וכן חזרו ובאו ושבו, ושוב התחזקו וחזרו ובאו ושבו, וכן חזרו חלילה כמה ימים ושנים, עד שנלאו מלנסות יותר. ורק הגיבורים מהם, אשר מידת סבלנותם עמדה להם, וניצחו את השומרים ההם, ופתחו הפתח, זכו תכף לקבל פני המלך, שמינה כל אחד על משמרתו המתאימה לו.
וכמובן, שמאז ואילך, לא היו להם עוד עסקים עם השומרים הללו, שהסיתו והדיחו אותם ומיררו את חייהם כמה ימים ושנים, בהלוך ושוב על הפתח, כי זכו לעבוד ולשמש מול הדר אור פני המלך בהיכלו פנימה" ("הקדמה לתלמוד עשר הספירות").
מידת הסבלנות חשובה לנו כל כך כי היא מאפשרת לנו לעמוד מול כל ניסיונות ההסתה וההדחה של "השומרים החרוצים", ולא לעזוב את המטרה. הסבלנות אינה סתם עיקשות שלא דורשת הפעלת השכל אלא כוח בלבד. הסבלנות מעידה דווקא על הבנה עמוקה של הדבר שבו האדם נלחם. ככל שנעמיק להיוודע מי אנחנו, מה ייעודנו בעולם ומה דורש מאיתנו הכוח העליון, כך יהיה לנו יותר אורך רוח וכושר סיבולת להתאחד ולנצח.
