The thing I love about Gabiru's character is he is actually an extremely competent leader and fighter, it's just that his overblown ego he gets from his followers is constantly getting in his way.
The genius of the tone of this series is that he's reincarnated into this craptastic dog-eat-dog world ... as a slime monster yet... and proceeds to make everything he touches turn to fluffy goodness, even if he has to break it first. He's Slime Jesus pretty much.

It's not about being a noob, or anything of the like, its just his personality to deal with things as the come. Don't forget, he was almost 40 years old when he died. He wasn't some hikikomori or degenerate otaku, or an inexperienced/naive kid; in this sense him and Ainz are similar. Their only difference is that Rimuru knows about the awful sh*t that happened in history and refuses to make the same mistakes. All the wars and conquest just to prove one's power. The lives lost in those wars, the grief and sorrow, he knows and understands it, which is why he refuses to use force unless necessary. In Overlord, Ainz ceased being human and accepted it, whereas in TenSura, Rimuru ceased being human, but decided that he will retain his humanity. In this sense, I agree more with Rimuru, since his approach is much more likely to have a better outcome and yeild better results. I believe that loyalty and trust doesn't come from fear, but admiration. I do like both shows, though, in different ways. I think it's best not to compare since they are both vastly different and good at the same time.

They look up to ainz as the ultimate evil overlord and expect that from him. Meanwhile ainz has not been left untouched by the transformation either. With this context in mind, although they share some similarities, it’s inevitable that rimuru and especially ainz evolved the way they did.
Probably my favorite thing about this anime is how damn near all the worldbuilding is trying SO hard to be dark and serious, but then Rimuru comes along and makes it all wholesome just by being a really nice person. The way he just blobs in and casually improves the lives of everyone is just so friggin' delightful. XD
Can't believe you left out the excellent reversal of him saying something like "I'm going to screw everything that moves" and getting the Predator skill, only for it to be entirely different.
Shizu was kept alive by Ifrit. She's older than she looks, so when Rimuru consumed Ifrit, Shizu's body was finally able to catch up to its actual age. :'(
Considering that she got summoned away from the real world during the firebombing of Tokyo in the second World War at around the age of ten I'd estimate, that'd make her something past 70 years old, depending on when exactly this anime played.

And we very clearly see Shizue being summoned away from Japan with bombers flying overhead... or rather we first see the bombers before the scene shows Shizue and her mother IIRC. So unless her summoning pulled her back in time or Rimuru's summoning pushed him forward in time (or took decades longer than Shizue's) or time flows differently in the other world... I is something around 70 years for sure. The earliest moment when Shizue could have become a victim to American Bombers was the Doolittle Raid in 1942. 150 Years before Rimuru's death on Earth the Wright Brothers weren't even born yet.
In regards to episode 5 and thee trial, I love how this show is one of the few that actually sticks the landing with a villain self-destructing. The King allows the trial to go through (I think because technically the dwarf did break the law no matter the reason and it's established that the no-fighting rule is strictly enforced), but shuts down the jerk since he knows that he provoked the dwarves and rigged the trial against them.
then at the end the bad guy was not a terrible villain just someone that thought his own advancement at the cost of others was for the greater good and learned an important lesson and eventually grows as a person

I'm reading the light novel series and I cant wait to see how they animate it but I hope they dont skip over as much details as they did for the first season
The funny thing is that this series intodurced their scrawny and cuteish goblins just one or two weeks after Goblin Slayers came out with their... less wholesome depiction of Goblins. It was also around that time that SAO also got goblins and Overlord got an entire (bad CGI) goblin army. It was a real goblin month. ^^ I couldn't help but chuckle partly amused, partly sad when you said "the character destined to be with Slime-dono" on Shizue's reveal. Yeah she's that alright, just not the way most people thought. 21:20 Ifreet kept her "fresh and all". While it kind of ate away at her mind, it kept her body young. With the spirit extracted from her body by Rimuru, her body caught up to her real age, of something around her seventies (the moment she was Isekaied as a 10 year-ish child was the firebombing of Tokyo in the second world war, so 1944 or 45). 24:50 You missed Master Jiraiya from Naruto. :P Gobuta is a really cool character. He's funny and actually quite powerful. Due to his funny appearance and behaviour he's very easy to underestimate, but that lovable goofball is potentially the strongest goblin in the entire village (and by extension the entire world). He can't hold a candle to the higher monsters like the Ogres, but against a regular Human or most unevolved monsters he's still a true powerhouse.

In two episodes? :P). Gotta admit, a little disappointed that Rimuru roundhouse kicking Gobta didn't get a win; that part was funny as heck. Shion -> whelp, can't wait to see your thoughts on Season 2 when _that_ comes out. Also, I actually find myself kinda liking Gabiru, as ridiculous as that sometimes sounds; he's not actually a bad leader, properly leveraging his advantages and using decent tactics and strategy to fight battles; he's just ignorant. He doesn't know about the Orc Lord's trait, but when he does notice, he immediately switches strategy to a full on defense, prioritizing the safety of all his troops, even the goblins who can't handle this new level of combat, even if doing so puts his side at a disadvantage, and owns up for mistakes by trying a one-on-one potential sacrifice play in an effort to protect his men to keep them from throwing their lives away in a losing battle. He's just also an over-dramatic egoistic idiot at the same time. Which tends to annoy the crap out of me. Its an interesting dynamic.
The best thing about this was it came out around the same time as goblin slayer giving us two different perspectives on goblins and two opposite main characters to go back and forth between each week keeping both of them fresh and intriguing.

My favorite win is that when the ED is done it literally leads up to the OP of the next ep, with the main cast of characters on the grassy hill getting ready for the panning shot. It’s such a nice detail for both seasons doing this.
Kinda surprised you didn't give an individual win to the absolutely amazing moment where Rimuru shows Shizu the reconstruction of Tokyo. Because that kind of relationship building has basically never been utilized in anime before.
I just love how you can feel how much of a videogame this anime is. You can feel how much stronger the village gets just from being named. In a mmo you see a goblin village, and go in for XP, BUT if you see that ALL of them have names you think twice because you think "oh these are essential NPC's"
No one seemed to notice, but I love how all the monsters he name gained his own abilities and have specialised and improved in the those abilities, bringing them to a new level slime-dono never knew.

It still brings a tear to my eye when rimuru turns around after absorbing shizu, considering he couldn't show emotion as a slime so this is the first we see his emotions in full.

Based on the manga, web novel, and LN Shizu was definitely with them in Rimuru's village for a while. The anime doesn't make it real clear how long they spent together, which is unfortunate considering how important Rimuru and Shizu's relationship becomes to the rest of the story.

Yeah, this anime has a pattern of being light and funny and then suddenly hitting you with dark events, which kinda makes me worried considering the last like three or four episodes are light and funny. It's why I'm worried about how the next season's gonna start.

The true greatness in this is how despite being reincarnated into a useless monster by RPG standards, he manages to get two major cheats by having a secondary personality that can tell him anything and his equality naming with Veldora makes him powerful on his own. Plus eating anything grants him its powers. Hence why Rimuru gets so strong. His compassion and reasoning brings together so many different species under his rule. His modern ideas and concepts are bright into existence by the dwarfs. All of this makes him beloved and his rules ensure fairness to all. Hell in a year, he's created a city similar to Edo period Japan and medieval Europe. You cant doubt that his reincarnation not only gave him a better life with friends and purpose, but improved the world he came tok

10:37 is such a great scene. It uses the hand drawn art style to make you think that it is childish and, because the adventurers and their attacks are drawn the same way, you also see them as childish. But Rimuru is drawn with his imposing wolf form, which portrays him m as being much more mature and above them.

Gobuta is a really cool character. He's funny and actually quite powerful. Due to his funny appearance and behaviour he's very easy to underestimate, but that lovable goofball is potentially the strongest goblin in the entire village (and by extension the entire world). He can't hold a candle to the higher monsters like the Ogres, but against a regular Human or most unevolved monsters he's still a true powerhouse.

Also, I actually find myself kinda liking Gabiru, as ridiculous as that sometimes sounds; he's not actually a bad leader, properly leveraging his advantages and using decent tactics and strategy to fight battles; he's just ignorant. He doesn't know about the Orc Lord's trait, but when he does notice, he immediately switches strategy to a full on defense, prioritizing the safety of all his troops, even the goblins who can't handle this new level of combat, even if doing so puts his side at a disadvantage, and owns up for mistakes by trying a one-on-one potential sacrifice play in an effort to protect his men to keep them from throwing their lives away in a losing battle. He's just also an over-dramatic egoistic idiot at the same time. Which tends to annoy the crap out of me. Its an interesting dynamic.

The best thing about this was it came out around the same time as goblin slayer giving us two different perspectives on goblins and two opposite main characters to go back and forth between each week keeping both of them fresh and intriguing.

My favorite win is that when the ED is done it literally leads up to the OP of the next ep, with the main cast of characters on the grassy hill getting ready for the panning shot. It’s such a nice detail for both seasons doing this.
Kinda surprised you didn't give an individual win to the absolutely amazing moment where Rimuru shows Shizu the reconstruction of Tokyo. Because that kind of relationship building has basically never been utilized in anime before.

I just love how you can feel how much of a videogame this anime is. You can feel how much stronger the village gets just from being named. In a mmo you see a goblin village, and go in for XP, BUT if you see that ALL of them have names you think twice because you think "oh these are essential NPC's"

Nope, a week would be the right time frame according to the manga and WN, since it took about 5 days to travel by foot from Tempest to Blumund (without getting lost and I bet they got lost 😂😂😂).

Based on the manga, web novel, and LN Shizu was definitely with them in Rimuru's village for a while. The anime doesn't make it real clear how long they spent together, which is unfortunate considering how important Rimuru and Shizu's relationship becomes to the rest of the story.

I also disliked the fact that they didn't show the delegates from Yuurazania, Rimuru's second visit to Dwargon, and diplomacy talks with Blumund, but made a random weird spoiler episode with Diablo?.. Like, what?... I really do hope s2 comes outmuch better...

Yeah, this anime has a pattern of being light and funny and then suddenly hitting you with dark events, which kinda makes me worried considering the last like three or four episodes are light and funny. It's why I'm worried about how the next season's gonna start.

The true greatness in this is how despite being reincarnated into a useless monster by RPG standards, he manages to get two major cheats by having a secondary personality that can tell him anything and his equality naming with Veldora makes him powerful on his own. Plus eating anything grants him its powers. Hence why Rimuru gets so strong. His compassion and reasoning brings together so many different species under his rule. His modern ideas and concepts are bright into existence by the dwarfs. All of this makes him beloved and his rules ensure fairness to all. Hell in a year, he's created a city similar to Edo period Japan and medieval Europe. You cant doubt that his reincarnation not only gave him a better life with friends and purpose, but improved the world he came tok

It uses the hand drawn art style to make you think that it is childish and, because the adventurers and their attacks are drawn the same way, you also see them as childish. But Rimuru is drawn with his imposing wolf form, which portrays him m as being much more mature and above them.
