VDoll is actually the nerfed version of the old Prism chip. Capcom didn't want to deal with another "Infinite damage" glitch, so they just made a Prism that only triggers on one attack.
Best way to use V-Doll is to pair it with a wide range attack. That way your opponent basically takes double the damage. There's a pretty cool Napalm Soul combo you can do in BN5 with V-Doll, Grass Seed, and a charged BlackBomb that can do huge damage.
That’s a lot of set up though… considering those 2 chips like V-Doll & Grass Seed are throwable type bombs so it’s a bit of a annoying cool down period and hope the opponent doesn’t go in the middle.
Also of note if you have a way to change panels after setting up the V doll such as through a seed or a double soul that sets panels, V Doll fully interacts with all panels, great for getting extra damage out of say... a Blastman SP chip in BN6 or Magnet Chaos in BN5. Also because it's very much *an object* it basically guarantees double or even triple damage from Elecman SP. This chip is very fun to optimize. Just imagine if the curse attack also inherited elemental properties from whatever you triggered it with
bn4 vdoll crashes the game if the junkman megachip is used to pick it up after it landed but enemy cut ins a time freeze attack to hit the vdoll (cant pick it up, so game freezes) bn6 vdoll elecman can cause a damage overflow if he hits the doll for 2048+ damage rolling back to 0 (which the secondary object bolt can do, if the vdoll has a lot of objects around, as all of them count as a single hit for vdoll)
I remember pairing this with a CustomSword by tossing it at the end of a previous turn, and then waiting out for Custom Sword during the proceeding turn. Funniest shit is when the opponent gets HIT by the Custom Sword AND I triggered VDoll, so they get a double dose of that damage. 😂 Same goes for other big damaging things like LifeSword PA and so on.
In MMBN5, IF you have access to ChaosLrd X chip, it will destroy all objects, including V-Doll you've thrown. So you won't get broken shenenigans like Redfruit 3 > V-Doll > Full Cust > ChaosLrd for unavoidable 2000 dmg
One thing missing, if the attack being dealt would deal double dmg to the opponent based on their soul/cross, does that also transfer over to the VDoll's damage?
No, the VDoll only reflects the damage it receives. If you put grass panels under it (it must be after throwing the VDoll, since it turns its own panel into a poison panel) then a fire chip should do 2x damage to the VDoll and transfer it to the enemy, but I haven't tested it myself.

Using FireSoul can turn the panel beneath Vdoll into grass and you can stack some great damage off of it with the right fire chips, especially if your opponent also gets caught on grass with it. Zetsu, a BN4,-specific youtuber, has some funny combo videos involving Vdoll on his channel.
An easy combo I just thought of was to pair it with Elecman, he'll hit the opponent and because V Doll is an obstacle, it'll electrocute the area around that too, then the Doll will go off and hit the opponent again, that's like 300 damage in 2 chips (I don't want to look up Elecman's damage)
For that to be the case you have to use a wide range attack, like LifeSword, so that you hit your opponent and the VDoll at the same time. That way, your opponent will take damage from the attack itself + damage from the VDoll.

TFC means Time Freeze Cancel, and it's a PVP thing where you can interrupt someones screen dimming chip with one of your own (if you have one.) If you do, your attack goes first (or they can interrupt you and keep the chain going. Only one chip is used though from each player so if the original player cuts in on a TFC they lose the first chip they tried to use)
It's a damage instance, so any barrier or antidamage will block it. It's also blockable by shields IIRC What you might be thinking of is AntiRecovery, which bypasses all defenses because it's an HP drain effect, not actual damage.

That prism bug glitch which was battle network 2 when you do the triple sonic boom varsword right? I can’t remember any other chips that triggers it.

A fan favorite trick in MMBN5 is to V-Doll > Grass Seed > Full Synch > MOLTANIC MAN(NapalmManSP) for 1000 damage.
