot pounds?
